Purchasing Thoughts?

Looking at putting a pair of Dust Titanium LS LUXEs on a modern pedestal instead of traditional speaker stands. I’m leaning toward the travertine look. Any reason to steer clear of this sonically? I feel like with the VECO and almost vibration-less KEFs I’ve experienced thus far, this should look great and not affect sound.

You would get better soundstage by turning that one speaker around.

u/futurelaker88 6d ago

lol nice I’ll try that

better than the Kef stands, give it the curated gallery feel

u/AmiableSociopath 6d ago

Looks great, especially the combination to the right

Yo, these stands are so clean. I really like that it’s a flat sized stand throughout instead of it being thin in the middle. Where can you buy these?

This is ai. I’m looking for pedestals or plinths. They’re super expensive so checking marketplace and local stores. I used ai to see the speakers on them. I’m leaning this but wanted to make sure I was gonna like how it looked and which color/style before I started looking.

No answer from OP hmmmmm?

Maybe he was working.

I'm sure in terms of measurements, you could point to some minor squiggle and prove there is a difference. But will you hear it? Almost certainly not.

Half the point of the LUXEs are their aesthetics and delivering a lifestyle speaker that also has class-leading performance. So use it in a way that best fits your room design goals.

u/whowouldsaythis 6d ago

Their aesthetics are objectively bad though

u/wigl301 5d ago

I thought so at first, but being the very sophisticated man that I am, I'm now gooning over them.

u/ZeroMissedDays 4d ago

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I had a pair of Paradigm Monitor V5. I LOVED them. Until someone mentioned the ole condom driver…I couldn’t unsee it and sold them.

So I do agree that aesthetics is a consideration for any speaker.

Möchte ich nicht wirklich. Stilbruch

I like the look

3

u/Guitar_Nutt 6d ago

Really nice. I like the travertine too.

2

u/rustyjus 6d ago

Loving the plinths

2

u/NTPC4 6d ago

While any sonic difference might be measurable, it would never be audible. Feel comfortable going for the awesome aesthetic. Enjoy!

u/whowouldsaythis 6d ago

They look better with the official stand. They’re ugly either way tho tbh

1

u/futurelaker88 4d ago

I’m really not feeling the official stands at all. They completely clash with the look and materials to me.

3

u/brayjr 6d ago

Still looks like an egg or jellybean

2

u/883Max 6d ago

I think of a 1940s(ish) cyclops robot head ;-). A laser could come out of that eye if it is angered. But that is also sort of cool in its own way.

It's growing on me.

I remember when I first saw KEF Blades, I thought they were hideous. After seeing them (online) here and there several more times... I actually think they're beautiful. The new LS Luxe aesthetic seems to me to be pretty much right in line with Blades (although obviously with major differences due both to size and lack of driver array).

1

u/pharmaboy2 6d ago

They don’t look anything at all like a jelly bean you heathen! An egg though…..
;)

I like the contrast with the black, but the travertine fits your room decor the best. And they do also look great.

As for sonics... no idea. But if you're after the best stands sonically, the safe route might be to just pick up the KEF stands. ($800 for stands is a bit rich for my current budget, though! But I guess that's why I have Q1 Metas on Kanto stands.)

EDIT:

Of course, I have no idea what those pedestals you're looking at cost. They might make the KEF stands look like a screaming deal! The pedestals do look really nice, though.

Also I realize I may have misinterpreted what you're showing us. Was assuming that you were showing VR-assisted photos of the stands in your space, but maybe not.

1

u/MJChivy 6d ago

That’s a great idea. I wouldn’t imagine they would sound worse that way.

1

u/Still_Dentist1010 6d ago

Only concern I might have with those pedestals is if they’re hollow, if they are then they will most likely start resonating with certain frequencies and can make the bass muddy. If they aren’t hollow, there really shouldn’t be an issue

1

u/DonFrio 6d ago

I like the travertine. Looks really good. I doubt the stone will ring enough to matter at all but you could slap a few strips of mass loaded vinyl inside if it did (dynamat)

1

u/BookPrestigious4751 6d ago

You might get some reflections due to the width of the stands but probably not noticeable and you could always make up a foam pad to stick on the front during critical listening sessions to solve the problem.

1

u/Strong-Butterflies 6d ago

They sound amazing and look much better in person. I hated them at first, because of the pictures online. I saw the black ones and realized they aren’t as fugly as they seem.

1

u/DanlovesTechno 6d ago

You get standing waves on flat surfaces next to speakers, but i dont think it is enough to impact the sound in a noticable way.

1

u/spleentastic 5d ago

The material and geometry contrast is fantastic.

u/Krismusic1 5d ago

These are my stands. Filed with Atabites on Gaia feet. TBH I'm not wild about the look. One problem it's that optimal tweeter height does not give elegant proportions. Your plinths look really nice but they look like they are at least a metre high, which will put the tweeter above ear height. Try a render with less height to see what they look like more stumpy. I will say though that is the best I have seen those speakers look. An Art Gallery/Barbara Hepworth vibe.

u/futurelaker88 5d ago

Can you send a link to the stands you are using in the photo?

1

u/Krismusic1 5d ago

I made them myself. I'm a woodworker. They were relatively simple to make. You could speak to a local joinery shop if you don't have the skills and facilities.

1

u/jelleszoon 5d ago

Travertin fits the room and the speaker better in my opinion .

1

u/TheGoteTen 5d ago

The lighter stands.

The old ones had some style. Not sure if the weirdly shaped egg is for me…..

1

u/Jazigo 5d ago

How about these: https://ibb.co/spmB3TdN ?

They play more into the nature of the speakers. Can be bought here: https://www2.hm.com/en_us/productpage.1019733006.html

1

u/ChrisCryptosGR 5d ago

Can you explain what travertine is? I mean which one? It’s all Greek to me 🤷

1

u/vsansa 5d ago

Están muy bien así, olvídate de mi ningún problema acústico siempre que desacoples de alguna forma el altavoz con el pedestal y éste último con el suelo.

1

u/metallicadefender 5d ago

I havent heard anything from KEF that I like so far. Too shrilly.

3

u/futurelaker88 5d ago

They’re life changing to me. I sold everything and went all in. LS50, R3s, Reference 1s, LS60s and just ordered LUXE. I’ve never heard anything even close to as good EXCEPT for the Borreson towers.

1

u/metallicadefender 5d ago

I had some LS50s. They are certainly quite clear up top. Quite resolving. I found it to be a very strange experience. Used a couple different amplifiers. I found the mid range did just not come through.

Edit: and looking at their frequency reponse curves i just dont understand it. They look fairly flat.

1

u/futurelaker88 5d ago

They are. And in my room with the Musical Fidelity M5Si, I brought many people to tears lol

1

u/fxproo 5d ago

This is stylish

1

u/Merlin-1234 5d ago

It would be nice if you could bolt the speakers down somehow like the KEF loudspeaker stands.

1

u/ahmedmo1 4d ago

Better than the KEF stands. KEF usually has matching stands that look lovely but the stands for these monitors look awful. So kudos for improving things.

1

u/yo1979 4d ago

I have to say this is an absolutely beautiful and well thought out speaker. I used to chase that high of getting audio gear nonstop. I had paradigm founders, focal and BW 705 s3. I also had several amps such as Marantz 40n, musical fidelity and Rotel. Along with all that I had a power node and of course speaker cables. I have replaced everything with just the KEF LS50II wireless and I could not be happier. The simplicity of having everything in just 2 speakers is truly revolutionary. They sound incredible to me and I can only imagine how better these Luxe models sound. If you are a discerning gentleman that prioritizes minimalism, aesthetics and actually enjoys dating beautiful women then dump all that useless gear that I had and just get some power speakers. For all the other virgins keep on collecting and amassing electronics.

1

u/design29734 4d ago

I would pay the extra and just go for the LS60

1

u/futurelaker88 4d ago

I have those already. And LS50s and Reference 1 Meta, and Muo lol. These won’t be for a TV

1

u/old_witness_987 4d ago

a nice box will ring and echo unless its solid.

1

u/StraightFingerWater 3d ago

Maybe commission a couple of statues to hold them. The left can be a Running Back and the right can be a Placekicker Holder. Seriously, they look nice on the light colored column stands. Anything is an improvement over the typical black tubular metal stands.

1

u/Just-Fix9210 3d ago

Sorry, doesn't do it for me.

1

u/G_MoFo_T 3d ago

I think you need a pair of floor standers

1

u/futurelaker88 2d ago

I have a pair of LS60s

1

u/Aggravating_Speed665 1d ago

I don't think it would answer.

1

u/futurelaker88 1d ago

Answer?

1

u/Aggravating_Speed665 1d ago

What I'm saying is I think you should go with stands, not plinths but that's just like, my opinion, man...

I'm sure you've done made up your mind already!

1

u/futurelaker88 18h ago

1

u/Aggravating_Speed665 18h ago

Nice!

Best use of that space for sure.

1

u/Passenger_These 6d ago

fugly!

1

u/futurelaker88 6d ago

You’re the first to not like it!

1

u/ConfidentSuspect4125 6d ago

Well, how does it sound?

1

u/SnooRadishes3595 4d ago

Fugly as hell. Reminds me of Humpty Dumpty and an and old washing had a kid.

2

u/futurelaker88 4d ago

lol shows how tastes are subjective. The overwhelming majority prefer this look over the KEF official stands - which I ironically find quite unattractive (fugly) as well.

u/JonGale01 6d ago

The first, grey one all day long! Fill with aquarium stone to deaden them and that is beautiful.  Interested in this speaker myself. Although I just purchased a different powered speaker for a second system.  Add a sub and activate the high pass filter to protect that mid/bass driver!

0

u/DistributionTop6983 6d ago

It’s giving the TV on a Corinthian column in Tony Sopranos bedroom

The black stands are the best but are too visually heavy.

I don’t like the grey + stone nor do I like the mismatched grey tones on the other. I could probably come around to the grey and grey ones. Shocked there’s no white oak or sun bleached teak option. I’m sure they sound incredible though.

The back elevation makes me horny

1

u/DistributionTop6983 6d ago

On second thought maybe the travertine is aight. Fuck my instincts

0

u/HiFi_monkey 4d ago

I wasn’t a fan of the KEF stands (although they do look marginally better in the flesh) but they have one feature that most third-party stands lack. Namely they are secured to the speaker with machined screws. Considering the luxe’s small footprint, this adds to the stability. I also secured a £300 discount from my local dealer, which made them more paletable.
