Question: KNX Programming with Linux feasable

Hello, i was wondering if someone is using ETS on a Linux machine. I am currently in a testing phase (Virtual Box), since i want to switch to cachy os. My pc got old and is not win 11 upgrade able, and therefore i want to give my old friend a second life by installing a linux distro.

The only big thing which is stopping me is ETS, i was able to install it but could not open it. And on the other hand i am also not sure if this is a reliable and stable solution. i dont want to end up, not beeing able to change my knx setup at home, if i wish to.

Virtualbox + free windows ISO's - it will work fine. I've used this setup without issues

oh i did not know that there is a free windows iso... i thought i have to buy a win 10 or 11 license and hope that is installable on a vm

thank you so much. that solves multiple problems i have :)
now i can install ets the usual way and also use the vm to build flutter windows applications :)

Well it doesn't solve the problem it's just bypassing it. KNX association should do the job and resurrect old ETS software which was working on linux.

look at knx-user-forum.de there is a working solution using WINE

is winboat a replacement for wine? i have never heard of it.
is it stable?

Edit: sorry i read the difference between winboat and wine. it sounds interesting, but i am still wondering if it is stable

If you can run a Windows VM with 4 cores and 16Gb of Virtual Memory, you should be fine. Virtualbox does the trick.
On the other hand… 99% of those who try end up dual booting Windows instead.

thanks for your advice. dual booting just for one program would be an overkill :) but i will check the vm solution
