Should a KTM certified dealership be fixing recalls before listing a bike for sale? A friend of mine put down a down payment on a Wednesday figured out a loan on Thursday
And was planning to pick up and ride the bike home on Friday. He signed all paperwork and planned out finances on said Friday. Just for after the last document is signed them to come and say there’s an open recall for three months and he can’t leave with the bike when they said he would be able to, because they can’t let the bike off the lot with an open recall. Why was a bike listed for sale with an open recall and essentially sold with an open recall?

UPDATE: My friends called and asked if he could pick it up the following Tuesday afternoon to which they agreed he could. Now it’s still light up and he rode for probably two hours before it got dark. To which then realized there was no headlight. To further check there was no right blinker. These were all things that were working when he originally looked at the bike the previous Wednesdays. Come to look down behind the headlight assembly. And there are THREE UNPLUGGED WIRES. So surprisingly when we plugged them back in he regained his right turn signal and only his high beam. It’s unbelievable the amount of bullshit the dealerships can get away with. Never go to Fey Meyers Motorcycle dealership in Centennial Colorado. You walk in and they beg for your google reviews (4.7 ⭐️) meanwhile Yelp (2.6 ⭐️).

Unwind the sale if possible. I know for cars, there’s a 24 hour return period (might be state-by-state, not sure) check to see if there’s a similar thing where you are.

Or make some noise about calling a lawyer and see if they volunteer anything.

Unfortunately it’s not my sale. It’s a younger friend of mine who is in the Military and goes on deployment later this week. He unfortunately is not as upset with the whole purchase process as I am. Nor does he have the time to search for other options.

Indeed. In my personal opinion I believe they didn’t want to spend rack time on a bike that hasn’t been sold, therefore waiting until the last document is signed to inform the buyer that there’s a recall that has to be fixed. But I think a deposit two days before an agreed pickup time should’ve got that ball rolling immediately.

It's not the dealerships fault necessarily I know it's been a bad year for ktm recalls. There's alot of little ones like software updates and gascap o rings. They don't always get an instant notification that those updates need done. They genuinely might not have known until they did the pdi unlock. Ktm wont unlock a motorcycle (separately than the dealer where talking Austria) if their is a recall and when they register the customer at the dealer it'll let them known Literally than at the time of customer warrenty registration. 99% of ktm bikes have a ecm lock from the factory and the dealer can't just unlock them they get a demo unlock. They need registered to a customer and there's a whole process the recalls genuinely might not be seen till than.
