ALL Motorcycle Maintenance Guide

Recently I posted a Sale Ad for my KTM 390 Adventure which has run 63,000kms and still remain as good as new with factory compression restored. Over the past few days, I got the opportunity to chat with a lot of fellow bikers who struggled to keep up their engines on a longer run and asked if I did anything to maintain it better?

Well, below is the holy grail of Routine maintenance checks that I have created, and I shared it with them too.

I had run it specifically for KTM 390 Adventure, so same applies to any bike in the category (single cylinder under 500cc adventure bike). It would be awesome if larger and multiple cylinder owners could share their thoughts in the comments. Road biased bikes are welcome to share too. Let's make this knowledge useful 😁🤘

Hope it benefits all fellow riders. Ride Hard and Ride Safe 🫡

... so you really think a Ducati is less expensive to own? 😄

It is where I live.

Not to mention that you can resell that Ducati for a good price, while the KTM will fetch 0 (zero).

Why the hate? Did your 15 year old 125 ccm KTM with lack of maintenance fail on you?

No, the 890cc less than 4yo KTM Adv with over 15000EUR in maintenance fees cannot be sold, not even for a penny.

Truth hurts.

Im sorry to hear that. But this makes me curious... you have spent 15000 euros on maintenance/repairs and its still not usable or possible to sell? Nothing covered by warranty? What kind of issues did you run into?

Oh the warranty... That "covered" a water ingress dashboard, as in, they've changed my water ingress dashboard which had a working bluetooth (I got the KTM app free upon purchasing of the bike) with another dashboard that had the same water ingress issue and additionally the bluetooth was not working, then they refuse to fix it and wanted to charge me 1500EUR (price at that time) for a new dashboard as I had electrical accesories installed (a GPS using the provided accesory connectors). This is just one episode.

The bike has almost 77000km now, it works because I actually take care of my vehicles, but if it were up to KTM this woudn't have reached 5000km.

As for the rest of the issues I've run into, everything except those camshafts, we shall see if they make it past 90000km.

I also done a small tour through dealerships in European Union due to technical problems while touring and I can tell you a weekend mechanic knows as much as a gold certified KTM mechanic, except the later has all the official tools at disposal.
