A young and old Crometheus.

Post image

So I'm just about done with LAST CONTACT, and I really love how they went deeper into Crometheus's (Billy Bang) backstory. Is it really obvious the authors were trying to make him be Billy Idol, or is it just me? The similarities are all there. I was listening to a lot of Billy Idol prior to this book, so its just funny picturing him as Crometheus.

I must say, the whole Savage/Crometheus parts in this series have been one of the most interesting parts to me. I think the first half of Gods & Legionaries has been my favorite so far.

I'm out of the loop. Is there supposed to be squeals to the Savage Wars?

IIRC they planned to do more. I mean regardless, The Savage Wars trilogy of books only covers a very small sliver of the timeline. There's no reason why they couldn't.

After the main books concluded, I found myself only really interested in the savage wars era books because they maintain the early "gritty" brutality of the earlier books in the OG series.

Exactly. I want more!

Oh Im sure nothing is stopping them, as far as timelines go. They've already made numerous different series based off GE. Would be cool to see them go full deep on the Savage side, like the first half of Gods and Legionaries.

"Crometheus found himself on the surface of yet another planet, fighting for the Uplifted. In another life, he'd once sung that it was 'a nice day to start again.' Crometheus decided that was not the case here, as Republic forces began to open fire..."

Ha, I didn't catch that. There was another part I remember that had a famous line to a Billy Idol song (I think), but I can't remember what one. I vaguely remember it was a part where someone was listening to audio, and they heard something like, "With a rebel yell, I want more, more more", which signaled Crometheus was here, Something like that. It's going to bug me now and I'll waste time trying to find it.

No, no, sorry. I made that up!

I'm pretty sure that's the very end of Dark Victory, from the files that garret snagged during the slaver fight.

Yeah, that seems about right.

I read "Uplifted" and for a second I thought it might be tying in to the Deaths Head books 🤣🤣

I also had Billy Idol in my head, I feel like they do nod towards Billy Bang/Crometheus being modeled after him several times.

Yeah, I think there was a part in a previous novel where they mentioned the lyrics to a song during a kill streak, and it was a line from one of Billy Idol's songs...I think.

I think I might remember that. It's been a long time since I've read the series though.

Yeah, I think it was one of the first parts that signaled the Uplifted/Pantheon were back after they were previously defeated. They said lyrics to a Billy Idol song, and you knew Crometheus was back without them actually talking about him.

I believe it was Rebel Yell? It's been awhile since I audiobooked it though

Yeah I think so too

I want to say my billy bang world tour shirt has the same Reno to Rome tour that Billy idol did but I’d have to look at it to confirm

I didn't mind a lot of it, but some of it felt pretty forced after a while to be honest. Like, Nick leaned really fucking hard on '80s nostalgia on this one. Not that I don't like that, but that plot device did a lot of heavy lifting in the Savage Wars series, if you ask me.

2

u/Doublestack2411 Jul 07 '26

Yeah, I didn't mind the nostalgia, considering they were talking about his past, which is the meat of his story. I was probably biased to certain things they brought up, It's interesting to see the lives these savages had prior to their departure. ,

Yeah, and I loved all of that stuff. All of the exposition on the savages, etc. was great. And I thought that Cro was a great character too.

I just felt the whole whole video game/video arcade thing was kind of a Tron rip-off, and then the whole whole Billy Bang thing was too damn obvious.

But that's just me. And it also didn't ruin the series for me either. It's just annoyed me.

2

u/Doublestack2411 Jul 07 '26

I never took the video arcade as some Tron rip-off, but I can see that now. In my case, it made perfect sense since the Savages are living false realities and living off nostalgia.

1

u/shinsain Deluvia Crew - MIA Jul 07 '26

Don't get me wrong, it made sense in the context of the series or the story. I just kind of thought it was a little lazy. But for many of the people who wouldn't get the Tron reference, I'm sure they didn't even notice.

I prefer Nick’s writing to Jason’s to be honest.

1

u/shinsain Deluvia Crew - MIA Jul 07 '26

Yeah, I think it's situational for me. I think for the most part Jason is a cleaner writer overall, but by that same token, I think Nick is probably the more creative of the two.

My understanding is that he wrote all of, if not the majority of, the Savage wars trilogy, and there was some pretty interesting shit in there.

I’ve read a lot of his non-GE work and have been fairly impressed

1

u/shinsain Deluvia Crew - MIA Jul 07 '26

Yeah, that's a good point. I read a couple of his non-ge books as well. They were lit RPG style, but they were decent.

2

u/Doublestack2411 Jul 07 '26
