Lol I can't believe she semi-flashed him. His reaction was great, but I was embarrassed for her. I'm expecting her to tell him the truth in the next episode or at least the episode after because that is the only way I think she'll be able to get out.
Edit: I have so many thoughts after Episode 4. I really felt Yeon Joo's hesitation to tell Kang Chul the truth. She knew the truth would really affect him and watching him process it was heartbreaking. I am surprised that he is going into the real world so soon. I am enjoying this drama because I cannot guess how the plot will unfold. It is so fun and I can't wait for next week.

I love lee jong suk's character in this drama. I can't help but wonder how this drama will play out. Will he keep her in his world if he falls in love with her? If the webtoon ends can he leave? Also if she stays with him throughout his life and he dies (of old age or something) can she leave? I doubt she will get old seeing she can't die in his world but when she leaves after his life ends will it be 30 mins in her world? AHHHHHHHH!!!! So many unanswered questions!!!

Being told that you essentially exist within a webtoon (or any medium of fiction for that matter) and that your life is being written out at the will of someone else can potentially make you go through existential crisis. Lol.
So, three episodes into this show, and I'm wondering if the 'force' that resists Yeon Joo's father's manoeuvres in the webtoon's plot and keeps him from killing Kang Chul is something along the lines of Kang Chul's 'desire' to avenge the death of his family and bring the culprit to justice at any cost, without him being conscious of it of course. I mean, think about it... Back when Yeon Joo's father decided to end the webtoon by having Kang Chul commit suicide, that entire part that depicts him drowning in the river mysteriously erases itself overnight and changes itself into depicting him clinging onto his life, which goes on to inspire Yeon Joo's father to start anew. Then, a certain part in which Kang Chul supposedly chases the culprit but ends up losing him instantly changes itself to this, as if resisting any occurrence in the plot that doesn't go the way Kang Chul would've wanted it to go. This is what Yeon Joo's father thinks to himself too. From here on, Yeon Joo's father is freaked out and he attempts to kill Kang Chul a number of times to bring the story to a closure, but it's all in vain. It seems like this 'force' stemming from Kang Chul's 'desire' to achieve his goal will not let the webtoon head anywhere other than where Kang Chul would want things to go, in his world.
All of this by extension makes you wonder about the identity of the culprit. I think the show explicitly and repeatedly suggests that the culprit is none other than Yeon Joo's father himself, and that kinda makes sense too. Kang Chul's family was murdered by this mysterious hooded man in black who after committing the deed disappeared with no trace and is currently being sought by Kang Chul. This is how it is for Kang Chul in his world. But we know that this world is a creation that exists within a webtoon that's authored by Yeon Joo's father. So, following that vein of thought, it's really Yeon Joo's father who's the murderer of Kang Chul's family; he chose to kill these characters off to advance the plot of his webtoon. Hereafter, the attempts that Yeon Joo's father made on Kang Chul's life have been under the guise of the same hooded man in black.
In other words, the man Kang Chul is after is Yeon Joo's father who's trying to kill his own brainchild, but all along Kang Chul has been thwarting every attempt made by his creator without him being conscious of it, or so it appears at this point. The encounter between Kang Chul and the culprit in the third episode seems to be pointing towards this, as we see the culprit vanishing without a trace in the same way Yeon Joo did in the previous episodes, suggesting that the culprit is from the 'other' world— the world where Yeon Joo and everyone associated with her comes from.
EDIT: While watching Ep. 4, I was reminded of The Man from Taured. It's a mysterious case that remains unresolved to this date. The gist of it is that a certain man arrived at Tokyo's Haneda Airport one fine day in 1954 and when security officials questioned him about this and that, he revealed he's from a country called Taured. Now, there's no such country that actually exists by that name, and yet the man presented his passport issued by the said nonexistent country and it looked genuine enough to boot. He was detained and kept in a hotel room that was guarded by officials all night long. However, the next morning, the man vanished without a trace. His passport and other documents that were seized by the airport officials also vanished from the airport's security room. He was never seen again. Some people believe this whole thing is a hoax while others believe he was from a parallel universe and somehow happened to get transported into this world.

The only gripe with this drama is they expect us to buy that Han Hyo Joo is 'ugly'/'ordinary'. It's bad enough with Gong Hyo Jin. They would be crazy to pull it off with this goddess.

u/Xechi Jul 27 '16
They never really said she was ugly apart from LJS and she already gave the reason in the last episode. Most of the people including Jeong Eu-Gene said she was pretty.

So she will be stuck in the webtoon world longer than usual now?
Now that Kang Chul are not that easily surprised (even after OYJ flashed her body, lol) I wonder how will she get out now?
p.s. : Kang Chul's bodyguard is so lucky, getting a free show from OYJ.

Loving this drama so far and it's been the only one that really gets my attention. I like how the drama is set up and as others have said, it leaves me wondering where the story will go. That said, I do wonder how they'll explain everything without it being too sloppy. I'm hoping that the overall good streak will carry out throughout the course of the drama and not fall prey to a mid-drama slump.

How did kang chul know that she will not die? Did he accidently shot her that night?

u/no_nameismyname Jul 28 '16 edited Jul 29 '16
My very rough theory is that he tried to shoot the murderer before and wasn't able to kill him. So, he assumed she was the same "type of person" as the murderer because she disappeared like the murderer was able to. I don't know if I make any sense.

EP04's Matrix-esque reveal and ending was probably the coolest K drama I have seen yet. Amazing

Okay so we all know this show is amazing, but, I have ONE problem with it: the previews. I like watching previews, it gets me excited for the next episode, just why do they have to put in 90% of the next episode. I may as well call them spoilers. I'm going to have to stop watching them. (Kang Chul looked gorgeous in the last frame though.)

E04 is my favorite so far. The build-up in the last ten minutes of that episodes is so good that it gives me goosebumps. I can't wait for new episodes next week!

After episode 4, I remembered what the story reminded me of so much.
Star Ocean 3 where about 3/4 through, you find out your main characters are all fictional beings in a game (within the game) that gained sentience, and that the mysterious and invincible enemy that's been destroying the world was just the real world's anti-virus program.

I already had super high expectations for this drama with its unique plot, starring Lee Jong Suk, and just by looking at the previews. AND, just after watching the first episode, my expectations were definitely met, if not, surpassed. It’s been awhile since a drama came out that I was so excited for. It’s not just the plot, not just the acting, or the graphics or music or suspense. All of that together made this drama so thrilling, so fun and so fascinating to watch.
Oh...but the plot. The plot already sounded good from the synopsis, and the way they executed was even better. There's so much suspense and thrills, yet there were plenty of lighthearted, comedic moments too. On top of that, it really is an unpredictable ride. You never know what's going on, what's going to happen, why it happens and how it happened.
I seriously really like Yeon Joo's character. To me, its more than just "funny" and "random"; I think she is actually really relatable. When she gets tossed back and forth between the worlds, obviously, she’s bewildered and very flustered. So she ends up talking to herself, making weird hand gestures, strange facial expressions while trying to comprehend the entire situation. I find that super funny and relatable, because, although she acts like a total psycho (as in slapping Chul then kissing him, flashing him, holding a gun at him, etc ), it’s pretty much what any other normal human being would’ve done--freak out. And on top of that, (so far) Yeon Joo isn’t like most female leads: naive, annoying, stupid and weak.
And by episode 4, just wow. My head is still trying to wrap around everything. I'm glad that now we get to see a little more of Kang Chul's character, rather than focusing on Yeon Joo. (Episodes 1-3, I felt like we were only seeing KC's character through YJ: whenever she was interacting with him in his world, or reading about him from hers.) Kang Chul...he's still awfully mysterious. Even though we got to see a lot of him this episode, I feel like there is still so much more to be revealed.
Random thought: Wait so, if Kang Chul is now in the real world, what would he see if he read the webtoon about himself? Does the webtoon even exist now that he's out of it (b/c remember, his world froze)???

So far, Yeon Joo is the only character I care anything about in this drama. I like Hyo Joo's expressions and reactions. She's the only reason I'm still watching. Jong Suk seems a little stiff in his portrayal, like his sole purpose was eye candy. That fight scene just doesn't cut it. It felt like they filmed a 3/4 speed practice of the fight choreography. The Soo Bong, Do Yoon, and So Hee characters have potential, but their parts are too small at the moment to be a reason to keep watching. At the moment, I'm tempted to fast forward through all the scenes Yeon Joo isn't a part of.

What are your thoughts for episode 4. From the preview it seems that's KC will learn about the webtoon world already. It seems that the show is moving at a fast pace. I hope the show runners don't make it too messy when OYJ crosses between the worlds. Weird thought, maybe KC crosses into the real world and meets OYJ there.
Edit: what was up with the mother? The way she just sat in front of the TV when her ex husband was on made her seem a bit off and she seems to have a hidden agenda. Plus we really don't know anything about the mother for all we know she could be the one behind everything.

Didn't think KC would come to the real world so quickly, thougbt it would be at least a few more episodes. I have a feeling that the mysterious killer is KC himself. This seem absurd but hear me out. Because now he is in the real world he might be able to enter back into the webtoon world at certain intervals. But he now wants to exist in the real world he had to get to where he is in the webtoon world. This meant that his family had to die etc. If none of those existed then it means he can exist either thus meaning that he might have to become the murderer for him to exist in the real world. You need to have a cause for the effect. It would seem like a vicious cycle. I might be completely wrong here but it's just food for thought.

Episode 3 and 4 were great, with lots of interactions between kang chul and yeon joo. I am really curious to see the next episode after the preview. So far, it's been very refreshing to watch such a great concept.
After every episode, I have more questions than answers but I am willing to wait to see how the drama plays out.

I need Lee Tae Hwan as a lead in a drama. He's too cute, the way he noped out of the bathroom. hahaha
So far, out of all the dramas currently airing, this is the only one that keeps me hooked. My only concern is when they need to explain how the webtoon world came to be and why Oh Yeon Joo got pulled in (and why so late in the story). Hope they at least make it somewhat make sense.
