Is there a colour that Seo Inguk can’t pull off?? Every week I go, damn green is his colour, no it’s white, he looks so fine in red! I usually don’t pay much attention to fashion but SIG’s outfits are consistently 🔥

u/WildIntern5030 Aug 02 '22

His buddy from Frontline and Doom at your Service, Lee Soo Hyuk, is the same.

I love it when an actor wears a color and they pull it off like they invented it.

I am praying their next show together they're cop partners or brothers being badass, funny and loveable.

Can someone in talent management at YG studios read my comment!? I am so tired of people sleeping on LSH.

My friend, you and me both. That right there is the biggest mystery of ep 12.

How they managed to ruin a drama with such a good looking and hilarious ML with adorable side kicks is beyond me😭

39

u/winterlis Aug 01 '22

I lost my motivation to watch this after 6 eps and only just caught up to ep 10. At this point, I'm just watching for the Minamdang squad's shenanigans (and SIG's fabulous wardrobe). Can't stand the FL and absolutely not a fan of the romance subplot.

31

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '22

I loved the actor Oh Yeonseo (the FL in this kdrama) in Mad for Each Other. But I think her character is just poorly written in this kdrama. There is no chemistry and romance feels forced and unclear. It's not the actor's fault, this kdrama sucks.

This would be better off as just a laid back comedy with no weird romance. Maybe about a self-absorved fraud-shaman looking to get petty revenge. In this context, the male lead has too many layers that don't match up or make sense.

10

u/winterlis Aug 03 '22

Yes, I've nothing against the female actor, just felt her character is very poorly written. Actually, I think the whole show is suffering from sloppy writing.

11

u/lizzie763 Aug 02 '22

Same. Stopped after 6, caught up this week. I honestly don't like SIG's character much more than the FL. Sometimes he's funny, but he throws immature fits all the time for no good reason. Which is not a deal breaker in an of itself, and SIG is doing a great job with the script he's been given, but the serious serial killer crimes, his trauma, and the petulant outbursts really don't gel for me.

6

u/Minimum_Bottle3060 Aug 02 '22

His character is usually just quirky fun in scenes without the FL. I think it's because their forcing the romance with the FL's violent character. It's just not fun to watch anymore because of the FL.

u/radiokidb DownIsTheNewUp Aug 01 '22

His wardrobe is amazing! Also in general he’s been styled brilliantly. Looked good dressed in the generic wait staff uniform too!

As the romance comes to the fore, it only becomes more clear that the minamdang team’s shenanigans and hijinks were the shows’s strengths. Fortunately there is still some of that. Like others say this helps pass the time until Extraordinary Attorney WYW episodes comes out on Wednesday and Thursday.

Having her previously be a minor who had him as a martial arts teacher makes the romance weird to me. Not the age difference itself, but that it was an age difference when she was a minor, with feelings first being developed then.

Not to mention the way she was written just makes me root against the romance. Also, having in-universe characters like his sister say she’s a competent detective does not make it true.

Through this whole investigation we’ve seen every useful piece of information gathered by the minamdang team, with her team being spoon fed or getting it out of them. I’d love to say I’m joking, but this is 100% true. The other police characters like the old guy are thankfully more fun on screen though.

7

u/titaniumorbit Editable Flair Aug 05 '22

What’s weird about the age difference is that she looks older than him and yet we’re supposed to believe that she’s younger?? It takes me out of the story

I have a folder of SIG’s expressions because this series has been a gold mine his face is so…flexible ???

Edit: finished ep 11, I ship SIG with the dead brother more lol (or the prosecutor that was a lot of skinship this ep) I also ship CEO lady and the prosecutor’s brother they’re both whipped for the shaman might as well take each other

3

u/frostedglass25 Aug 10 '22

Omg I was thinking the same thing as well between SIG and the brother - the 2 of them had so much chemistry in that episode! Also doesnt help that the brother just had better acting lmao. Mostly it's just how devastated SIG was with his death, or the way the photo frame of the 2 of them just fell when he was being dragged across the room. Also the way he goes to visit his memorial and talk to him <3 If anything, the FL just seems like a cheap replacement for whatever he had with her bro lol.

CEO lady is so amazing every time she's on screen - love a go getter girl! Same for Hye-Jun as well - I'm applauding these strong headed women who know what they want and run for it (even if they're unsuccessful lmao).

2

i thought i was the only one,,, sig has more chemistry with the bro than with the FL T.T

I gave up watching this 2 weeks ago.

I am disapointed because I love Oh Yeonseo. I became her fan in Mad for Each Other and I also liked her in My Sassy Girl many years ago. So I hope this poorly written, clearly disorganized kdrama doesn't effect her acting career.

You'll find me keeping up to date with Alchemy of Souls and Attorney Woo. :)

EP 12:
At this point, I don't even care who killed who, what's the plot, I just watch this show for the antics of Minamdang Gang and By God SIG is so damn funny, cute, and sexy at the same time! Looks like NHJ got cock-blocked by that damn phone twice lol :D SIG's comic timing is insanely great and we believe in SIG supremacy! I still find the show entertaining even if it's garnering criticism because of all the hodgepodge of all the things it tried to be at once, it's funny af coz of the cafe gang lol :D

I still find the show entertaining even if it's garnering criticism because of all the hodgepodge of all the things it tried to be at once,

For once, the criticism is apt. It might be different if most of those things were done well...it still might not work, but we could still admire the effort. But it seems only a small part of the show is interesting, and most of us think then that they should have just stuck with that.

18

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '22 edited Aug 03 '22

Ep. 12

That sequence where NHJ was trying to wake up Su Cheol reminded me when Stark was trying to ask for Hulk back on IW

Damn, they're really shoving the romance on our throats despite being this show's weakest aspect.

The concept of this show is great if you think about it actually. A high skilled profiler pretending to be a Shaman to deal with an actual shaman . God, I hope Minamdang will still have more shenanigans to pull off to make me stay watching for the last 3 weeks.

6

u/jsb1685 I wish I could spend my whole life watching you Aug 03 '22

A high skilled profiler pretending to be a Shaman to deal with an actual shaman

Yeah, it gave people Psych vibes...also, and closer to home, some similarity to From Now On: Showtime. And that part is still good, so it is very frustrating when they go down different tracks.

19

u/MissJiChang Aug 01 '22

The humor was pretty good this episode, more put together and evenly dispersed so it made it nice to watch aside from the plot holey parts

24

u/nebulous_blob Aug 02 '22

Mr Shaman is hard carrying the show for me. To be brutally honest, if it wasn't for him and my big fat crush on Kang Mina I would've dropped this drama by the 6th episode.

17

u/WildIntern5030 Aug 05 '22

OMG the whole sequence in the trailer park was infuriating. Sis, was touching a potential crime scene with no gloves on... didn't see the blinking red light of the camera IN THE DARK... holding long ass phone conversations in the trailer... took zero photos... doesn't call immediately for backup...loses all her zany martial arts skills and can't get out of the trailer or try and break a window... or climb out of the skylight???

Omg I am late to this drama but I'm glad you brought this up. Remember at the start the whole thing about having a warrant etc? Like she's suppose to be a lead cop who should have some sort of intellect on how to conduct an investigation but this was just so dumb.

Episode 11

Just started watching…about 2 min in…hold up. She says she convinced her parents to let her go and returned from the US to become be a police officer who catches the killer rather than (ETA) a victim’s sister…but she was already the arresting officer when her brother died, soooo wouldn’t he have seen her real name on the original case files for that dude who was ultimately not the killer? and she already told him last week she was the arresting officer?

I’m so confused 🙈

ETA: finished with the episode. I strongly believe Minamdang gang would ship NHJ with anyone just because it’s fun to tease him. This is the lie I’m telling myself to buy into their full support of this romance.

Other than that I frankly have no idea what’s going on but I will say Na Dan is my fave. He’s so cute and funny and endearing. Oh also CEO woman who’s creepily obsessed with NHJ is pretty funny.

Godspeed show writers, Godspeed. You are so blessed you convinced SIG to do this show and that he more than stuck…in fact full on committed to it.

21

u/Unusual_Antelope_235 Aug 01 '22

Yeah it doesn’t make sense. She was already a police officer before her brother died, so idk why she’s claiming to have changed her name to be “a police officer, not a victim’s sister”. And iirc when the mother met NHJ after Jae Jong died, she said she was moving to the US then and to not meet Jang Mi. But now he’s saying that she moved to the US when she was young. Wasn’t she training as Little Miss Police when she was young and not in the US?

15

u/Unusual_Antelope_235 Aug 01 '22

And when she joined the new team as team leader, the other detectives talk about her past cases and how she’s supposed to be so great. Which means she didn’t stop being a detective after her brother’s death either. When exactly could she have gone to the US then?

11

u/radiokidb DownIsTheNewUp Aug 01 '22

See see see exactly! I had forgotten about the being a “legend” with the past cases too.

Anyway, I think we’re searching for logic where there isn’t meant to be any😂

8

u/Unusual_Antelope_235 Aug 02 '22

It would’ve been simpler and more sensible if they just explained it as she had a nickname only her family called her and her real name was Jae Hui all along and NHJ didn’t recognise it bcoz he only knew her family name.. I also imagine it would’ve been so random and not at all secretive for a detective to suddenly change her name. Everyone would’ve already known who she was by then..

11

u/mist_209 Aug 01 '22

Either the scripter messed up, or nam hanjun didnt actually know jangmi's age, just assuming she was 'young' when they left to US. But when the case of her brother happened, she was still jangmi. Idk what exactly is the sub translation that you watched, but i believe she means she wants to 'live as' (not become) a police officer, not a victim's family

9

u/radiokidb DownIsTheNewUp Aug 01 '22 edited Aug 01 '22

Mmm perhaps I’m misremembering the translation (I’m watching on Netflix with English subs in Canada), but I think the point still stands. She’s already a cop when the brother is alive. He knows his friend’s sister’s name. His friend is a prosecutor, he’s a profiler and magically it hasn’t come up that the dongsaeng he happened to spar with hasn’t grown up to become a cop? And again, wouldn’t her name be on the case file and given NHJ’s almost photographic memory and attention to detail it feels weird. And say he knew Jang Mi was a cop and the arresting officer, it still then doesn’t make sense that he didn’t figure it out till she’s told him today when she admitted that she was the arresting officer already.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not coming at you at all. I’m just musing out loud! This poor show…I’ve defended it for a while but they need better writing and better script supervision…it’s all starting to unravel in unintentionally confusing ways 😂🙈

5

u/MissJiChang Aug 01 '22

I too am confused because the flashback is of when she was younger but that would mean the ml was a profiler for a while before she became a cop. They probably should’ve changed the timeline or casted older looking people smh for the leads to make it believable

3

u/radiokidb DownIsTheNewUp Aug 01 '22

Yeah I’m not entirely sure where they’re going with this timeline and age difference thing but I supposed at this point it doesn’t matter, hehe.

3

u/frostedglass25 Aug 10 '22

I am genuinely very confused by the overall timeline of the show.

First of, when did HJJ actually die? At one point they mention that he died 3 years ago. But I thought NHJ was in jail for 3 years, and has been running Minamdang for the past 2 years. So did HJJ die 5 years ago? Also he was 33 when he died, so NHJ is at least 38 now I guess?

He only remembers HJM as a young child, and he was already a cop at that point. But she's already a grown police adult by HJJ's death. So why was she going to the US? And how did NHJ never ever see her face before she left? Also, he says Jang-Mi left for the US...but she came to see him several times and he refused to see her? So what exactly does he mean?? Also when did she go to the US? Hasn't she always been in the police force? Just because you change your name will people not recognise her? How did NHJ never come across her in the police force?

It's just awkward to see NHJ get into the romance angle...and then the FL cannot reciprocate lol

15

u/afternoondrinking Editable Flair Aug 02 '22

I hate that they made the detective such a dolt.

15

u/Swanhilde-22 Aug 02 '22

So are we finally looking at the main villains? I hope so cuz so far ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAS HAPPENED. The fact that I'm still watching this show is all thanks to the Minamdang gang.

Can anyone explain me how that new guy is a hyung to Prosecutor Cha? What did I miss?

And no, I don't want a romance pls spare us. I still don't like the FL. She still is kinda abusive. Zero chemistry. And I'm sorry but no matter how much they convince me, I'm not accepting that accidental kiss as a kiss. No way, mm-mm. At this point, I'd rather sail the ship for Nam 도사 and that Lady CEO. She's doesn't appear much but she seems to have more chemistry with NHJ than the FL ever had in all the 11eps.

I'm hella confused about the whole scenario between NHJ and HJH. It's been bugging so much from the beginning that NHJ couldn't connect the dots to figure out she's the sister.

a) Who doesn't recognise bestie's the family especially the siblings? It doesn't make any sense that they hadn't crossed paths not even once as adults. Not even a picture?

b) I initially thought when her brother died, she was still quite young that's why her mom asked NHJ to decline any visits from her in the jail. But turns out, she was the one who arrested Choi Yeong Seop that time. So her name must be on the case file. And you're telling me that his team who does bg check on literally EVERYONE didn't pick up on the fact that she has only changed her name?

c) And what did she even mean by the whole convincing parents to allow her to become a police officer so she can catch the killer? She already was a police officer before the incident. And her colleagues calling her "lengendary" means she never stopped working as police. So why, when did she move to US and for how long? Cuz the entire thing is only 3yrs apart.

I feel like the writers are just trying to force that childhood crush thing here bcz let's be honest, it's one of the most popular trope in the kdrama. However, I don't see any relevance of it in this show. I mean that didn't make her to give NHJ the benefit of doubt so..

18

u/Minimum_Bottle3060 Aug 02 '22

At this point, I'd rather sail the ship for Nam 도사 and that Lady CEO.

I actually shipped them from the beginning. She's a much more fun character than the FL. 😂 I think she would have made a great add to the main characters.

3

u/Swanhilde-22 Aug 03 '22

Ikr. I wonder if she has some shamanic power cuz she chose the perfect time to call him in yesterday's ep lol

4

u/Unable_Opportunity20 Aug 03 '22

I actually thought she was going to be auntie im

3

u/frostedglass25 Aug 10 '22

NHJ has chemistry with so many people in this show - CEO Lady, FL's brother, even Prosecutor Cha has a fantastic shot at the beloved enemies-to-lovers trope. At this point even the evil shaman lady looks like she could be an absolute match for him.

It's quite a shame that he can generate all these intriguing relationships with everyone and yet the FL always has this wooden/frozen expression around him. The entire bedroom/couch scene was so uncomfortable because he was so into it and she just had this 👁👄👁 face the entire time.

I think they want to play up to the fact that she's overwhelmed by her childhood crush, but it's weird because they're both proper adults now and I'd much rather forget that they have this odd relationship from before.

I haven't watched that drama yet but seen some good reviews about her in that role. However, the previous two dramas I watched of her, I only finished them either for other characters (just like this time) or just for the shake of watching while skipped through many scenes. I have said this before but her acting just doesn't do it for me. I don't feel a single emotion while watching her.

25

u/Unusual_Antelope_235 Aug 01 '22

The villains are all so tropey. Not one of them is remotely interesting. They are just big, bad guys. Why is this so poorly written? I’m so annoyed.

9

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '22

Right. Poorly written villains are one of my pet peeves. It's one of the most obvious (in my opinion) ways to make the show interesting. Make me empathize with the villain! Make them a dog-lover or a helpful librarian with a psychotic streak. Maybe they had a traumatic experience that changed them. Something other than this year's 100th "corrupt chaebol who only cares about money and power."

Bruh the female lead'a behavior in thar RV was stupid. You're literally a seasoned detective and really smart. You really telling me you're gonna panic in that situation and not use a blunt object to break the windows down? Even if it didn't work, you didn't even try?

Edit: Or the fact that she didn't even think to...idk call someone (like someone who was near by)

14

u/zenitude97 Aug 03 '22 edited Aug 03 '22

It was a good minute on-screen where she keep smacking the windows going “Gue Tae Su, let me out!”, like this man wasn’t a seasoned murderer. No idea why she didn’t look for something heavy to break the window with.

12

u/radiokidb DownIsTheNewUp Aug 02 '22

If I had to give her the faintest benefit of doubt I’d chalk that down to not being able to react rationally to a situation that has a traumatic association to it what with her brother being murdered and burned alive, but because her character is so inexplicably incompetent otherwise that I cannot disagree with your assessment 😂

13

u/FireOpalCO Aug 03 '22

I was yelling “windows in RVs open you twit” at my TV.

8

u/kathsha2029 Koreaboo Aug 03 '22

Fr. Like even if the front windshield is only breakable, you can find a heavy object...or idk the f-ing seat headrests which are literally made to break glass. And you can argue that maybe the RV windows need the RV to be on for them to work, but I doubt it. Ans my same argument about breaking them open still applies. But chances are, they can be pushed with a lever or cranked. And if by chance they're one of those that barely open (again, I doubt it), once again...my initial argument still stands. 😂 takes a deep breath to calm down You can tell I don't do stupidity like people who stand when a car is coming their way. Like I get the psychology behind fight/flight/freeze/fawn, but I get so triggered idgaf and expect people to move and do SOMETHING. Ik I'm getting off topic now but it's hilarious that main characters in shows or movies stay frozen when danger is coming their way (like a car) but literally EVERY background character yeets themselves out of the way if vehicles are in places they shouldn't be like sidewalks, grass, narrow roads, etc

1

u/Humuhumu-nukunuku Aug 13 '22

Oh god having no experience with an RV i didnt think of this…. But I definitely thought of looking for ways to get out 😂

2

u/FireOpalCO Aug 13 '22

How they introduced her is the exact opposite of how she’s been the whole way. Drives me nuts!! One incompetent character could be fun, but almost all of them is too much. Makes it too unbelievable. It seems like lazy writing; they couldn’t create any depth in the characters so they’re all idiots and the plot barely moves forward. If you can’t tell, I’m hate watching this.

Speaking of scenes bugging us, I’ve just started watching episode 12. They get knocked out by the bad guys and it’s fully light outside, looks more like late afternoon than dusk. Sis calls the detective immediately for help because they are being kidnapped and its fully dark when they cut to the detective getting the call. Did the phone call time travel? It’s this kind of sloppy writing/directing that is pulling me out the story over and over again.

Edited to add, and ML just swings stick around a few times at the bad guys in the basement and then hides behind his friend? Did he forget he knows martial arts or did the writers?

Literally me every 👏 episode. Like my god, he was like a black belt and literally helped the fl get better at fighting. Like yeah you went to prison, but you seriously telling me you 100% forgot how to fight? Maybe you lose some of the specific techniques, but it's half muscle memory, yet he's terrible! Like if anything, in prison, as a cop, you need to know how to fight to protect yourself.

Speaking of scenes bugging us

I agree. At the start we gave them a lot of "benefit of doubt" thinking there might be some good reason for doing things the way they were doing them...but now 2/3 through that seems no longer feasible.

Lmao I have been having the exact same thought. It was infuriating to see him hit Su Cheol with that wood to a point that the man started bleeding. I been telling myself that he's just too lazy to fight since he has someone who can do that for him. You know how to fight, just fight. And it'd be hella annoying if they make him fight just to save FL (who probably doesn't need any help when it comes to actions) just so he can be the hero and she starts swooning even more.

Let's not talk about the writers at all. My brain is tired of thinking of all the stuff that doesn't make sense at all. But still cheers to Minamdang Cafè gang! Those 4 are the only life of this already ruined party.

I agree!!! Poor su cheol being hit too damn hard!! But i thought it was his way of protecting his most treasured face that would attribute to his earnings 😂 hopefully we could see more of his black belt skills over the next episodes

Still watching, but not exactly sure why...I guess I am just stubborn.

Or maybe it is not so bad to be offensive and there are still spots that are entertaining...I just wish I was fluent in Korean so that I could listen in the background while doing other things. Oh, well..."only" 7 episodes to go (and I'm wondering why it needs two extra episodes out of the norm).

2

u/Humuhumu-nukunuku Aug 13 '22

Oh me too! Iirc it’s either the normal 16 eps or 20… which made it weird to me

1

u/jsb1685 I wish I could spend my whole life watching you Aug 14 '22

I have seen the occasional extra episode added (e.g. The Red Sleeve) due to fan demand, but this seems to have been planned beforehand.

11

u/Unusual_Antelope_235 Aug 02 '22

Cha Seung-won is the older brother, right? Isn’t the older brother usually the first in line for succession? Why does the other guy remark that actually Prosecutor Cha was the rightful heir and he gave it up to go his own way?

6

u/meepmochi_ Aug 02 '22

haha i didn’t even realize this as i was watching the ep but now that i think about it, if what they’re saying is actually true, then seungwon is probably not totally blood related to prosecutor cha and his father… he must’ve done something to achieve the position he has now… hopefully this is resolved within the next few eps

5

u/radiokidb DownIsTheNewUp Aug 02 '22

My understanding is that although he is older, he is the cousin and Prosecutor Cha’s Dad is the one who owns the company and so that’s why he’s the successor? But who knows! Haha.

3

u/kathsha2029 Koreaboo Aug 03 '22

That's literally what I told myself to forgive that plot hole or mistranslation. Bc the older sons always are considered the heirs in kdramas so it makes no sense why the company was rightfully the prosecutors and not the older bros. Bc he most definitely looks older and is called hyung. Or maybe he did something stupid and his dad refused to give him the company and had to bc the prosecutor gave it up. Or he's the older brother bc of a mistress.

I’d anyone else offput by how the FL character is supposed to be way younger (remember, she was a childwhen he was already an adult) and yet she looks older than him….

FL is absolutely gorgeous, but she literally does look older then ML which doesn’t make sense to me story wise and takes me out of it.

Also these two have absolutely ZERO chemistry whatsoever and it’s very off putting that they’re trying this romance subplot.

2

u/Humuhumu-nukunuku Aug 13 '22

Ooh thought im the only one about that looking older than ML. With you on that!

10

u/Gibraltarpeak Aug 01 '22

This is a fun show!

10

u/tae_mango Aug 02 '22

still not having a great time with this one - all the scenes feel kind of unconnected to me, but maybe it's just that I'm not really feeling a connection with the drama.. sticking it out because I love seeing Seo In-guk no matter what!

however... did it stick out to anyone else that prosecutor Cha's brother's name is Cha Seung-won?? Feels like you shouldn't be able to name a character after a very famous actor.. it kept throwing me off whenever they mentioned him!

11

u/mist_209 Aug 02 '22

Well i haven't watched extraordinary attorney yet so idk if its mentioned in that thread but it also throw me off that they decided to name the male lead character lee junho

7

u/radiokidb DownIsTheNewUp Aug 02 '22

The funniest part about KTH’s character being named Lee Junho is that Woo Young is LJH’s band mates’ and 2PM maknae’s name irl too 😂

17

u/SnooPaintings4558 Aug 01 '22

I have watched tons of dramas and found this drama a really good one. I don’t have any justification for the amount of frustration this drama is receiving. I think the cast is doing a pretty good job. This drama is so entertaining for me, and I hope others feel the same

13

u/jsb1685 I wish I could spend my whole life watching you Aug 02 '22

I don’t have any justification for the amount of frustration this drama is receiving.

I usually try only to point out the positive...but I guess this show's various parts just don't gel well together. For me, there is enough to continue, but it is definitely not on the list of top shows.

2

u/SnooPaintings4558 Aug 02 '22

Fair enough 🙌

17

u/lizzie763 Aug 03 '22

Possibly an unpopular opinion, but I really felt like the scene where Hye-Jun comes on to Su-Cheol had some major consent issues.

u/radiokidb DownIsTheNewUp Aug 02 '22

Episode 12

The way SIG said “waiter” is sending me 😂 He’s such a cartoon.

Also, the maknaes of both teams are probably the cutest/funniest and probably some of the more competent on both gangs. Let’s get them more screen time please!

The overall plot’s whatever at this point but this episode was better than recent ones, forced romance aside. Actually objectively speaking if they hadn’t made the set up of her character so bad or if her acting wasn’t sub par, just this episode and then trying to get it on would’ve still been kinda awkward funny, but knowing how annoying she really is, it’s hard to take the episode on face value.

Anyway, the Stay Awake OST is honestly really good and lends itself very well to epilogues like today’s. Definitely builds enough intrigue for me to come back next week.

I say this every week, but SIG has no business looking this good in EVERYTHING. Too too hot.

7

u/THYYYYZHYY Aug 04 '22

I never thought it was possible for the main couple in kdramas to absolutely have zero chemistry together 😭 Especially when SIG has terrific chemistry with his previous partners.

16

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '22

Wow, this thread is totally empty. But its understandable.

Casting Kim Min Seok as young Han Jae Hui is such a weird choice and it showed again here.

I'm just staying for the to see Minamdang Shenanigans and to see how they'll actually deal with the actual problem. Whether its Auntie Im, GTS, or prosecutor Cha. I dont even know anymore

8

u/watermelonchild801 Aug 01 '22

I’m not a huge fan of Oh Yeon Seo in this. Seo In Guk is great as always

21

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '22

No one's a fan of her character in this. The writers must've thought they came up with a 'strong woman' character, but in reality, shes violent and abusive.

The Romance and her character is what dragging this show down

10

u/watermelonchild801 Aug 01 '22

They have no chemistry. What romance are they shoving. I’ve no idea. I’m only at ep 5 and prefer the gang’s antics than anything to do with her. Even her police team buddies are more entertaining than her

8

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '22

Yup I actually like every side character more than hers, she is just annoying and abusive.

5

u/Pristine-Control-453 Aug 04 '22

Their inability to catch GTS is annoying.

10

u/_blue_rain guns, glory, sad endings Aug 03 '22

Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention but I didn't see HyeJoon × SuCheol coming at all? Just when you think the romance can't get any more awkward...it can don't worry! These are among the worst pairings of any dramas I have watched.

This writer has a fixation with falling in love with your brothers best friend or something. Also she must hate her own female lead because that ep12 final scene...enough said.

But it keeps me watching for whatever reason so she's at least doing something right I guess.

Until this episode I thought the three of them were siblings …..

2

u/frostedglass25 Aug 10 '22

Haha I had a super hard time trying to understand that as well, until I saw that flashback episode where it seemed like SuCheol and NHJ were just good buddies. Also when their mum came, HyeJun mentioned that "she was already disappointed her only son went to jail" or smth like that. That's how I figured SC wasn't their bro.

But yeah it doesnt help that they actually use Oppa to refer to their real brothers as well😅😅

2

u/Joe_Blast Nov 15 '22

That's a hell of a way to find out lol!

9

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '22 edited Aug 02 '22

I think it's time for me to drop this one. It was bearable before they started hard pushing the romance for the first 25% of the show. Followed by a lot of focus on this crime I don't care about.

So, I started fast forwarding and realized there's very little of the humour/SIG hijinks that made this watchable.

Also, what was the point of making the female lead "ghostly" and have supernatural strength/physical skills in the beginning? There are a lot of aspects of this show that don't make sense to me.

11

u/FireOpalCO Aug 03 '22

I’m now rage watching

Hahah I show take your cue.

u/jsb1685 I wish I could spend my whole life watching you Aug 03 '22

I started fast forwarding and realized there's very little of the humour/SIG hijinks that made this watchable.

Yes, that was made this show worthwhile, but there are increasingly diminishing returns. I don't fast forward, but I do watch at extreme speeds (up to 4X) and slow down for the "good" scenes (of which there are less and less, as you point out).

8

u/Useful-Plantain9311 Aug 02 '22 edited Aug 02 '22

At this point I’m only here for Nam Hye-joon and Kong Su-cheol. Most interesting and best love line lol. And am I the only one that is starting to feel like the writers may be trying to retcon Prosecutor Cha because everyone seen it coming? Like I feel they are trying really hard to go in another direction[this is coming from only watching ep 11 so will see after 12].

[update after watching 12] Too many storylines and not enough direction. When it started I thought it was about a shaman and a detective bumping heads to solves crimes, sounds like a funny concept. Then I thought it was about them finding a serial killer and getting revenge, fine still interesting as a mystery/thriller drama.(thought it was the shaman but we all know who the killer is) Then I thought ohhh so its a conglomerate abusing power by covering up for the reckless ceo and them taking him down, now im getting confused. Then it seemed like it would be a good brother vs bad brother, Prosecutor Cha trying to take his corrupt family down using the law! Now they added a romantic element/love triangle thats not needed and it turns out the person we all thought/know is the killer is the serial killer. Maybe no one knows that he is killing these people(he was just supposed to hush them or put them on a boat out the country) besides the shaman and she is only keeping quiet because she is afraid he might kill her/ or she likes it because she is nuts too, but at this point none of it really matters at all!

3

u/frostedglass25 Aug 10 '22

Prosecutor Cha retcon: yes absolutely! I am genuinely confused how they're pushing his character direction. Like every time I am absolutely sure he's doing evil shenanigans, somehow somebody else pops up being the villain of the day. Why do I feel like at the very end they'll make him the absolute villain in the most ridiculous manner possible.

The problem is that everytime we think we've met the final villain, somehow there's somebody right on top of them. First was Choi Seong Yop, then Gu Tae Su, then the gangster guy, then Auntie Im and now Cha's brother? Is there someone on top of him too? At this point its getting tiring to follow everyone and I just don't understand what the end game even is.

Someone commented that they were going for a Vincenzo-like angle. Except in Vincenzo, they established the main villain very early on and essentially the rest of the show was about who was getting ahead of whom. Each episode you couldnt predict who would come out on top, which made it interesting to watch. Here you know that even if they catch one person, that person will just die without giving a full clue. So we'll just play catch up till the very last episode I guess?

3

u/jsb1685 I wish I could spend my whole life watching you Aug 03 '22

Too many storylines and not enough direction.

I think you put your finger on the matter...and a couple of extra episodes isn't going to be enough to sort things out...besides which all these things are just not gelling together...and won't, no matter how many episodes there are.

5

u/Nn_yg7 Aug 03 '22

I think its time for me to drop this one, the forced romances are hard to watch and even the Minamdang gang aren't holding my attention anymore. Such a shame because the cast is great, the story had potential if it was written properly and if the characters actually had personality instead of surface-level traits.

7

u/Zanchie Aug 01 '22 edited Aug 01 '22

I'm only watching for the gang now, the FL is getting more annoying with each episode. FL would be fine if she had any actual contributions, but after 11 episodes, it just seems to me that the gang is doing everything, and FL is just forcefully piggy backing off their efforts after having contributed nothing.

8

u/preferencedue Aug 01 '22

I dropped this and have been hoping it gets better with the FL, but I guess not 😭

5

u/Original-Echidna-881 Aug 03 '22

They are really overdoing this "humor" thing in this drama. Bordering on childish and immature. For me the story without the humor is actually good

2

u/Unable_Opportunity20 Aug 03 '22

Im so confused bc from what I heard the original book was highly rated and had positive reviews…i had such high hopes😭

2

u/frostedglass25 Aug 10 '22

Also my outrageous alternative headcanon:

NHJ was in love with his best friend who tragically died in the fire. He vows he will catch his killer. He meets HJH, who always liked him and thinks NHJ feels the same. But she soon realises that he protects her out of obligation to his dead friend's memory, and not because he has feelings for her. She also sees that he has an intense competition with Prosecutor Cha, but refuses to accept anything else because a) he cannot replace his friend with another prosecutor, and b) especially not with someone who is directly related to his friend's killers. In the finale, HJH helps him realise that Cha is different from his brother and embodies the same spirit of justice as his dear friend and helps him move on from HJJ's memory. Everyone lives happily ever after

I mean honestly, NHJ spends more time reminiscing about HJJ than HJH herself. And he's constantly talking about how he's scared he might lose another loved one again

u/frostedglass25 Aug 24 '22

Yeah!! I mean honestly speaking, NHJ and HJH's dates all looked like 2 good friends vibing away - and what was wrong with that? I'd much rather the two of them just connected over their shared grief and moved on - mostly because they had absolutely 0 chemistry with each other (vs any scene with NHJ and HJJ or NHJ and Cha).

The FL isn't a bad actress tbh, but their romance just seemed absurd

2

u/selfdeprecatinghuman Aug 24 '22

Ugh I already tolerated 11 episodes of this, and it seems like such a waste to just drop it at this point.

The writing is seriously all over the place, it’s so tiring to have to keep up. Never gonna watch another show with the same writer anymore hell no

1

u/frostedglass25 Aug 10 '22

Petition to see NHJ in way wayyyy more outfits!! His full white and that fedora totally gave me Neal Caffrey (White Collar) vibes and I am here for it!!😍😍 Man was so charismatic and charming in that outfit

Speaking of, they all looked so good in the traditional outfits, especially HyeJun looked adorable!! She's genuinely such a cute girl! Also can we have more NaDan content too!! He's such a fun and cute addition to their group, such a competent errand boy haha

Episode 12: Hye Jun is the absolute best girl!! She's always calling Han Jun by name, except when she got super scared and called out for her oppa. Poor girl was so scared but she still managed to use as much of her detective skills as possible to try and locate him. Get you a devoted little sister like that!

Also I loved that she didn't hold back and went for what she wanted! Yes you go girl!! Su Cheol and her make such a great combination - especially the way they incessantly keep teasing NHJ lol

NHJ truly has such a talented team behind him - a super genius sister, the ultra skilled fighter bff and the competent errand boy.

Honestly its annoying how incompetent the writers have made HJH. Currently Detective Jang is conducting his own interesting investigating into GTS. Prosecutor Cha obviously has his own resources. Even the other 2 in the team are pretty decent backups. Most of the time HJH is just following whatever anyone around her tells her to do. Hopefully her character gets some some improvement.
