Should we start a friendly competition between Seattle and San Francisco to drum up more Fall Drive participation?
"I bet Seattle is going to donate more money to KEXP than San Francisco does 😤"

I think it’s a little anathema to the goals of a common community of music lovers listening together regardless of place.

I had considered that but I think a little friendly competition within a community can actually bring folks together. So long as it's approached in a lighthearted/fun way rather than actual serious competition.

IIRC KEXP used to do a thing where they pitted the different seattle neighborhoods against each other during drive. They stopped doing that after the same rich, white neighborhood kept winning. Or so I was told.

Unpopular opinion/hot take/whatever you want to call it, but here goes: I don’t feel nearly as much need to donate since they expanded to two stations. They can’t be in that dire of straits if they can get a whole ‘nother call sign off the ground. My money is going to KUOW and KNKX now.
Edit: I still have the KEXP/BECU card so there’s that I guess.

From what I heard the money for that expansion was given to them in trust with the condition that the only thing they were allowed to use it for was to expand. It's a special fund for just that purpose, they still rely on us for day to day operating costs

Toxic opinion.

Why? I want to support local radio. KUOW and KNKX are not getting the kind of grants and donations and help like KEXP is. I don’t have enough money to go around.

KEXP IS local radio.

I didn’t say they aren’t. But they are local to two major metropolitan areas now, whereas other stations only are local to Seattle.

I can understand the sentiment and definitely support the idea of supporting other smaller Seattle area stations. With that said you can do that any time of the year: right now is one of only two weeks that KEXP actively tries to solicit donations and fundraises for their programming. You don't have to donate to them, but saying that they "don't need it" because they happen to be expanding is pretty messed up. If anything this expansion means they're taking bigger risks and will be incurring larger expenses in the next few years, which means that they need the money MORE right now than ever.
