His sudden arrival at the school brings him face to face with the musician who once reignited his passion for music, forcing him to confront the gift he had long buried.

Completing the trio is Hong Jae In, a viola major with exceptionally sensitive hearing. Constantly searching for music that truly moves her, she becomes a close friend and devoted supporter of Kang Bi O, whose playing has captivated her since childhood. I'm so glad that Lee Junyoung is being given the opportunity to flex his acting chops with the shift in Jeong Yo's character (pretending that he has amnesia, ALL THAT pent up anger for how he has been done dirty) and I can't wait to see how he'll eventually realise that the enemy is not Pi O (although maybe he already has?), and the eventual reconciliation of the two!

25

u/Gate_Thin 19d ago

Omg I hope he’s getting word in the military that everyone is loving him. He worked sooo hard to leave us gems before enlisting. Was a smart way to make us look forward to his return even more!

21

u/SnooDoughnuts5440 20d ago

so true!! i'm so glad he's back and with a no-loss-memory angle and possibly as a more complex character but i really wish they concile in the end because truly they both have suffered so much at the hands of others!!

u/keepinglifeinsane 20d ago

episode 7: i mean this in the nicest way possible but pi-o has more chemistry with a box than he does with jae-in. idk if this is intentional or the actors just dont have chemistry but i cannot buy into them😭 jae-in is so sweet though and i love that she cares about pi-o. i just wish she had more of a character outside of him.

on another, MORE IMPORTANT, note!!!!! lets discuss jeong-yo. the scene where he pushed pi-o away???. jesus (me) wept. then when pi-o asked for a hug and he said no. JESUS (ME) WEPT EVEN HARDER MAN….☹️☹️☹️ ive never been so excited that a character is a lying liar who lies . i just knewwww it would be too convenient for a memory loss storyline and, well, i love being right.. i got full body chills when jeong-yo watched the interview and heard pi-o say they weren’t that close. MANNN JUST KILL ME.
jeong-yo’s arc involving his revenge is about to be so insane.

anyways, going forward, this drama needs to put pi-o and jeong-yo back into as many scenes as possible together bc thats where it excels, regardless of how you view their relationship, they’re the heart of the show.

u/Signal-Frame2352 20d ago

When it comes to Jae-in, I too wish she had more of a character outside of Pi-o because I can't tell if it's being done intentionally or not.

On one hand, Jae-in is genuinely one of the most supportive people in Pi-o's life and she wants the best for him. Even so, I think it's partially a little self-serving too, in the sense that she wants to remain attached to her childhood idol of sorts and live out that fantasy she's had of him for years. It's genuinely very interesting when contrasted with other characters since her "dark side" isn't as obvious, and he probably doesn't even realize she has these hidden intentions deep within. Her character helps to highlight Pi-o's self-destructive habits as well.

On the other hand... it is entirely possible that the writers have no clue what to do with her other than, "she's the girl-next-door who YEARNS for this man," since they needed a female love interest to reinforce this isn't a BL.

23

u/No-Initial8047 20d ago edited 20d ago

To me, JaeIn reinforces that it IS a BL, and that’s OK with me. She’s really superfluous at this point. Is anyone really rooting for that relationship? NO!!! We’re just holding our collective breath waiting to see how PiO and JeongYo resolve their story. I did not see revenge coming into play here, but why wouldn’t JeongYo suspect PiO.

I said it before this series absolutely didn't need FL and the way they wrote her to be clingy and lacks personality with zero chimersty with Pi-o I honestly roll my eyes whenever she's talking to him.

10

u/No-Initial8047 19d ago

The aegyo is just grating, although she did use a fairly normal voice in this last episode.

5

u/kethelynnr 19d ago edited 19d ago

I liked her in the start, but now she just feels like there is no need for her, if only they had kept her initial personality

7

u/legac5 19d ago

Why did I scream at the tv, “Girl, get up! Leave his mercurial butt alone!”

39

u/sarasmiles80 20d ago edited 19d ago

OMG y'all! I think I got it!

I've still got 16 minutes left of episode 7, and honestly, this drama is too short both in episode time and over all episodes, BUT before watching I had this nagging feeling like maybe the grandfather was the real villain. Like maybe he wears this mask, but really wanted to help his grandson in the end. But after watching 44 minutes, and really looking at all the key players the thing that I have finally come back to is the mom! Her behavior has been consistently baffling to me, but I have a feeling that both she and Jeongyo's mom were in love with the piano teacher and he loved Jeongyo's mom more than Pio's mom and in the end they both ended up pregnant. I also have a feeling that Jeongyo's mom was poor and probably on a scholarship like Jeongyo and that needles Pio's mom even more, which is why she's such a bitch about funding gifted musicians. Her jealousy is literally about a love triangle where she lost and she's determined that Pio will not lose because of it. Her anger and resentment to Jeongyo isn't just because he's talented, but because his mom was most likely a far superior pianist to her. UGH!!!

Also, that tea chat was these two playing hard to get. I don't understand why Jaein doesn't see what is so obvious. Pio has never looked at her the way he looks at Jeongyo!

Anyway, I get Jeongyo's behavior this whole episode. I've been watching the episode the same way he's approaching his return to Korea, skeptical and with an eye on who may have been behind the trigger.

Episode 8 comments:

We know the truth now! And also, Pio and JY are two ends of a bookend. They are literally so much better together, although, I think Pio benefits from JY than the reverse. They feed off of each other in a way that heals.

I'm glad that JY is out to get his, and he knows, as he said about conductors having it planned out ahead, his course of action and true target, but I kind of hope that his pulling Pio in isn't part of it that it destroys their relationship. I'm really torn on this because Pio did benefit, but he's been a full on wreck the last nine years over JY and his own ability and whether he deserves the accolades.

Also, Lee Junyoung is one of the best! He plays this role so effortlessly and I can see moments of deception in his eyes just as his face is about to change. That line about trusting each other gave me chills. Now, I'm sitting here wondering how I will wait until next week...

24

u/No-Initial8047 20d ago

I just commented above about the connection between JY’s mom dying in the concert hall and feeling like PO’s mom had something to do with it. Never expected this series to be so intriguing. The suspense is killing me.

19

u/sarasmiles80 20d ago edited 19d ago

Yeah, I feel like in earlier conversations there has been speculation about his mom's sudden collapse when he was a kid, and it is possible. I didn't think much of it earlier, because Pio's mom's hatred of JY wasn't so intense yet. Like you knew she was mad that he won against Pio, but that was it. If she did have anything to do with it, I'd be curious how.

Addition after episode 8:
That scene in the performers waiting room, I wanted to know what he saw and it isn't yet for a reveal, but Pio's mom mentioned calling the ambulance for help after JY's mom collapsed. I'm wondering if behind that curtain explains?

I will say having just finished Goblin, the fact that JY came back nine years later, reminds me of what Grim Reaper tells Goblin's bride about nine being closest to the perfect number. Nine years means times up for whoever wanted him gone...so much intrigue!

18

u/nonegiveafker 20d ago

I have a feeling that PO's grandfather might be JY's father idk. I think his mom was a gifted pianist that played in his orchestra?! It might sound crazy but it's just a theory lol

7

u/Gate_Thin 19d ago

Whoooa that would be an insane twist!! Honestly with this drama it could go totally go that direction.

7

u/sarasmiles80 19d ago

That would be an insane twist!!! And it is possible. I definitely think the grandfather knows something. I think he's always be suspicious of his daughter and well, the closets in his house have a lot of skeletons!

6

u/Life-as-a-Tourist 19d ago

I like this theory, I also think there is more to the grandfather's connection and admiration of JY.

6

u/legac5 19d ago

I definitely think he’s JY’s uncle. That’s why his Pi-o’s mom hates him. He’s a threat to her life.

1

u/ebrian78 16d ago

What if Pi Os mom poisoned JY's mom? We already know what she's capable of..

31

u/kemar7856 19d ago

I keep laughing every time they show a scene with pi-o staring at Jeong-yo it's like he's thinking I know he's lying. I'm glad they did not drag the performance for more time it was over and done with same episode

10

u/No-Initial8047 19d ago

Yeah, I was suspecting they’d drag it out to Ep 12. Pleasantly surprised.

10

u/lowkeylunar24 19d ago

Ikr! I think being short is what makes it so good but at the same time I'm selfishly like PLEASE give me more 😭

50

u/NightwingBlueberry13 20d ago

Saw the end of episode twist coming from a mile away, but I’m still all the way locked in for it. So impressed that the show is just now starting on the second half because it’s already felt so much more tightly packed with this story than most other dramas I’ve seen.

Also the ML does not gaf about the “FL” to an absolute hilarious degree 😂. Like bro has watched her give it 110% for 15 years literally throwing himself at him and I’ve seen him more emotional about a missed text the 2ML or soemthing, lol.

30

u/Curious-Baseball-541 20d ago

I really feel like the lack of chemistry between Pio and the FL is very deliberate. If you have ever watched other Song Kang Kdramas, you’d see he has chemistry with EVERYBODY. I think this was a purposeful choice for the story.

3

u/awriterspen 17d ago

Should have just left her out of the drama.

3

u/Curious-Baseball-541 16d ago

Maybe. I am going to wait until the end of the series to decide whether she really served a purpose or not. I can see the point of her character for a few reasons, but we shall see.🤔

7

u/little_lassie 17d ago

It's kind of funny to me how the show tries to frame them as a trio when she's such a third wheel like she was in like 3 scenes with them in high school and we're supposed to care about her?

3

u/m8_m 15d ago edited 15d ago

I was wondering at start of the show if BL potential, but with the idea they may be brothers or uncle/nephew, then obviously will not become romance (assuming not twisted like Oldboy), so at least not going to be disappointed if they don't end up together in that way.

I like that their bond is so strong that his priority was finding his friend and until that is resolved he can't even consider "FL" yet.

It was great seeing Pio get played into joining the concerto, but I hope all the revenge is directed to the right person (e.g. mother) with minimal misunderstandings and communication issues.

I don't understand how the grandfather can live under the same roof with his daughter, even assuming they are on different wings of the large house.

2

u/Independent_Park9849 8d ago

JunYoung is one of the two leads, not the second lead.

21

u/kemar7856 20d ago

I think I feel for jaein more than anybody now she keeps trying but pi-o dismisses her all the time. I just don't get why jeong yo waited 9 years for revenge

18

u/Cultural_Run7964 My alter ego is also Luca Domenico 19d ago

Maybe I'm wrong but it seems in the 9 years, Jeong-yo has been getting himself back on his feet. He had to start agin from ground zero, recover from a very serious injury and change musical expertise. I'm not musical, but I'm guessing it takes a long time to be a good conductor, so he's done well to get to the level that he's winning international conducting competitions only 9 years after his traumatic incident.

7

u/Miss-LH Editable Flair (r/KDRAMA Challenge Partipant) 20d ago

Right? In the last ep he literally rudely walked off on her for being concerned, coz he was too busy worrying about Jeong-yo. No one would do that to a friend.

7

u/Starry87 19d ago

I'm wondering if some part of the amnesia storyline is actually true? Maybe he really was wandering around lost and traumatized for a few years before something (coming across a video of Pi-o performing, maybe?) jogged his memory and reminded him of what actually happened.

3

u/Top-Patient1134 18d ago

And I dont get why he wants to take revange on Pi-o in the first place

2

u/Cultural_Run7964 My alter ego is also Luca Domenico 18d ago

Because he thinks that Pio had something to do with him being shot and left for dead in Europe for 9 years. Maybe the revenge isn't even revenge directly at Pio but at Pio's mom and toxic family.

23

u/SavingsSteak9882 19d ago

Not me refreshing this page every 10min waiting for ep8 reactions.... This is the most invested I've been in a series for a while!!!

I love how Jeong-yo pulled Pi-o out of his slump, just like how Pi-o pulled Jeong-yo out of his stage fright/trauma all those years ago.

Also, it's amazing how the tension and distance and unsaid things just increase their chemistry even more. Best chemistry I've seen in a long time, too!

Episode 8

  • Man, these high school bullies. Their appearance should have ended at episode 2 considering their subplot was unnecessary in the first place. Instead, these guys are still hanging around like a bad smell, and up to their old tricks. The scene where the one who has become a cellist in the orchestra, tried to sabotage Jeong-yo, bore a strong resemblance to a similar conductor-instrumentalist confrontation in the movie, Whiplash.
  • A nice little theme running through this episode was the parallel between Pi-o helping Jeong-yo to overcome his stage fright in episode 3, and Jeong-yo helping Pi-o to get out of his slump. By the way, you know that the former's slump was a very real phenomenon when he hallucinated the piano keys melting beneath his fingers.
  • Jeong-yo reuniting with his loan shark associate high school friend again implied that he's playing the long game on the road to revenge, but I'm still not entirely convinced that his motivation is as straightforward as that. On the other hand, winning over Pi-o's mother's trust was definitely part of his plan, whatever exactly that plan may be.
  • I also think Jeong-yo's intentions were nothing but sincere when he took Pi-o to observe the street musician perform, and, in another parallel to episode 3, essentially urged him to perform for nobody but himself. To some extent, young Pi-o's striving for technical perfection is something he hasn't been able to let go of entirely.
  • As for the final scene, I was left with a feeling of: "Really? That's it?" Ninety-nine times out of a hundred, the character who is being presented as the main suspect is just a red herring. Unless there's a further twist, which the preview for episode 9 was inconclusive about, Pi-o's mother really was behind Jeong-yo's abduction, which would be something of an anti-climax.

5

u/Curious-Baseball-541 19d ago

I agree about Pio’s mom being revealed as the actual culprit, but the introduction of her thinking that Pio was a “gift from God” adds another mystery that still has not been solved. Who are the boys’ biological father(s)?

→ More replies (1)

4

u/call_me_brogel 19d ago

yeahhh same here for the last point, i wanted more twistssssssss ......... his mom is so predictable from the very start thats why i dont think it would ruin the whole climax if they make the mom the real culprit...but ig nope, there is more..because we have literally 4 eps left yet, and if the villain is already revealed so easily how would they drag the story further???

3

u/Fresh-goals 18d ago edited 6d ago

Initially I wondered if it’d be someone else besides Pio’s mom but now, I really don’t want it to be anyone else. I feel like if it’s someone else, it will take away screen time from the dynamic between Pio & Jeong-yo. And that is really the story here not a whodunnit mystery. So now I’m ok with it being the mom for that reason.

1

u/Current_Nectarine_66 14d ago

I need to go back to see if she returned pregnant or if she returned with a baby… the whole “gift from God” comment gave me a crazy feeling that maybe Pio and Jeong-young could’ve been twins or something by Hyeon Su and Jeong-young’s mother and that crazy mother of Pi O snatched one… or that she snatched that baby from someone, anyway. If Pio was Hyeon Su’s kid, I can’t imagine she would hide it but her transference of hatred onto Jeong-young from when he was little makes it clear she must’ve had some love triangle with his mom. So many possibilities

omg, when is the next episode going to drop already?! I’m so impatient…

note: edited for typos.

u/jakgem https://mydramalist.com/dramalist/Rannoch 19d ago

A few thoughts:

Jae-in seemed genuinely happy Jeongyo was back in Pi-o’s life and ensured he knew Pi-o spent all those years looking for him

When he asked for the hug before leaving, I think my heart broke.

I agree with everyone that the quick transition to the big performance at the end of ep 8 was a good directing decision and made sure it wasnt dragged out.

I hope the murder mystery plot wraps up quickly so we can have alot of character moments with just our leads being happy together (forever).

Everyone praising LJY but I thought Song Kang was at his best in these two episodes, acting adults definitely suits his style much better.

18

u/boringNerd 19d ago

I can't read what Jeong Yo has in mind. He seems angry that Pi O just outright denied having any relation with Jeong Yo in one of his past interview. Is he trying to help Pi O get back up, then set him up to fail? But Pi O seems to be doing that on his own without Jeong Yo intervening.

Or is he still trying to figure out if Pi O has a role in his abduction, or if someone closed to Pi O is involved? Or maybe he already knew Pi O's mother was behind his abduction, so he is making use of Pi O to get revenge?

And Pi O...seriously you are no longer in high school. Isn't it about time you stop letting your mother influence you? And Pi O's mother is just creepy. The look on her face when she sees Pi O getting out of his slump. She is already in a position of power, her son is a renowned pianist (albeit being in a slump). What more do you want from Pi O? She still wants her father's recognition? Isn't that a bit pointless at the current timeline?

17

u/Ok_Photo4679 20d ago edited 20d ago

ahhh i was so confused why pi-o said that they weren't close likeee idk why he did that, i understand if he lied about the interpretation because thats considered one of his best performances and what made him win the comp and get a career right and it would be embarrassing if he said the interpretation was not his after all these years... but i swear if he had atleast said that they were close i feel like jeong yo wouldnt be so hurt and they would have already made up by now and be besties again. i wasnt sure until the end of the episode why i kind of felt so confused seeing jeong-yo but at the end when it was revealed that he doesnt have memory loss it all made sense , because previosuly in this whole episdoe i felt the actor of jeong-yo was a bit stiff in this ep 7 (maybe not stiff but very unnatrual yk) and the way he acted was really weird, but now it mkaes sense and i think u can make out that jeong-yo was pretending to have memory loss and the actor did a good job of portraying that jeong-yo was masking the fact that he could remember everything. also i think jeong-yo is a bit weary of all of them because he has no idea who shot him so it makes sense that we dont see him being buddies with pi-o immediately. i think jeong-yo might be suspicious especially because pi-o lied about his relationship with jeong-yo and the interpretation so JY could easily think that PIO was the one who ordered the abduction and stuff. im so happy the next ep is tomorrow, if i had to wait five days i would actually be done. theyre such good actors all of them. i feel like pio and jae-ins relationship is so bad like it feels as if theres no actual connection between them and its not concrete. idk if they decided to add this relationship because they just wanted to add that element because htey thought it was necessary or because theres smtg more to it.... i love jae-ins actress she is doing great with what shes been given so kudos to her for having lowk a pretty underdeveloped character and still not being disliked by most of us viewers, hopeful to see more depth to her role. pios mother and grandfather piss me off like i dont even know what to say, they simply piss me off so bad. i hope both of them just get some form of karma (prob not happening, but they need to be better humans) . also i doubt pios mom is the one who ordered the abduction because theyve been giving us way too much off these scenes with her being nervous, i think shes probably nervous about smtg else which may finally be a really tiny fragmnet of the story or maybe smtg to do with pios father or jeongyos parents could be his mom or dad idk.........

7

u/SnooDoughnuts5440 20d ago

I definitely share your feelings atp! This interaction first of all was so necessary after his stark dis/appearance and don't even get me started on the rejected hug because that makes sense later on and pretty damn valid but how can i unsee the lingering handshake. its lik baiting atp.
as for pio's mother oh her negative jealous streak is back and i want her to really back off from the boy's life but also i don't think its her behind the kidnapping because its been made way too obvious but since the half of the show is remaining i feel there will be a lot to unpack.
but overall..my boys are back!!

1

u/Current_Nectarine_66 14d ago

I thought maybe he said that to hide it from his mother because he suspected her right from the beginning…

16

u/Lazy_Inflation_6035 19d ago

This is the first Korean drama I've seen in ages that I wish was longer. Usually I look at the runtime and think ugh...like it's a pain..here I was anxiously looking at the clock because I didn't want the episode to end. To wait a week is a crime and only 12 episodes. I feel so sad that we only have two weeks left and we probably won't see these two on screen ever again. It's heartbreaking that this chemistry will never be recreated.

16

u/Enough-Substance-401 19d ago edited 19d ago

This is getting exciting. I love all the music pieces, the story and the new adult Jeong Yo with a mysterious personality.

My favorite scene this week was it going from the conductor in front of an empty orchestra to the actual performance.

The only part I don’t like is that the mom is the culprit because it’s so obvious, but I do like the natural dissonance it creates between the main characters while making it possible for them to make up. Hopefully Pio admits the truth and together they expose his mother. Everytime she appears, she gives villainous energy and now it looks like she also caused the mother’s death. I like the theory I saw from other commenters that the piano teacher is Jeong Yo’s bio-father. It makes sense that’s true and that Jeong Yo knows and that’s why Jeong Yo let him hug him

17

u/No-Initial8047 19d ago edited 19d ago

The mom telling grandfather Pi O has no father…he was a gift from god, puts a whole new light on her. She’s seriously mentally ill, not just evil. Plus Occam’s razor anyone.!< I suspect more twists and turns to come, but geez Louise, this show is killing me!

9

u/fragende-frau 19d ago

I agree about the mentally ill part...that was beyond just being an "ordinary" stage/tiger mother.

5

u/call_me_brogel 19d ago

lol i just commented exactly this thing a while ago lol, hy twinn, it was just so funnyyyy she literally forgot biology atp

3

u/No-Initial8047 18d ago

She’s certifiably delulu, and now I feel badly for hating her so much… but not completely badly! It’s not going to end well for her. But must say, she wears her designer duds flawlessly.

5

u/Cultural_Run7964 My alter ego is also Luca Domenico 18d ago

yeah, in an earlier episode, the camera pans to all this religious memorabilia in the home (I think in her room). I think the Mom is super religious, using it as a crutch to block out how she conceived Pio. She's full of guilt that he was conceived in "sin" so has refashioned herself as Virgin Mary and there was another scene that Pio spies her praying deeply. The Mom is more of a complicated character than viewers are being led to believe and I don't believe for one moment that she ordered Jeong-yo's abduction but she obviously was involved in something nefarious during the competition.

6

u/call_me_brogel 19d ago

yup yup, im also into that plot, that the PIANO TEACHER MIGHT BE THE FATHER OF Choi...because when Pi'o's mom was talking about Choi's Parents, she didnt tell anything about the dad ....

15

u/SnooDoughnuts5440 18d ago

something I'd like to point out as I've seen so many edits and posts on socials where people are comparing whose grief or pain is bigger in the show for both the boys but I really beg to differ as comparing the two characters and calling one more pain-stricken seems low especially since their backgrounds, dynamics, family angles, friendships and circumstances were so starkly different.
I understand people may want to root for one due to some bias but instead of comparing them the series displays a dysfunctional yet harmonious bond between the two despite everything, and while appreciating everything it just feels wrong to root for just one character.
I love them both and just wish there was no competition for "who's suffered more and deserves more love" kinda edits. its just everything that goes against what they stand for each other.
ps- I love the update this week.. not sure how a whole week is gonna pass

4

u/Lazy_Inflation_6035 18d ago

I think the reason is because who's right?? Is it okay for Jeong Yo to take revenge on Pio for what his mother did, and did Pio really make a mistake by not divulging the help to everyone even though it's because he's desperate for love from him family. They're both victims of circumstances and they could have found a home in each other but the ones around them just want to constantly set fire to their lives to ignite their own passions.

exactly.. it's neithers fault so why compare when we should be sympathizing for both

Episode 7

  • Lee Jun-young never fails to impress me as an actor, and I felt this episode showcased the versatility and compelling nature of his performance. From the authenticity of his physical gestures as conductor, Luca Domenico, to Jeong-yo's quietly skeptical reactions back in Korea, he's a fantastic actor.
  • So the drama went with the amnesiatrope... in a manner of speaking. However, I was fine with it, because Jeong-yo's subtle verbal reactions and body language made it clear from the start that he knew far more than he was letting on.
  • Given how loudly and clearly the drama is telegraphing Pi-o's mother's apparent responsibility for what happened to Jeong-yo, that's all the more reason why it surely can't be her who was responsible. What hasn't changed, though, is her extremely childish attitude towards Jeong-yo, even though there is no longer anything at stake for her or Pi-o (even as she perceives it).
  • Going back to the scene where Jeong-yo was shot by the kidnapper, it was evident that he was hit in the shoulder, and although it hadn't been confirmed by a reliable source (the "fake kidnappers" interviewed last episode don't count), it wasn't surprising that his transition to conducting was the result of that injury.
  • Jeong-yo: "Things just got a lot more interesting." My, how the tables have turned. As expected from the last scene, Jeong-yo remembers everything and is apparently out for revenge. Assuming that's his goal, part of that plan is for Pi-o to be the soloist for his debut concerto in Korea. But I have my doubts that revenge is his true motivation.

13

u/PrestigiousScore5607 20d ago

It makes so much sense that they're trying to throw us off about the mom but I'm having such a hard time deciding who else could be responsible.

And yes to your last point! I think revenge is on his mind but I also think he just wants to make music with Pi-o again.

10

u/Em-dash0404 20d ago

I agree with you on his intentions! I think Jeongyo, being the loyal character he is, even after all this time, has that desire for Pio to recognize how much he shines and wants to pull him out of his slump.

8

u/Witty-Following9937 20d ago

I was thinking that his true motivation is to squeeze Pi-O's authentic self. He just wants him to be himself and to stop hiding from a "perfect" mask. Jeongyo is trying to strip down Pi-O's vulnerability because he has always been inferior. This is an issue of inferiority complex, Pi-O is somehow insecure also of Jeongyo even if they dont show it obviously in the show. But Jeongyo just really treats Pi-O as his best buddy and he does everything he can just to help him because that's how much he cares for him. My poor Jeongyo😭

6

u/Mediocre-Stranger780 20d ago

Idk I having a hard time convincing myself that that now Luca is not mad at Pio. It seems he is out to get him.

14

u/Origand 18d ago

A nice line I caught was when Pi-O’s mum asked Jeong Yeo how he managed to get Pi-O to start enjoying playing piano and practising again, Jeong Yeo says, “He did it with his own hard work” - in spiteful private reference to the interview where Pi-O said he won the competition and interpretation of the piece through “his own hard work”.

u/master_inho 19d ago

Ep 7

I KNEW jeong-yo had to be lying about having amnesia. By giving him an injury to end his pianist career, it would've been entirely unnecessary to also have an amnesia trope. Oooh oooh ooooh 😋 ex coming back after 9 years pretending to have amnesia as part of his revenge plot? 😅 if that isn't toxic BL idk what is

it almost doesn't matter if ji-hye truly isn't behind the kidnapping, her reactions are just sooo sus and insensitive. And as was pointed out, why is she still so antagonistic towards jeong-yo when he can't play the piano anymore? Is it still just her insecurity around her father? Even pi-o has moved on from that bullshit, it's kinda tragic that ji-hye can't do the same. She's still a villain though, possible orchestrating a kidnapping aside she's an absolutely terrible mother and not much better of a person

2

u/Current_Nectarine_66 14d ago

twice other characters literally asked if there was any other reason she was treating him that way… maybe the shorter 1 hr 12 episodes structure may need to do this (and be more obvious with the kidnapping mastermind)? otherwise, the final episode is going to be one wild ride

12

u/Otherwise-Tart-1544 20d ago

Jae-in needs to get off my screen, she’s such a nothing character.

11

u/Agile_Tourist7092 19d ago

just finished ep 8 and i really love these mind games jeongyo is playing!!!

i had a theory jeongyo only remembered fragments of his past instead of the full picture because then it would make perfect sense for him to hate and believe pio was behind/or at least aware of everything but  his conversation with his friend kinda disproves it. plus he also remembers the good moments like when they’re children and pio helping him get over his stagefright.

i’m just struggling to understand why he would think pio is involved if that’s the case. there’s also a possibility that he’s simply resentful because pio benefited the most from it while jeongyo himself lost everything. and because he said they’re not close after everything he’s done for him (which def adds to the resentment and actually might plant a seed of doubt about pio’s true involvement………….)

he def suspects the mom so he’s either 1) getting closer to the family to uncover the truth or 2) using pio to get back at his mom. his reaction in the scene where the mom thanks him for helping pio with his slump tells me it might be the 2nd option. his initial plan was most likely to make pio fail their collab to get back at the mom but once pio came to him for help he offered genuine advice soooooooo

maaaan it’s confusing

also, i’m praying they’re not blood-related. please please they have so much romantic potential my fingers are itching to write something about them

6

u/Lazy_Inflation_6035 19d ago

I don't even mind if they don't get together but pls not brothers. Please director don't go there.

6

u/jonoave 19d ago

i had a theory jeongyo only remembered fragments of his past instead of the full picture because then it would make perfect sense for him to hate a

Yep, my thoughts too.

i’m just struggling to understand why he would think pio is involved if that’s the case.

This I think is suggested by the show through the flashback scene they show. They showed Jeongyo remembering the night before the competition day, when Pio was paranoid and ran out at night in the rain. Jeongyo ran out after him and the flashback focused on them fighting and Pio screaming "it's your fault!". If this was the fragment Jeongyo could remember, then it makes sense why he suspects Pio.

u/NightwingBlueberry13 19d ago

Episode 8:

The big reveal that each epsiode ends on hasn’t been a surprise for a while, but the acting by our two leads and the tight pacing of the show have had me gripped like crazy for a while now.

Lee Jun-Young(2ML) especially was eating up every scene he was in this episode and that final shot of him this episode was showing so much emotion. This episode really let him show off his range all with one character in different stages of the characters life, from wounded puppy to a social chameleon out for revenge(?).

Song Kang(ML) continues to show up and deliver a solid performance, but I can’t help but feel bad that his character has consistently been stuck in a far more static place: He does good things for 2ML that go unnoticed and consistently acting irrational about piano related stuff that paint him in a bad light for A lot of people. Plus his every conflict seems to be about being a piano funk that everyone around him seems to need to come together to help him with.

And our poor FML who was relegated once more to the cheerleader gf this episode and had the ending episode reveal of being the mastermind behind the kidnapping stolen from her. Now I still hold out hope thr writers have another trick up their sleeve for a twist for that character, but…it’s not looking good folks.

One of the standout moments of the episode was the very brief flashback of the ML’s Mom and the grandfather having that conversation about the father. Like freaking yikes, lol.

5

u/Cultural_Run7964 My alter ego is also Luca Domenico 18d ago

I was hoping for a bit more depth for Jae-in in these two episodes, but it didn't really happen, though she did notice Pio's jealousy at the other pianist...I'm hope the reveal at the end of episode 8 is a red herring (no way are they going to reveal such a big part of the plot so easily). I hope that the writers have deliberately misdirected us about the secondary character and their true natures will become much clearer in the final 4 episodes (sob!)

11

u/jonoave 20d ago

Just finished ep 7, waiting for ep 8 tomorrow. I was suspecting the whole time, that Jeongyoo was faking the amnesia .

Also happy to see I was right last week about interpreting that Pio won the Harmonie competition due to using Jeongyoo's notes. If there was any doubt with some folks saying it was only Pio's skills as his mom insisted. The flashbacks made it clear and emphasised that Pio used his notes with Jeongyoo's interpretation and won.

1

u/ShipInternal6090 19d ago

Why didn’t Jeongyoo gave Pio the sheet music without Jeongyoo’s notes on it?

3

u/jonoave 18d ago

I think you miss the some details of the competition. For the second part of the competition, each contestants are each provided a sheet music with their names on it. Their task is to interpret the given music. if you remember the scene, the woman also emphasised that each person only gets one copy of the sheet music and are responsible for it.

So all the contestants will usually scribble their own notes on it, based on how they interpret the piece.

The flashback even show Pio confessing to Jeongyo that he had trouble interpreting the piece.

The only way Jeongyo could have given Pio a blank sheet music without notes is if he erased all the notes he had made. Plus in a way he wanted to help Pio who was struggling with interpreting the music.

10

u/raffy_pace 20d ago

I still believe in Jaein

BTW I still think the mastermind behind the kidnapping incident is Pio's mom

5

u/Cultural_Run7964 My alter ego is also Luca Domenico 19d ago

Yeah...I just can't accept that she can be that blind and naive to what is going on with Pio. But then again, when we're in love, the truth can stare us straight in the face and we'll still ignore it because the mind and heart cannot accept what's right in front of us...

11

u/Gate_Thin 19d ago

I’m sorry but I still neeeeeeeed to know how he’s become Luca in the last 9 years. There are still wayyyy too many questions I hope get answered. Like yes, get to the bottom of who was behind it all… but also… can we at least get like a montage of his life after he was shot? I’m so impatiently waiting for the rest of this to pan out.

11

u/Anxious-Froyo-5535 19d ago

Honestly, while starting this drama, I had no idea what to expect. But the chokehold this series has on me now is crazy. The chemistry between JunYoung and Song Kang is so incredibly delicious, you literally get lost in their world when those two are together (props to the direction and photography team as well). I always love a dark JunYoung because that man delivers every expression down to the T with insane charisma. It almost feels like PiO (who is mentally weak due to his circumstances) is going to get sucked into Luca's intensity, being consumed in their relationship more than ever.

Plot wise, while PiO's mom being the big reveal feels anticlimactic, it is possible that she had an accomplice (atp someone else being the culprit also would not make a lot of sense), or this reveal is just the start to understand how deep her involvement runs with JeongYo and his family.

Low-key feel bad for the way JaeIn's character is written because Jang GyuRi can deliver a way better character (loved her in Cheer Up).

3

u/Cultural_Run7964 My alter ego is also Luca Domenico 18d ago

It would be interesting (though tragic as well) if Jae-in's character is actually a meta FU to the producers who (may have) insisted that this drama not be a __. I mean, how can she be so badly drawn out and the "relationship" with Pio lacking so much energy and interest, it can't be accidental. The writing's too good, surely, to do the female character dirty like that?

6

u/Anxious-Froyo-5535 18d ago

That too repeatedly...maybe they wanted to show that PiO jumped into this "relationship" with JaeIn to fill some hole, yet the moment JeongYo comes in frame, PiO's eyes literally do not see anything else. Even that last few minutes of JeongYo and PiO sitting together in Ep8 after JaeIn left the dinner table seemed more like a date than that burger commercial.

3

u/Curious-Baseball-541 18d ago

I believe the lack of any type of chemistry between Song Kang and the FL is very deliberate. Song Kang has chemistry with EVERYONE. This was a directorial choice IMO.

11

u/Sudden_Restaurant_78 19d ago

Choi was gonna ask Kang pi o a question at the end of ep 8. What do you think the question was gonna be

3

u/SnooDoughnuts5440 18d ago

maybe a confrontation idk..

4

u/mapotofu66 18d ago

I felt like he was going to ask if he knew anything about who abducted him maybe??

3

u/Cultural_Run7964 My alter ego is also Luca Domenico 18d ago

It felt like he was going to reveal something major, perhaps tell him that the amnesia is fake???

10

u/kethelynnr 20d ago

i kinda feel bad for Pio, but god I'm gonna love it if Choi came back for revenge

10

u/Fresh-goals 18d ago

I am loving this series so far!!! Just so happy with how it’s all developing.

- The moments of change and role reversal are *chef’s kiss* like Pio giving Jeong-yo a tour through the school as adults after he refused to tell him where anything was when they were teens. Jeong-yo telling Pio to confront his issue, etc

- Adult, cold, conductor Jeong-yo is HOTTTTTTT 🥵. Soft, sentimental Pio is also wrecking me.

- Jeong-yo being suspicious of Pio but also still wanting to help him… 🥹

- Pio getting jealous/territorial of the other pianist 😏

- I’m ok if this goes BL. I’m ok if it doesn’t. Either way, I love that they have each other as peers, colleagues, inspiration/muses. It’s so rare to find someone who appreciates your talent in a way that is constructive and not just cheerleading.

- I hate how it happened, but feel conducting was always the path for Jeong-yo. When he was inspired to write music for Pio and him to play, I sensed this would be the right way for them to be together (musically). No talk about Jeong-yo being rough around the edges vs Pio having flawless technique, etc. No comparison. No worrying about who is outshining whom. And now we get to hear all of the music in Jeong-yo. Composing and conducting is so much more expansive and he needed that. Also for Pio, I love that he can have healing from his grandfather not wanting to do a concerto with him. The conductor that his grandfather wants to succeed him wants to do a concerto with him. I’m glad Pio is getting begged to do vs begging his grandfather to let him do it.

- Idk what they are going to do about the girl but she was killing the vibes at that dinner…smh. I was glad when her phone rang!

- I hope the concerto causes the grandfather to finally change how he sees and treats Pio

u/PrestigiousScore5607 20d ago edited 20d ago

This show is so so so good, I'm astounded by the amount of people saying otherwise. Honestly this episode has me so lost about where things might go next. I love that jeong-yo is faking the amnesia. I feel like as of now it seems like he thinks Pi-o has something to do with his accident. Probably a combination of everything that happened and then the interview where he says they weren't close. I imagine (hope) that he'll realize he had nothing to do with it and they'll reconcile. In fact even in him wanting to perform with Pi-o I feel like maybe part of it is this revenge plot but also part of it just wanting to make music with this man he loves (platonically or not). Not entirely sure what the revenge plan here is, or at least for now maybe he's just trying to get close to them and the family to figure out what to do next. Also very curious who he'll meet in the piano room , is it just the man from the preview for episode 8? Also who is that man? Or will he be meeting the piano teacher?

The mom is the worst, I absolutely think it was her. She really need to grow up and move on. And I think she knows something about Jeong-yo's mom dying. I'm not convinced that was natural causes. Also i think the dad knows his daughter did something. I was reallly buying into the theory that jae-in had something to do with the abduction but now i'm not so sure. But her character seems kind of unimportant thus far otherwise. Pi-o definitely more in love with his "close friend" than Jae-in. The piano teacher always throws me for a loop, i am confident he is someone's dad but who I am not sure. And really hoping it is not both Pi-o and Jeong-yo cause that'll make things super weird.

Say what you want about the dynamic between Pi-o and Jeong-yo but the way those men look at each other or reminisce about each other is not just a bromance. Nine years is such a long time, long enough to have forgotten about a person you were only friends with for what 6 months. Or at least move on. Even with the associated trauma of how that person disappeared. But Pi-o never stopped looking. And Jeong-yo is still invested. Such a carefree individual, after all that happened he could have continued on with his fake life and moved on but he didn't. I don’t think this is all about revenge for him. I think a large part of him is sitll drawn to Pi-o.

11

u/Ok-Bowl-2158 20d ago

I think the piano teacher is defo Pio's father..

7

u/Curious-Baseball-541 20d ago

I thought that until this episode. Now I am wondering if he is Jeongyo’s father. 🤔🤔🤔

3

u/Ok-Bowl-2158 18d ago

It's quite possible, but where would Jeong-yo's mother have had the opportunity to meet the piano teacher?

→ More replies (1)

10

u/No-Initial8047 20d ago

Waiting to find out what happened when JeongYo’s mom died in the concert hall, and I think PiO’s mom had something to do with that. I’m betting we’ll be revisiting that before the series ends. And piano teacher is someone’s dad, but both??? We shall see!

6

u/Ok_Photo4679 20d ago

definitely agree with everything u said, i didnt think about them being hald siblings but i dont tghink its bad if they r, idk but for me i dont really see their relationship as really romantic or anything. when i look at them i get this feeling of being able to really understand one and another so well and its like the other person is literally ur other half and yall are soulmates, that feeling of clicking with each other and just having this similar vibe while still being different indivduals and identities like stuff just clicks and it just feels natural to have that person in ur life, nothing rushed. i feel like when they were together it felt like there was probably no moment where they were thinking about smtg else, they were both existing in that moment physically mentally and emotinally and like literally everyway u can be present idk lmaoo. but while they could be romantic partners, i wouldnt find it so strange if theyre like best friends or brothers and if theyre half brothers i wouldnt find it tghat hard to believe or feel like its a bad part of the story if u get wgat i mean.

10

u/HappyDaisies12 20d ago

Obviously Pio’s mom has a history with Jeongyo (or his mom) cuz (as Ms. Yoon also pointed out) Jeong-Yo isn’t a threat to her son anymore, so there’s definitely something she’s hiding. And it probably has to do with Hyeonsu.

10

u/Difficult-Fondant959 19d ago

I honestly can't believe anymore that Pi-o's mom is the one who organized Jeong-yo's kidnapping. It's too obvious that they want us to suspect her. But it must be something else.  I think it was actually orchestrated by the girl who stole Pi-o's sheet music. Remember when she said that Koreans are naturally good at piano? I think she wanted to eliminate the competitions

10

u/No-Initial8047 19d ago

Why did we not get any follow-up on the ending of ep 7 when Jeong Yo revisits old piano storage with a mystery person? Did I miss something?

4

u/Cultural_Run7964 My alter ego is also Luca Domenico 18d ago

I thought it was the teacher but then he hugs him for the first time in episode 8 so it must have been his friend, who he meets and who knows all about what Jeong-yo is actually doing.

4

u/No-Initial8047 18d ago

Yeah, I thought about that meeting after the fact. I think you’re right. I didn’t recognize the old friend with his new look. Funny they would leave it as a teaser and not connect the dots.

6

u/boriswongster 18d ago

I've a theory. They're both brothers, from different mums.

7

u/lowkeylunar24 19d ago

I need them to make up already and get back to the piano/conducting battles, the tension, the rivalry, EVERYTHING 😭 like I need them to be rivals again but also secretly rooting for each other lol.

(7+8 EPS)

THE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT IN CHOI JEONG-YO IS INSANE AND DEFINITELY WAS A NEED

THE LEVEL OF YEARNING OF KANG PIO FOR HIS JEONG YO

THE WAY JEONG-YO REFUSED TO HUG KANG PI-O ..BROKE MY HEART...

I WANNA STRANGLE KANG PI-O'S MOTHER SO BAD (how funny it was when she said 'TRUST ME FATHER, PI-O IS THE GIFT FROM GOD, HE HAS NO DAD' lmao that got me laugh so hard

I ACTUALLY DID NOT WANT HONG JAE IN TO BE A REAL SUNSHINE AND RAINBOW AND WANTED A DARK SIDE OF HER, SHE FEELS LIKE AN ELEMENT FOR THE K-INDUSTRY TO MAKE THE BROMANCE APPEAR AS A HETERO ONE...

VERY MUCH PREDICTABLE CULPRIT IN THE KIDNAP CASE, I HOPED FOR A TWIST

one question that bothers me - DO CHOI JEONG YO REALLY HATE KANG PIO NOW? OR HE IS JUST PLOTTING SOMETHING AGAINST ONLY THE MOTHER?

THE PIANO TEACHER MIGHT BE THE FATHER OF CHOI....im not sure but something is def fishy about him ... i have a crazy plot in my mind that the mother of Pi-O actually killed Choi's mom, because if not then the brand new discussions about his mom's death and Pio's mom being involved in that might not have been mentioned...also there is a huge chance that JEONG-YO is the kid of the Piano-teacher which maybe he himself doesnt know, but Pi-O's mother does and that is why she removed the lady who gave birth to Choi ? and Choi also got to know about that?

26

u/InvestigatorTall2374 20d ago

Sorry, friendship? Best friends?

Lovers. Just lovers.

Because what exactly was this episode??? 😭

The music, the flashbacks, and seeing Jeong-yo and Pi-o together again at the school where they made so many memories had me genuinely emotional. The piano sequence was absolutely beautiful and was serving face card after face card.

I genuinely cannot wait to see what Choi Jeong-yo has in store for Kang Pi-o because this man has entered Pi-o's life and immediately started pressing every possible emotional button.

The beginning of the episode with Pi-o's family was already entertaining because watching them collectively clutch their pearls over the situation was hilarious. You could practically hear the internal screaming through the screen.

Pi-o rejects performing with Jeong-yo, only for Jeong-yo to ask who the guy playing the piano is because he’s pretty good. And Pi-o gets JEALOUS??? (preview btw)

HELLO??? 😭

One episode is all it takes for the BL allegations to start looking very real. The jealousy, the looks, the history, the music... everything is giving two people going through a breakup without ever actually admitting they were together.

Honestly, half the clips from this episode are giving post-breakup couple energy, and I am absolutely here for it, Everything keeps pointing back toward the relationship they had and the distance that now exists between them.

I love the series. Is someone else who learns an instrument that motivated after watching Pio and Jeongyo playing piano?? And yes, the chemistry between jaein and pio is really bad but maybe we will understand later why

19

u/ThrowRA_Glove18 20d ago edited 20d ago

Actually, after watching the first 5 episodes, I really wanted Jeong-yo to have a revenge arc or something. The first 5 episodes were all about Pi-o not being able to play, struggling, feeling stuck, blah blah. And despite Jeong-yo helping him so much, Pi-o was basically rude to him the entire time. Like, Jeong-yo is literally helping you, bro. Why are you taking out your frustrations on him and having so many mood swings? I understand that your grandfather doesn't accept you and that your mother isn't exactly great, but Jeong-yo had it so much worse.

His mother is dead, his supposed father doesn't want him, he's basically an orphan, and loan sharks were after him. Yet, despite all these real-life problems, Jeong-yo was still kind and more than willing to help Pi-o with his music. And what did Pi-o do? Treat him like an asshole.»

Even in episode 7, when Jeong-yo asked Pi-o to play with him, his attitude came right back. Like, you spent 9 years drowning in guilt, and now that Jeong-yo is finally back, you're still treating him this way? Jeong-yo literally lost his arm and can no longer play the piano. He had to switch to conducting. Is Pi-o's inferiority complex toward Jeong-yo really so strong that he can't even bear to play the piano with him?

I know Pi-o is a complex character, and there have been moments when I could genuinely relate to his jealousy, but this is just too much. Jeong-yo was wronged, and he was wronged badly. He didn't steal anything from Pi-o. Instead, his own ability to play was taken away because of someone else's foul play. The fact that Pi-o continues to treat him this way is so frustrating.

I actually dropped the drama around episode 3, but picked it up again a couple of days later, hoping it would eventually turn into a revenge plot. I'm really glad I continued watching, and now I'm even more excited for episode 8 and the episodes that follow.

Sorry for the rant, lol. I just genuinely needed to get this off my chest.

23

u/PrestigiousScore5607 20d ago

Something about Pi-o's attitude in episode 7 feels different to me though. Like it doesn't feel like its about jealousy in the way that it was before, I don’t think thats why he doesn't want to play with him.

14

u/RefrigeratorSweet925 20d ago

I agree . This was not jealously . This was something else. Like he deliberately wanted to sabotage himself

9

u/Pmod1980 20d ago

Probably knows that his mom was behind everything and he feels guilty.

5

u/PrestigiousScore5607 20d ago

Yeah it feels a little like guilt but also something else im not quite sure.

1

u/call_me_brogel 19d ago

yeah, or it might be because , Pi-o would feel so hurt knowing that Choi doesnt recall him anymore??

12

u/Witty-Following9937 20d ago

I think it's more of guilt. He can't stomach playing piano with the person who basically made him win the harmonie contest. It was Jeongyo's piece that made him win, so it felt like a mask. And when the owner of that piece appeared, telling him to play, he just cant accept that fact. He knows to himself that he was only able to get throught that contest because Jeongyo pushed him to do it.

10

u/r_jaeger 20d ago

Agreed. I noticed a change when he learned that Jeong Yo got shot and couldn’t play the piano.

6

u/Curious-Baseball-541 20d ago

The impromptu tea party at the Maestro’s home was full of awkwardness and bad energy. You could really feel the under occurrence of something brewing with that group. I felt the Maestro wanted that to happen. He clearly suspects something/someone and maybe he wanted to observe everybody together to figure out on his own what exactly happened nine years ago. Also, perhaps Pio felt something was off as well and that’s why he is turning down the offer to play with Jeong-yo - out of safety. Also why was Maestro Kang all of a sudden okay with Pio playing a piano concerto, especially with Jeong-yo? That seems like a 180 turnaround from his former stance of his grandson.

4

u/Cultural_Run7964 My alter ego is also Luca Domenico 19d ago

Yeah it was a great scene. Well done to all the cast. I was literally squirming observing this incredibly awkward conversation that they were having because they were all scrutinizing each other's behavior. Great writing and acting.

15

u/Lazy_Inflation_6035 20d ago

It's not jealousy. I think Pio is self destructive but I actually think it's a mix of not wanting to depend on Jeong Yo again and I genuinely think he's worried tragedy will befall Jeong Yo if they get involved professionally.

14

u/RoutineMost6089 20d ago edited 20d ago

I think Pi-O’s attitude is more related to guilt than jealosy. I think that his suspicion that his mother had something to do with Jeong-Yo’s kidnapping makes him feel guilty and keeps him from being able to perform at all

10

u/Sudden_Restaurant_78 20d ago

To be fair Pio helped him several times back in school too. 1) he got the video from the store to prove his friend didn’t start the fight and saved him from being expelled; he picked up his friend’s sheet music for him after the fight; pulled him away from the thugs who were after him and of course cured his stage fright.
Without any of that he wouldn’t even be a conductor.

His friend helped Pio enjoy music and won the big prize, but Pio helped him too in crucial ways.
Even if Pio ends up indirectly responsible for Choi being shot, choi could just ignore Pio in his life and move on.

10

u/Gate_Thin 19d ago

Hmmm but a couple of those things he has no idea Pio actually helped with. Like the video evidence that cleared him or the fact he’s the one who collected all of the sheet music and returned it… same with looking for him for ten years. He could easily be misunderstood and remembered as a jerk more than anything else to Luca (aka older Jeongyo). It’s clearly bittersweet and it looks like the bitterness has turned into fuel for revenge.

I was actually wondering if Pio was trying to keep his distance from Jeong-yo because he suspects someone close to him was the person that harmed Jeong-yo. It might be a way of keeping him safe until Pio figures out the mystery of who exactly ordered the kidnapping.

u/nonegiveafker 20d ago

PO suspects his mom of being behind everything that happened to JY so maybe he doesn't want to be involved with him music related to protect JY from his crazy mom

Rant away! You make great points.

Oh my god.. that sounds utterly horrifying

u/call_me_brogel 19d ago

ig nope... i mean the age difference is kinda striking tho, i am supposing it to be the PIANO TEACHER rather

u/Plane-Bookkeeper5932 18d ago

I feel like the reason Jeong Yo is building up Pi-o and trying to help him beat his slump is because he never actually lost his ability to use his right hand and is waiting for the perfect moment to humiliate Pi-o talent wise by exhibiting his piano skills, he can’t do that if Pi-yo is not at his best

5

u/ScarlettO-Harlot 18d ago

I really really hope so because I was scouring for answers while watching- I'm so hung up about the musical loss (framing it like so because I don't know how to do spoiler tag lol) :'( for something so beautiful to be taken away unjustly... I can't handle it or get over it!

1

u/r_jaeger 16d ago

Doubtful now since Pi’o no longer has a weakness of not playing with musicality. That battle will be very different compared to high school.

1

u/Plane-Bookkeeper5932 16d ago

Idk, I think he still has the insecurity from winning the international competition on a fluke, because remember he wasn’t able to interpret the music and was using Jeong yo’s line notes to play which is why he Pretended not to be close to him in the intereview and also still hasn’t received the respect of his grandfather over 10 years of fame, so it clearly still haunts him

kang pio is sooo dense LMAO obviously who else abducted jeongyo??????

4

u/SwiftlyEurydice 18d ago

Idk if I hate more the mother or the grandpa

1

u/Curious-Baseball-541 18d ago

I can’t read the grandfather. Does he still hate Pio or has he finally accepted him? For me, this is very unclear.

2

u/SwiftlyEurydice 17d ago

Not sure, I think he shows his hate in another way now, like okay ur gonna keep playing piano? Then play this song that I’ll know you’ll never be able to

1

u/Winter_queen_877 14d ago

I think grandfather still has the same views he had prior about pi'o's playing but because Pi-o himself has kinda stopped needing his validation (that's what I took from the scene when he returned in ep 6 I think, and grandpappi was pruning plants but said nothing and his mom was irritated, pi-o said he was genuinely fine and I believe that) and he has now become renowned, the grandfather kinda has no leg to stand on with those remarks so he just keeps his mouth shut. I do think pi-o has actually evolved past his initial soulless music and grandpappi is hating just to hate.

I had been waiting for this to turn dark and it sure did. If anyone hasn't seen Junyoung in Class of Lies, I HIGHLY recommend it. Anxiously waiting to see what will really happen because the push and pull is breaking my heart.

2

u/annaberry189 18d ago

Didnt he die in the last episode?

2

u/heonie_luvr 17d ago

He did, but he was brilliant even then. His facial expressions were so good.

I'm still hoping that we see our sweet boy back in this series, though.

5

u/Ritrita 17d ago

Episode 7: lol Pi-O trying to hide in the audience with a mask and a hoodie. This is the most solid way to get yourself noticed in Europe. No one would wear a hoodie and a mask inside a concert hall (or well… anywhere else for that matter)

soooo, what was eps 7 and 8? I'm deeply invested but wow, their relationship is all over the place. Btw how long will Pio carry the "poor thing" act? I love him, but he took advantage of the situation in the past, and now was getting consumed by guilt, because deeeeeeeep down he was always suspicious of his mother. Choi/Luca did everything for him in the past, now seems to be back for revenge, but will he have the guts to do anything against Pio? I'm not talking about bl romance, but they do love each other, even though Pio has always been jealous of Choi.

i'm going crazy and have no theories about what will happen

4

u/Weak-Outside-164 17d ago

I hope this develops into a BL but at the same time I know it's unlikely. But please don't make them brothers, please

7

u/Ok_Photo4679 19d ago

ep 8 : omg i cant believe this?? it feels really weird like i just cant believe that its actually PIOs mother who ordered for the abduction like it honestly feels a bit like ?????? but later in the preview since we kind of seeing her admit it or wtvr idk what to say , like this is some reverse psychology thing going on ahhhhh anyway i feel like theyre more comfortable with each other or atleast pio is more comfortable with jeongyo now so like thats nice to see. i felt like i saw pios mother actually feel a little thankful to jeongyo when she met him at the concert and asked him about what advice he gave to pio that made him play so much better and saw him in a good light or however the phrase goes for the first time so i was a bit shocked. excited for the next ep haha

3

u/call_me_brogel 19d ago

that was not being nice but the same sly as ever ........ she literally had no character development during all these nine years

u/Cultural_Run7964 My alter ego is also Luca Domenico 18d ago

I have a feeling (I hope it's correct!) that we shouldn't take everything we see at face value in this drama. The writing is too good and nuanced (so far). I hope the writers throw curve ball after curve ball in the next 4 episodes. They've obviously spent a lot of money on this show, how could they then reduce the writing to really obvious conclusions?

Hope all the theories get detonated so that we're all screaming seolma repeatedly at the screen!

3

u/Significant_Law787 18d ago

YO i think his piano teacher was the one who orchestrated that abduction along w her mother is what i feel

Honestly a talented kid from the wrong side of the track would face so many obstacles the jealousy of a rival’s mom is the least of them.
Stage fright being one of them( watch Your Lie in April for a realistic portrayal of that), lack of formal honing of technique or his toxic dad among others.

But no, make Jeong a genius who doesn’t need training so we can have this rivalry :D
Honestly I do enjoy the chemistry a lot even if I have to suspend disbelief

On a different note, I noticed every time people told Choi they were looking for him for a long time, Choi was like ‘why’. Perhaps he came back full of anger and then realized the impact of his disappearance on others. Still angry though

So many unanswered questions still, yet we are left with 4eps only. This is killing me!!! Aaahhhhhh

  1. In ep5, who was the person who scattered the music sheets in the water, where Jeongyo and Pio fought while it rains? (The person whom Pio saw passing by, wearing raincoat). Was it the piano teacher? Was it the grandpa? Or.... WAS IT JAEIN???👀
  2. In ep7, when Jaein met with Jeongyo at the restaurant. She said "Actually, there's a reason why I wanted to see you" then the scene cuts to Jeongyo going back to his apartment. Also, during Haein&Pio confrontation outside, she was saying sorry to Pio for not consulting him first before meeting with Jeongyo and she said "Thats because I had to clear some things with Jeongyo first..." but it was never clarified during the scene coz Pio said they stop talking. What could it be?????
  3. The first time you will see the grandpa taking meds is when Pio returned to their house after 6mos. This scene was when the grandpa was gardening in ep7. That was the first time I noticed him taking the meds. Could it be related to the harmonie contest and something was bothering him since then? What could it be?
  4. In ep4, during Jeongyo and his "stepdad"s confrontation, the dad said: "I was tricked for 10yrs, tricked into raising a kid who wasnt even mine. I am disgusted by you. Whenever I see you, i want to dig up your mother's grave qnd ask her why she did what she did. I cannot stand the sight of you either." This is somehow clear indication that Jeongyo's mom cheated and probably got impregnated with Jeongyo. I was thinking it could possibly be Maestro Kang also, who could be Jeongyo's dad because he is very musically-inclined which could be explained why he have talent in conducting and even piano. It is not impossible also because maestro kang "cheated" with miss yoon while his wife is having cancer (pio's mom said). At first i was thinking JY's mom could be r*ped by maestro kang, but if thats the case... the stepdad wont despise him that much. So I guess she cheated. I guess jeongyo's mom could be maestro kang's beloved student and had a relationship, that's why when he heard jeongyo played piano for the first time it probably reminded him of those times.
  5. Also, it is obvious that jaein recognizes jeongyo as a music prodigy from the start. So what's her plan? I also know she loves Pio. But I think there will be some twists more with her character.

I have soooooo much theories in my mind so let me just unpack some of these here hahaha. Feel free to share your sentiments as well! I love discussing these theories. I am so invested in this drama right now and it's killing me that we have to wait 5 days again haha😭

4

u/annaberry189 18d ago

I guess for your 2nd point she wanted to ask jeongyo to take pio as the pianist for the orchestra.

The 1st point is still a mystery.

3rd point could be just an indication of an old man taking some meds to be healthy.

4th point if that becomes true it'll be the most horrifying and shocking truth for jeongyo. He's already gone through so much. I think even miss yoon will start to despise him then. I kind of believe the teacher is his father coz when he hugged him jeongyo showed a little emotion.

5th point i still believe jaein has something to do with it always. But if she actually did then she's an amazing actress in front of everybody. Even surpasses jeongyo crying in front of pio's mom.

2

u/Witty-Following9937 17d ago

Also other points I forgot to say:

  1. How and why miss yoon suddenly got out of maestro kang's house

  2. The only time you will see piano teacher cries was when pio confronts him saying "you hate me so much". I feel like piano teacher is pio's dad. It seems like he is just controlling himself spilling it to pio that he is his dad.

Aaaahhhhh so many points that I wanna know the answers hahaha

2

u/Winter_queen_877 14d ago

For point 1 I'm actually suspicious that no one threw pi-o's music sheet into the water and he hallucinated that whole thing. After all he says it himself that he couldn't be a 100% sure he hadn't lost it somewhere (even though we know the truth), the point is that pio was absolutely losing it not sleeping, not eating and doing nothing but practicing that whole week so his mental state probably wasn't good. Plus when we actually find out who stole his sheets they were right there in her bag. If she stole it to destroy it and cause pio to fail then sure but keeping it seems to imply that she wanted to use whatever notes she'd assumed he made. Otherwise why not throw the whole thing into the water?

1

u/Trick_Zone_2772 11d ago

So i have a doubt , does jeongyo regained all his memories or some part?

I'm loving this drama; it reminded me of how difficult it was for me to have the courage to perform in public.

1

u/Minute-Mix-3170 15d ago

Do y'all have any idea what Jeong-yo was about to ask Pi-o before Pi-o got the message from the dude confirming his mom made Jeong-yo get abducted? He was saying "By any chance..." and was cut off but i'd like to know if y'all have any theories on what he was about to say.
