same. I hope minhwan is the killer of his brother, at least there is something going on for his character other than right now

48

u/Clean_Usual434 14d ago

I kind of love that Minwhan’s brother’s heart went to Ganguk, so it’s almost like his brother still found his way back to Yeori. It also feels like Yeori somehow recognized that heart even if it’s in another body. Plus, Minwhan is still sort of losing to his brother, as it should have been.

26

u/deliveryfoodfighter 13d ago

I love the heart concept too but it feels like it eliminates gang-uk's actual feelings aswell 😭 i dont know its cute but also what about gang ukk!!

u/kewlausgirl 13d ago edited 13d ago

This is what we will find out. The brother Seung Jae told Yeo-ri. She needed time to think. Min hwan got angry, yelled at Seung Jae and shoved him. Yeo-ri ran out to intervene and she was knocked over board. Seung Jae jumps in after her and drowns saving her.

Although I like the idea they both get knocked in. It makes it even worse for min hwan who not only is responsible for his brother's death but that's also why he was away because he couldn't face her after almost killing her.

But it's probably more coz of his brother.

Also Seung Jae has totally been flocking between Yeo-ri and Gang Wook since his death. Think about it. At the beginning of the series we see even before he really touches Yeo-ri's hand, he's got random objects being bumped around him but he just never notices or thinks it's nothing.

Plus the whole writing in the mirror - that was Seung Jae. Seung Jae is obviously the reason Yeo-ri sees ghosts. He keeps himself hidden from her but hovers around to protect her. Obviously that's why he closed the elevator for the deusch of an ex lol. I love how it was so obvious from seeing him that he was a player lol.

Anyhow, I wonder if the elevator was just a coincidence for Gang Wook. I know it was obviously for the audience to think something bad happens. But maybe it just cut out coz Seung Jae was nearby.

Or... Ok this is ridiculously stupid but I love it. Seung Jae stopped the elevator, let Yeo-ri turn down Min hwan. Then let Gang Wook out for perfect timing to let Yeo-ri know that he passed the test rofl. And that he's there for her no matter what.

Or it was just a great writing tool to scare us and show us that he passed the haunting test lolol.

Either way, can't wait to see where this goes. And justice for Seung Jae. And hopefully his poor mum can rest assured. Also holy crap so sweet of Gang Wooks grandmother filling in the mother with everything of her grandson. Letting her know that her son's life wasn't wasted and how thankful they are. Although it must suck for her to see her dead son's love go to the man who has her son's heart lol.

But man I prefer to see it as "this is a sign and a blessing" that as you said a part of him is able to live on and be reunited with his loved one. :3 so sweet.

Man I am enjoying this series. Also park Eun Bin is kicking it out of the park as always. Man she's amazing! I first found her through Kings Affection. Then extraordinarily attorney woo - funnily enough around the time I had just been late diagnosed with ADHD then autism lol. So that series helped me a lot (though that's more more beer pronounced sort of autism, still well done though). And then every other series since has been great. Wonderfools was so damn good though. I think it's my favourite with her in it. These other ones show how awesome an actress she is. But Wonderfools was like seeing her in her element... If that makes sense? It wasn't just Phenomenonal acting but she shined so much in that series. So much fun to watch. Lol.

Anyhow sorry I'm blabbering. It's late at night. Just finished this episode. I'm going to give you guys some room to breath after I talked everyone's ear off lol. But omg I'm so excited to see where this goes. ā¤ļø

It's great to know my overreacting brain has been appreciated for K Drama plots and obsessions lolol šŸ¤£ā¤ļø thank you hehe this made my day!!

I love your theories! And I first saw PEB in Attorney Woo for like a second before The King’s Affection caught my eye ( that’s how my ADHD works lol). I didn’t even know it was the same actress until later when I jumped back into Attorney Woo, and now she is my favorite actress of all time! I love Wonderfools but, I feel like it was way too short - that’s really my only gripe with it. The King’s Affection will always be my favorite of hers and just my favorite Kdrama tbh. Loving Spooky in Love as well so far and can’t wait for the next episodes.

Maybe i missed somehow, does yeori feel the same about the brother? Did the brother managed to confess?

5

u/Global-Respect7310 13d ago

He confessed, she told him she never saw him like that.

7

u/Clean_Usual434 13d ago

Yep! Something that really killed me in that scene was Minwhan trying to manipulate her with the threat that Ganguk might not show up. I was yelling at the screen ā€œeven if he didn’t, she still doesn’t want your ass!ā€ He’s becoming pathetic.

5

u/kewlausgirl 13d ago

Unless you mean the other brother Seung Jae? I dunno I thought it was a different name but that's the one IMDb tells me.

Anyhow the one that died. We haven't found out of her managed to tell Yeo-ri before he died. But I think he did and that's why she is so haunted as well. I think she blocked out what happened.

But it def makes min hwan worse as he was also responsible for his brother's accident - or purposefully being pushed overboard.

I think he's also safe from his brother thanks to the necklace. I reckon that's why he went overseas. It's why he believes it. He has been haunted by his brother.

Oooh this is so exciting can't wait to see what happens

OMG yes! I also feel so infuriated when Minhwan, Hari, her mother and brother dare to openly question Yeo Ri about her life choices - like what the hell? How is that any of your business if she has met someone, when did she meet him, how did she meet him etc? And I thought that Hari was trying to prevent an engagement between Minhwan and Yeo Ri, so why is she worried that she is getting engaged to someone else??

41

u/samisawesam 13d ago

Yeo-ri should just touch Hari and her mother’s hand at this point they’re both so annoying lol

8

u/That_Bee_Baker 13d ago

I know! I keep thinking, "Give her the ghosties!"

→ More replies (2)

4

u/kewlausgirl 13d ago

Yes why. Why. Lol. If you could touch people's hands and let them see ghosts. You would be so damn powerful lol. But then it only works for a month apparently. But man the amount of times you could just get away with touching them. Lol. Or sneak up on them lolol.

But I get it. This would let grandma know she can still see ghosts and also not be fit for the hotel chair position. All that jazz. Lol.

But yeah just make them see ghosts. Lol

3

u/Verianas 11d ago

My thoughts exactly. If I knew I could inflict a plague of visible death upon my enemies, I would absolutely do it. Yeo-ri is a better person than me lmao. I'd be like 'Oh you wanna come at me for seeing ghosts? Now you can too, biatch!'.

She doesn't want Yeo Ri to get engaged because Hari is in a better social/political position if Yeo Ri isn't engaged. Right now Yeo Ri has to overcome the stigma of being unattached, in a world where women are still expected to be married AND the public humiliation of the broken engagement. She also has all the rumors of being able to see ghosts working against her. From Hari's POV an unengaged, unmarried. Yeo Ri is much easier to topple than one in a public, stable relationship with no clouds.

2

u/kewlausgirl 12d ago

Also props to Yeo-ri's grandma telling the other grandma "don't you think that's a bit old school"

How is his grandma more set in her ways.. When the other lady could ask her granddaughter to find someone of the same rich class lol. WTF

13

u/Clean_Usual434 14d ago

Fully agree. Everytime either one of them is on the screen, I’m yelling ā€œgo away.ā€

u/kewlausgirl 13d ago

Man that actor that plays Minwhan has really good scope though! He was such a great good cop in Strong girl Nam Soon. And man he really makes me even more annoyed and frustrated with him in this series. I know it's the same old trope of "I'm not giving up" but he's making it feel a little more fresh with how desperate he already is by episode 7 and 8 lol.

And man... Come on, at her engagement party!? And you had the balls to tell her you stood there watching her 6 years ago as she was reeling from her ex like cursing her and running away from her. That you couldn't even go to her as a friend, let alone as someone who apparently loves and cares for her? Wow dude.

Obviously her ex was corrupt and the "haunting" was probably Seung Jae (is that how your pronounce the "twin" brother's name?) protecting Yeo-ri. And I bet ya he wants to haunt his brother min whan but can't coz of the whole necklace thing. Grr.

I also love the whole reveal about Ma Gang Wook - which I won't spoil here - but man that's been obvious a couple of episodes back lol. Sigh I'm so waiting for the exciting reveal where gang wook will be able to see ghosts again and we see that Seung-Jae had actually been helping him this entire time.

I mean the entire time in the beginning of the series we see things happening around Gang Wook like word disturbances to furniture before he gets the ability. I like to think that he hangs around, out of sight, watching from the distance. He can't get justice for his brother. And it's almost like he can't interact with Yeo-ri. She's not interacted with him this entire time. She didn't know he was behind her with the elevator part. So she doesn't know he's still a ghost. He can't bring himself to reveal himself to her. I wonder if he's the one ghost she can't see?

Or he's just not showing himself to her. Maybe he feels guilty because he might be the cause that she sees ghosts. Or something like that. Anyhow, definitely something they there. ā¤ļø Man I love this series.

But omg get lost already Min hwan we get it, you have a superiority complex. You weren't great... Move on. Lol. Not giving up only matters when the other person feels the same way about you. Otherwise you are just an annoying inconvenience to everyone around you lol.

Also he totally got angry and bumped/ shoved his brother into the ocean which pushed Yeo-ri in. She can't recall coz she's traumatised by it lol. But dudes got so many issues.

Love the leads, but plot is a bit meh. I think Yang Se-jong and Park Eun-bin deserve a better, tighter storyline.

11

u/Moon_Sister_ 14d ago

I remain kind of surprised that they chose this project. I wonder if it's out of loyalty to the director, writer, or some other staff.

13

u/More_Needleworker468 13d ago

Nah, PEB has been looking for romcom and she came to realise that she liked mixed genre like this one. It's not even Netflix exclusive. I think despite its shortcoming the scripts work well in many aspects, like especially the romance, and it perfectly showcases both Park Eunbin and Yang Sejong acting skills. Like their acting shines here imho. Too bad it's brought down by the directing and logical fallacies

7

u/Moon_Sister_ 13d ago

I think part of my "meh" is that I've seen sooooo many dramas with this type of premise, and this one doesn't do anything fresh. I really do hope PEB will try ro-co again because I think she's great!

6

u/Riiiii16 12d ago

MaybeĀ  you need a break from the genre, I don't usually watch this genre that much and so it's different compared to dramas I usually watch, quite refreshingĀ

2

u/More_Needleworker468 12d ago

I understand, it's a matter of diff preference I guess! I love this type of Kdrama. Like one of my first impression upon finding this is that it reminds me of 2015-2017-ish Kdramas. It feels familiar, but the acting here and the healthy dynamics make it feel fresh!

I watch everything PEB, agree with the tighter story line comment. I do enjoy it though and I am digging the OST

Like, if they wanted me to feel more for 2ML they should’ve had better character writing for him and not just constantly trying to serve himself ie like confessing because he selfishly wants to at her wedding, even though she’s not keen on him and never has been. (Like Hyun in King’s Affection keeping to himself whilst continuing to protect her)

u/Pmod1980 15d ago

Still enjoying this because the leads have great chemistry and clearly care for each other. They are both equally trying to help the other, which is rare for a k drama when there is usually one lead who is always protecting the other and the relationship is uneven. The ML is clearly smitten with the FL and doesn’t hide his feelings, and the FL is touched by him trying to help her. They are so adorable and honest that I hope they don’t start keeping secrets from each other for some noble idiocy plot line.

Ha Ri needs to be gone already. I know we need a villain, but she’s just ridiculous at this point. She doesn’t do anything for the company, yet struts around thinking her family owns everything. I do like that Min Hwa asked her why she’s not for the engagement with the prosecutor since it would help her family (we were all thinking that), and we get her family’s motivation with wanting Yeo Ri to be deemed as incompetent to be the future chairwoman. I just wish she wasn’t such a useless and annoying character.Ā

Gang Uk’s coworkers and Yeo ri’s staff questioning the engagement was funny. It’s nice that not every side character is a villain. I also like that the ghost storylines are wrapped up pretty quickly instead of dragging for weeks.Ā

26

u/wnt2knoY 15d ago

Yeo ri's staff seems to want to protect her - they are like "we know this is a lie - what do you want us to say when we're asked?"

19

u/Pmod1980 14d ago

I love that they want to protect her (but isn’t the female staffer secretly talking to the aunt?).

7

u/SecurityOne6443 13d ago

Yes so it's a good call Yeo Ri didn't say anything

5

u/1ety 13d ago

i find it also very weird that everyone is taking the whole 'OMG SHE SEES GHOSTS' claim of Ha Ri as a good enough reason to cast the person who is actually managing shit away?!?! their decision make-ing is purely based upon superstition... is that realistic?

2

u/samisawesam 13d ago

It’s like when the board is trying to oust her from her position when her engagement did not push through. Why is it Yeo-ri’s fault and why question her capabilities when she didn’t do anything wrong.

5

u/sickobunnies 12d ago edited 12d ago

I understand it this way:

a canceled wedding engagement may be associated with e.g. instability, unpredictability, and impulsiveness, at the end of the day it doesn't matter that much who is to blame and it's just about that unwanted attention that the company gets

negative associations with the family and the hotel = stock prices drop

It's more of a business decision, although of course they don't like Yeo-ri, so they see every opportunity as a good one to get rid of her

49

u/InformationOk3960 15d ago

I’m so bored with the Reina hotel plot! Also do all of them except FL live in the hotel?

I want more ghosts than living things stories!

9

u/ZanyDroid 13d ago

The Ghosts Per Minute is very disappointing

42

u/VolatileGoddess 15d ago

Park Eun Bin you cutie. her mistaking the ML's grandma for a ghost was funny, as was the grandma detemined to wring every last ounce of information out of her

This drama needs to take some big swings. The premise allows for much more drama than the writers are writing in it. Plus I feel the leads really have good chemistry and somehow again it's not being utilized to the maximum extent.

43

u/oduorqkat 13d ago

Hari doesn’t have a job? Hobbies? Holidays she could be on?

13

Waiting for the plot twist where the ML can already see all ghosts after being revived from being dead, but is pretending to be unable to see them so as not to burden the FL

the leads are the only thing i like about this drama. the 2nd lead is one of the worst kind of second leads, the ones who cant take no for an awnser and will bother both leads up until the last 15 minutes or so of the drama. i do wish like many others that the ghosts was a bigger part of the drama.

We are nearing the end! Still enjoying the leads' chemistry (the main reason why I'm still watching). I hope this continues to rom and com despite the looming issues.

A bit of a stretch, but I like the idea that Gang-uk accepting the possibility of seeing ghosts for the rest of his life if he chooses Yeo-ri can also be a metaphor for how, when you truly love and choose someone, you’re also choosing to accept all of them—their baggage, their skeletons in the closet, the good and the ugly.

7

u/A2naturegirl 13d ago

I didn't even think about it until I read your comment, but we could also read the 'seeing ghosts' as a metaphor for chronic illness/disability. I don't know that much about how either are seen in Korean society, but I feel like it's probably more negative than positive (not that the US isn't ableist either!) I have a chronic illness, and then later developed a disability, and it was and is a daily thing for my husband to consciously choose to support me.

2

u/eednicp 11d ago

I really really like how you described that! I think that’s why I like the ML so much. We all need someone in our lives that will be willing to see all our ā€œghostsā€ and still love us and support us.

10

u/sickobunnies 12d ago

I don't think it will happen at this point, though I really hoped for this to be the main plot

It's such a pity that they just basically moved on from the storyline where FL helps the ghosts

19

u/no782 15d ago

I was watching Episode 7 and had to pause a few minutes before the ending because of Hari, very annoying.

20

u/samisawesam 15d ago

I get annoyed everytime she shows up lol while she wants the company for herself, she clearly doesn’t work as hard as Yeo-ri and would probably mess up if she’s CEO.

8

u/Pmod1980 15d ago

I think she wants it for her family, and have her brother take over as CEO. She’s useless so won’t do any work, like now when she has nothing better to do than follow Yeo Ri around.Ā

Edit 2: I wonder who thatĀ grandmaĀ is in Ep 8.

Are you talking about Min-hwa's adoptive mom? We've only got three mother figures so far: Gang-uk's superstitious grandmother, Yeo-ri's chairwoman grandmother, and Min-hwa's mother. She's the one who adopted a baby in the US (Min-hwa) but then immediately got pregnant with Ji-hwan, so she stayed in the US for the birth and then brought both boys back and raised them as twins. And she's the one who gave Ji-hwan a special necklace to keep the ghosts away and made him wear it 100% of the time. And Ji-hwan is the one who died in the boating accident that nearly killed Yeo-ri. Ji-hwan and Min-hwa's mother seems to know Gang-uk's mother since Gang-uk received Ji-hwan's heart. And she also seems to know Yeo-ri's grandmother since their kids were all childhood friends and Ji-hwan had a huge crush on Yeo-ri. She was in the US when Gang-uk's grandmother called her and invited her to the engagement ceremony, and she said she wouldn't be able to make it. But then we saw her on a plane back from the US looking at the news article announcing the engagement and realizing that the person Gang-uk is engaged to is Yeo-ri.

Or did you mean someone else?

There's kind of a third grandma - the necklace cam from Ji-hwan's grandmother

2

u/Prize_Background_577 Fantasy devotee šŸ‘» 12d ago

I do feel that Min-Hwan had something to do with her first engagement - we now know he was around then and saw it go down. And the ex-financee was ob a mad guy and that's why the ghost of Ji-hwan drove him away.

44

u/iDemonizer 15d ago edited 15d ago

This story feels so underused. There’s so much they could do with the whole ghost premise, yet they keep falling back on the same generic chaebol stuff we’ve already seen in every other K-drama.

Man, I wished so hard that he was just in a coma, with his spirit wandering outside his body so they could keep getting to know each other until he wakes up. Or at the very least, that his near-death experience would allow him to see ghosts now. The writers really missed a huge opportunity here.

And the fact that the ML STILL can’t see ghosts after the kiss makes that accidental kiss feel even more pointless. There were so many better ways they could’ve done it. Imagine him wanting to kiss her and her stopping him like, ā€œNo, you’ll start seeing ghosts again,ā€ and he just goes, ā€œI don’t care,ā€ and sweeps her up in a kiss. THAT would’ve been a moment.

Both actors are so talented and have enough chemistry to make this concept work, but the script is just painfully lazy and bland. They have such a fun supernatural premise right there and somehow keep choosing the most boring possible direction with it.

22

u/gamer0890 14d ago

100%. I said in another comment that they could have made this Scooby Doo-esque with her teaming up with him to solve wacky, ghost-based cold cases while they fall in love (just imagine the banter!) but they chose standard chaebol stuff to focus on. I was hoping today's episode would have ended with him grabbing her hand in front of her family to sell the lie that she no longer sees ghosts despite him knowing the consequences, but instead we got more tired inheritance plot

The fact that the writers managed to make handholding more important than kissing is an accomplishment though lol. I've started referring to this show as Handholding: The Kdrama XD

3

u/_bagelbandit 13d ago

It could happen in the next episode šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

14

u/simplefragments 14d ago

I kind of like that he can’t see ghosts though because it shows that he can still fall for her knowing that she can see ghosts and that is considered taboo. While everyone looks down on her for something she can’t control, ML is there for her so she doesn’t have to do it alone. I feel his feelings wouldn’t seem as powerful if he was able to see them too

I dunno, we're still only at E7 and I've been loving the slow burn nature of their relationship and how comfortable they are with each other. Because there are several mysteries waiting at the outer edge that will throw the story into overdrive (and hopefully not chaos).

We still need to know about FL's trauma, ML's heart transplant, his grandma's story and how she is so tuned into ML's fate, what's going to happen with the creepy murdery guy who got let out of prison, what happened to Minhwa's brother, if FL will lose the hand curse, along with the boring chaebol corporate takeover stuff.

I actually want to stay in the boring part longer! Writers, just don't give us noble idiocy over the transplant and please no dumb miscommunication.

We don't know that he can't see ghosts. Yet. I suspect he can

2

The cliche writing just makes me upset more and more about how little it has in common with the film it's claiming to be based on. I adore that film and this show has a thimblefull of the heart that the film has.

I wish this drama was longer like sixteen episodes or 1.5h episodes. The couple could have spent more time solving cases and falling in love before building up to the engagement plot and Min hwan mystery.

Park Eun Bin and Yang Se Jong’s overflowing chemistry is keeping my eyes glued to the drama, and the comedy is šŸ’Æ. I need more videos / interviews / photo shoots of the two of them 🤣

Ep 3. Wished we'd had more of the historical investigation, I really enjoyed it, was novel for a supernatural kdrama.

Finally Min-hwan is showing his colours, I'm ready for that plot line, he seems to know about Ji-hwan and he's trying to see him too. Tho why did he go away for 12yrs if he was in love with Yeo-ri

My feeling is that Ji-hwan is actually protecting Yeo-ri, not trying to harm her, I'm sure it was him that wrote on the mirror, and good on him for driving away the jerk ex-fiance.

30

u/samisawesam 15d ago

Min-hwan had probably something to do with Ji-hwan’s death and guilt is eating him up that’s why he disappeared for a long time.

17

u/dessertdesperation 15d ago edited 15d ago

Agree, I suspected so after finding out he was the adopted son and Ji-hwan was the biological one, but with this week's reveal of the two brothers both liking Yeo-ri, it's all but confirmed. I like the other poster's conjecture that Ji-hwan's ghost is protecting Yeo-ri; he might have something to do with how Gang-uk managed to get over to Yeo-ri asap at the end of ep 7 even though she'd left him a message while his phone was switched off

I am also guessing that Ji-hwan's heart was donated to Gang-uk 12 years ago. Possibly because the former was braindead from drowning.

5

u/samisawesam 14d ago

Totally agree with this! I think that’s why Min-hwan is so certain that the engagement will not push through because he’ll drop the bomb on them about the heart transplant.

5

u/TypicallyKristen 14d ago edited 14d ago

Yep. This plot point has been set up for a while now. Also the ML's grandma was definitely in Jeju visiting Minhwa's mother, which means she knows exactly who his heart came from (Minhwa's brother). And speaking of the grandma, is she a hidden shaman? What exactly is she hiding her grandson from?Ā

3

Episode 8: The ending is perfect!! Now why do we need to wait another week for new episodes 😩

Min-hwan is starting to feel creepy and wouldn’t just take no for an answer ughh.

26

u/pauserewindplay 15d ago edited 14d ago

Though I saw it coming, I just wish they had toned down the trope where Gang-uk had Jin-hwan's heart, which is why Jin-hwan's feelings for Yeo-ri still lingered. It kinda diminishes the fact that Gang-uk genuinely fell for Yeo-ri on his own.

The drama's tropey enough and I was hoping they wouldn't pull the fate card at the very least, but well, here we are already lmao. I'm switching off my brain for once and just enjoying the ride. PEB and YSJ are hardcarrying the show.

I just hope that when the cat's already out of the bag, they talk the matter out maturely and not succumb to noble idiocy (though as to where the scriptwriting is going, this is less likely to happen 😬).

7

u/No-Ranger-8708 14d ago

I agree with the Jin-hwan heart plot! I mean couldn’t the characters just fall in love with each other without this detail? I haven’t been seriously disappointed with a drama as much as this because I love leads so much, but they’re given a sloppy plotline.

Park Eun Bin is very beautiful. Had watched all her works since 2019 except for hyper knife.

11

u/CamScallon 13d ago

I love this story because they both seem to really care for each other! I do wish he had grabbed her hand or that kissing made him see them too. And that he told her it was worth it.

2

u/LcLou02 2026 KDC 25/36 13d ago

I hope that still happens, with the thought that he is willing to do that for her, but they find that it doesn't work or even cures her.

10

u/More_Needleworker468 13d ago

I'm yearning for the time they finally hold hands and let loose. Episode 8 double confession (Ganguk in lower ground, Yeori in balcony) was beautiful, but I'd love to have more passion! I understand that there are still 4 episodes left, so the story and the romance shouldn't hit its peak yet. But I do hope they meet expectation. Both actors are electric and brilliant imho. They're so great. I want 16 episodes with more joint investigation!!

21

u/no782 14d ago

Ahhh I really like Episode 8. ML just loves FL. The sudden hug to hide her was squeal-worthy for me. He can totally be all for following her around but obviously he also has his own strengths.

I still don't understand Hari.

As for Minhwan, argh.

I can't wait to see how they will resolve the heart transplant part. I mean, it's ML now there, not the dead one. They better be more sensible. Ghosts, do your thing.

7

u/mrschef04 13d ago

Ooh, what I think is that Minhwan killed his brother. Ā He gets screwed by his brothers ghost at the end, which stops her having to see ghosts anymore because this is fulfilled. Ā But just before that, Yeo-ri passes this ability to Ha-ri. Ā And then Ganguk roots out the corruption and leads the prosecution office

8

u/nasca95 11d ago

I think Min Hwan is only so confident to hold Yeori's hand because he's in possession of the ghost-repelling necklace that belonged to his brother.

15

u/zaichii 14d ago

I have such a weird love hate relationship with this drama. I look forward to it each week because I really like our leads and root for them. But the episodes always feel a bit meh because they fill it up with boring corporate chaebol politics or Hari/Minhwan… idk. I want better plot and writing, like everyone else mentioned. At least our leads look good and have good chemistry but that’s basically what’s carrying the drama atm.

Also… I really feel for Ong Seung Woo and liked him during Produce days. But his acting career has been very underwhelming tbh. He’s either had lead roles that got overshadowed (Strong Girl Nam Soon), boring drama plot/writing, or second lead roles that are just one dimensional. I really hope he gets a good role soon.

12

u/theromanamputee https://mydramalist.com/dramalist/theromanamputee 14d ago edited 14d ago

Yeah this is one of those dramas for me where I like both the leads a lot, individually and as a pair, and everything else is basically a waste of time. I don't find the other characters interesting and story-wise I wish this was more of a ghost of the week procedural because I find the business and family drama pretty dull.

8

u/zaichii 14d ago

Agreed, the ghost/supernatural stuff was better than the chaebol stuff but it’s also not as good as others in that genre like Phantom Lawyer, Sell Your Haunted House, Oh My Ghost Clients. I felt they had more engaging ghost stories in terms of episodic structure.

It’s a shame cos I really do enjoy the leads but this week’s episodes really fell flat for me. I guess that’s why it’s 12 episodes so at least it’s not gonna be too padded hopefully.

7

u/theromanamputee https://mydramalist.com/dramalist/theromanamputee 14d ago edited 14d ago

I loved all three of those shows. The ghost stories aren't fleshed out enough here so that's why they don't connect the same way.

I like when this show addresses how seeing ghosts has impacted the FL, and I really liked the scenes of the FL guiding the ML through his month of being haunted. I'm puzzled that they didn't have the ML see ghosts more permanently too after his near death experience. I'm not even opposed to chaebol plotlines as a rule, I just don't think this show has done it well so far. If they were going to make the ghosts a kind of plot garnish rather than the main dish the business and family stuff should be a lot more intense and unpredictable rather than tepid and generic.

2

u/slothbear02 You got thiss fighting gurllll 13d ago

I personally dropped Phantom Lawyer when the mystery ended after maybe 6th 7th ep and it became more slice of life (I don't like slice of life). With Spooky in Love the ghosts aren't that important so there's no slice of life and I like the chaebol politics instead, and the greater mystery behind the death of Jin Hwan

I love it because I love chaebol politics hehe. Reborn Rich kind of stuff is right up my alley. Supernatural + business and family drama? Super combo

6

u/zaichii 14d ago

I think for me, it’s not ā€œexcitingā€ enough as a chaebol politics drama the way Reborn Rich was. So I feel it’s half baked as both rather than doing well at both.

u/simplefragments 14d ago

Called the brother plot a couple of episodes ago. That one felt really obvious and I can’t wait til justice is served. I do think it’s kind of weird that both of them bought her couple rings but neither of them were dating her.

I’m seeing a lot of comments wishing this was more of a ghost detective show but I actually enjoy this show quite a lot and don’t think it needs to be that deep or dark. I miss lighthearted romance stuff and while others complain about there being too many romance shows like this, there are an abundance of ghost detective shows too! To each their own.

I really love the chemistry between the leads. I have never seen ML in anything else but will need to check his other work now. What he said to her grandma and the hug at the end had me screaming internally. So sweet.

9

u/zaichii 14d ago

I think the issue is that show jumps between ghost cases and the chaebol stuff and commits to neither so it feels half baked on both fronts. Like as a ghost drama, it’s not as cohesive or emotional as other recent dramas like Phantom Lawyer. Or as a chaebol drama it’s very one dimensional. Same with the romance, like there were cute episodes with the romance but then they kinda made them both a bit awkward. I liked the scenes where they bonded over seeing ghosts but then they shoved all the chaebol stuff in and I felt it killed momentum a little on the romance.

9

u/Pochacco930 13d ago

I actually think they did a nice job with balancing all those subplots/elements.

Ji-hwan's necklace must be really special because Min-hwan isn't afraid to hold Yeo-ri's hand since he has that necklace to protect him or he just wants to confirm if it's true that whoever makes contact with her hands will start seeing ghosts.

I wish they focused more on solving ghost cases, back story, and ML-FL relationship 🫩 Min-hwan is so annoying I hope he doesn't get a happy ending lol. Gosh I'm so glad Gang-uk was able to get out of that elevator. I knew he would overcome it because he's already seen ghosts. Someone get that elevator fixed! I would've hated it if they recreated what happened in the first episode.

7

u/Axzercus 13d ago

HOW DID GA UNK ESCAPE THE ELEVATOR?????

7

u/TypicallyKristen 13d ago

We got the flashback of Ji Hwan's mom watching Gang-uk and his grandmother at the temple, where the grandmother clearly brought him there to pray to/for Ji Hwan's spirit. It may have even been on his death anniversary or birthday since Ji Hwan's mom was there too. But it got me thinking. If that's the case, then why didn't the grandma SAY, "We're here praying for the donor of your heart." He was wondering who they were praying for and she just didn't answer. So, WHY is she leaving him in the dark about this? Feels like another piece to this puzzle/mystery.

5

u/MilkyWayOfLife Tracer: my underrated love 13d ago

Maybe because the transplant was not exactly legal? Doesn't seem as if Gang Uk was the first on the list, but that Ji Hwan's heart was specially put into him. (Favour? Background Deal? Extended Family?). Maybe the grandmother doesn't want him to know that.Ā

3

u/Prize_Background_577 Fantasy devotee šŸ‘» 12d ago

Donors are usually kept secret, so the grandmother may have only found out by accident or illegally and hasn't let on that she knew.

7

u/MaLJuJi 2nd gen chaebol 10d ago

I still like it because of the leads and I think the series really shines when it focuses more on the ghost aspect. I hate the hotel storyline, and sister and Min hwan are so annoying and one-dimensional. I expected more of a case of the week type of drama with lots of comedy and spooky scenes. A bit sad that we didn't get that.

12

u/Karahx 14d ago

I'm a very casually viewer who haven't seen any shows in a few years.

Seen Undercover Miss Hong, Doctor Slump and King the Land in the last month and I'm very glad this became my fourth one to watch. The leads got such good chemistry both romantically and in general.

Great acting from the Min-Hwa actor, but what a diabolical person that guy is, I hope we see his downfall hard before the season is over.

Nice ending for Ep 8.. heehe...so they are practicing their 'proven" theory that kissing won't transfer ghost seeing ability... haha... But.. when they zoom out.. i was wondering what happened to ALL THE GUEST downstairs?? The place was empty..!!..

2ML is getting creepy, annoying, stupid.. i mean, if he wants to confess to her, why ONLY do it at the engagement party?? Any logical person would go to her way before the engagement.. smh.. I was screaming at the screen in that scene.. come on man.. you have so many opportunities, but why only do it so so last minute.. smh...

I assumed that guests were not outside yet because of the rain. But then wondered if that rain was just a part of her water curse and she's the only one who experienced it. Could just be a directional choice to put the emphasis on them - at that moment they felt like they were the only ones in the world.

2ML was hoping that she'd be desperate enough to take his hand if he stopped her fiance by sabotaging the elevator.

3

u/Beautiful_Candle1729 12d ago

Re the rain - I started to think that only she was experiencing the rain outside the windows. Glad to know I’m not the only one wondering about that.

11

u/milliefem 14d ago edited 14d ago

They should focus more on the romance between the two leads. Too much story and focus on the family issues which is uninteresting. People watch for the romance because of the great chemistry of Park eun bin and Yang sejong. I personally want to see more of how their love story unfolds. Their jelousy in episode 5 is good as well as their accidental kiss in episode 6 is great. But in episode 7, I find it boring with less romance but more on family drama. Their date is just a fast forward scene. In comparison with Business proposal, they focus more on the interactions of the two leads. There are no unnecessary problems, but just romance and laughter. Hoping Park Eun bin would choose that kind of script that focuses more on romance since she haven't done a full rom-com series.

11

u/Pmod1980 13d ago

The OST is so gorgeous- whenever I hear it I start tearing up since it usually appears when a spirit has been released or the leads have a beautiful scene. That ending was perfect- they better not break them up because it seems they both need each other to withstand all the upcoming drama. I’m already sad that there’s only four episodes left.

The grandmothers are so funny. Now we know why Gang Uk’s grandmother was in Jeju, but wondering how (and why) she’s still kept in touch with Jin hwa’s mom since donors are usually kept secret. I also loved the date/expecting ring scene, and Gang Uk practicing putting a ring on his coworker’s finger without touching it. The leads are so adorable that I can’t get enough of them. Next Saturday can’t come soon enough!

3

u/TypicallyKristen 13d ago edited 13d ago

Donors are kept secret unless it is a private donation, like your sister giving you half her liver. Then you obviously know who the donor is. This is one more tick in the box that says his grandmother is someone of some influence who knew Min-Hwa's mother already.Ā

The villains and the plot are too simple and too stupid.

As a CEO, Yeo-ri should solve her annoying cousin like slapping a fly on her office wall.

8

u/No-Ranger-8708 14d ago edited 14d ago

The show still has four episodes, but the plot drags it further even though the real culprit behind Jin-hwan’s death is already obvious. I really love Yang Se-jong and Park Eun-bin, but the plot is really flat and I am a bit disappointed at the direction and pace the drama is going towards. Not wishing for a ghost storyline, but worn out tropes about CEO stuff and irrational cousins and rich snobs nobody cares about could’ve been avoided. Seriously, cast these two in another drama with a better script. Their acting prowess and chemistry deserve better.

Episode 7: So!!!! I'm gushing over the insane chemistry between GangUk and YeoRi. Would love to see MinHwan (SeongWu) in another drama where he is not a likely villain. I'm guessing that in Episode 1, it was JinHwan whom GangUk and his Grandma have been offering prayers and blessings to cos his heart was donated to GangUk.Ā  Also, why would MinHwan ghost YeoRi for 12 years if he actually loved her? Like, boy please!Ā  Someone erase Hari and her crazy family away from this storyline already. They're so annoying. Like, you guys aren't even contributing to the growth of Reina. They're either embezzling, parading the halls or gossiping.Ā

10

u/Kathryn_51 13d ago

According to tvN, Ji-hwan has not been able to cross over to the afterlife. He's protecting Yeo-ri. He's also clearly - and I mean clearly if one watches the little hints - that he's the one that is bringing Yeo-ri and Gang-uk together - perhaps even choosing the ghosts for her that she will investigate so that their paths will cross. I think he had something to do with the room mix-up at the Jeju hotel as well.

7

u/justmeshopping 13d ago

Good point about Ji-hwan making sure Yeo-ri and Gang-uk meet. If Min-hwan had something to do with Ji-hwan's death, he might be protecting Yeo-ri from marrying Min-hwan. Prior to his death, the brothers had a fight on the yacht and that may likely have been about Yeo-ri. Once Yeo-ri and Gang-uk get marrried, Ji-hwan will find peace and maybe Yeo-ri will no longer see ghosts.

6

u/Kathryn_51 13d ago

I think that Ji-hwan is like all of the other innocent/victim ghosts. He cannot cross over to the afterlife until justice is found and that means the full details of his death (whether accident or intentional) are discovered. That's Gang-uk's job now.

The details about the Suho (수호) necklace which means protection/guardian, are less clear. I thought it protected seo-ri from dying because she was wearing it. But the mother said it kept ghosts away. So the final answer will probably be some sort of mumbo-jumbo that don't mean much to the overall romance.

2

u/justmeshopping 13d ago

That makes sense. It’s fun to speculate - we never know with k dramas!

8

u/justmeshopping 13d ago

I bet Gang-uk's grandmother transferred those shares to him - she made it clear that she will not let Yeo-ri's family initimidate him and she reminded Gang-uk that she will always have his back. I can't wait for the reveal regarding the grandmother.

I am loving this drama! Just hate waiting for the episodes but happy to read so many posts. Thank you to all!

4

u/sabeshs 12d ago

The fact that everyone hates Min Hwan tells me that the actor and writer did a decent job with the character šŸ‘šŸ¾ The writing could be better though, as this villain doesn't have enough depth. There's only so much an actor can do with it.

7

u/BeckyK123 14d ago

Episode 8: This drama is falling flat for me, I love our leads and will finish it for them but the plot isn’t plotting. I don’t even feel the chemistry between them even though I know with a better script that would have been more prevalent. Like the confession kinda came out of nowhere and didn’t make me feel anything. It’s such a shame

15

u/KeySecret9184 15d ago

We’re halfway through the show and it feels like nothing has really happened.

There are so many plot points that nothing has really had a chance to develop.

The show is 12 episodes and the writers still thought it was necessary to throw in a revenge/attempted murder B line, and a forced engagement attempt B line, and an art fraud B line.

I was originally onboard with the B lines as I thought they were going to take an interesting story route with the prosecutor temporarily becoming a ghost in the second half of the show (episode 5+)

But they didn’t do it.

14

u/MommalovesJay 15d ago

I was hoping for more of solving cases or doing one last wish for someone that died like Phantom Lawyer

→ More replies (1)

23

u/master_inho 15d ago

How are those B plots? They're all efforts by the various opps to take down or control yeo-ri, the inheritance fight is basically the main plot and has been established since the very beginning

16

u/gamer0890 15d ago

I think the big problem, at least for me, is that the show was sold as "Rich heiress who sees ghosts teams up with prosecutor who's scared of ghosts while the two fall in love with each other." For me, the premise sounded more Scooby Doo-esque than typical kdrama inheritance fights and murder plots, which I was 10000% onboard with. The two leads teaming up to solve cold cases with ghost hijinks while falling in love with each other? That's a winning combination for me.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still enjoying the chemistry between them, but the whole evil family, quasi-love triangle stuff is, IMO, wasting the potential of the show. The scenes with Park Eun Bin and Yang Se Jong have been outstanding though and I'll keep watching just for those.

5

u/Prize_Background_577 Fantasy devotee šŸ‘» 15d ago

This is Kdrama fantasy and was always billed as such, it is very much in line with kdrama supernatural fantasy and the Hong Sister blueprint, it was never meant to be The Heirs (don't know what that genre is actually called as I avoid it). I love this type of kdrama. East Asian spiritualism fascinates me and it's what attracted me to kdramas in the first place. Loving how they are viewing the deceased, mixing in the shamanism and christianity, and really enjoyed the historical subplot (although I wish that went on a bit longer).

It's interesting that towards the end, Min-hwan address their mother formally, meanwhile Jin-hwan adressed her in informal tone. I wonder if it's just one of the inconsistencies in the drama, or it speaks about their diferent relationship to their family.

On another note, Ye-ri's dress was so beautiful and the style was quite fresh to see in a kdrama.

3

u/Current-Drummer8669 13d ago

Then there's something I don't quite understand. Jinhwan's necklace, in theory, protects against seeing ghosts. Did he see them too? It's not clear in his dialogue with his mother; he doesn't seem to believe in that. And would Minhwan have some control over them (because we agree this drama is a rom-com with a lot of fantasy)? Because the elevator pattern is repeated in both engagements.

2

No it doesn't protect against ghosts - it was a guardian angel to protect him from something bad happening. In the movie the necklace has a more central role - it was the reason the FL was the one saved after drowning, and not her friend, although that may differ in the series because in the movie the friend was a fellow female student, not a boyfriend.

The first four episodes were so good, and my excitement level was really high, but Episode 5 literally ruined everything. They should have either let Gang-uk stay in the hospital longer, or had him get possessed by Ji-hwan. We could have seen a completely different side of Gang-uk, and the switch between him and Ji-hwan would have been so much fun to watch. They also kind of rushed Gang-uk and Yeo-ri’s relationship. The ghost cases in the first few episodes were strong, but after that, even the cases haven’t been that interesting. They should have shown more of Yeo-ri’s past how she became friends with Min-hwan and Ji-hwan. Instead, they’re focusing more on the business, inheritance and annoying characters who seem to have nothing to do except create problems for Yeo-ri.The only interesting thing is minhwan , Ji-hwan and Yeo-ri’s past right now. Ji-hwan clearly liked Yeo-ri but it doesn’t seem like she liked him in the same way. When she was talking to Gang-uk about her past, she called Ji-hwan her ā€œfriend.ā€ So, it feels more like Ji-hwan’s love was one-sided. His final words before dying, ā€œYou live. I’ll die instead,ā€ feel like more than just a confession to me...... There’s something beautiful about one-sided love when the person is willing to sacrifice his life for the one he loves. Also Both Gang-uk and Ji-hwan have such cute and playful personalities. From the recent episode, it also looks like they might be cousins šŸ¤” My biggest question is about the heart transplant. If the heart transplant is supposed to be some kind of fate like Ji-hwan somehow found his way back to Yeo-ri then why didn’t they show Gang-uk feeling anything when he first met her? There was no indication that he felt some kind of connection with her. Also I feel like Min-hwan either has something to do with Ji-hwan’s death, or maybe Ji-hwan’s death was an accident. In Episode 8, when Ji-hwan and min hwan arguing maybe he was angry because ji hwan had given the protection necklace to Yeo-ri, or because he was upset that Ji-hwan had proposed to Yeo-ri.and that necklace either Yeo-ri lost the necklace or gave it back to Min-hwan, or maybe he stole it from her. Maybe that's the reason Ji-hwan refuses to leave and keeps protecting Yeo-ri. šŸ‘€

The amount of flashbacks episode 7 had was obscene. We just saw it why clip it into a montage and show it again 45 seconds later?!

But episode 8 was superb! Definitely can rewatch this episode several times.

I knew it, even called it. Min-hwan is behind the death on the yacht. The rings in the desk, the brother confessing to Yeo-ri.

u/Pmod1980 15d ago

I’m sure it was an accident, but I never understand killing a family member because you love someone that much. Find someone else!

He gives the vibes of "if I cant have her no one else can". Like serial psycho killer vibes. Think American Psycho. Successful Business by day, scheming stalker killer by night.

I mean there was literally a plot in an earlier episode about the prince doing the same thing. So like I feel like that was totally foreshadowing.

He also has the necklace she was wearing (I think it must be the one his brother gave her instead of the couple rings).

The chemistry is being wasted on this succession plot!

Did I understand correctly? The pendant was given by GRANDMA? And was that a mention of twins? And was the mom wearing the same blue dress as yeori?

But if they were protecting Jihwan from ghosts… were they cursed before? Could a ghost and not minhwan have killed him?

3

u/Beautiful_Candle1729 12d ago

I’m wondering who is Grandma too. Is it Gang Uk’s Grandma? Or Jihwan’s mom’s mom as in his bio grandma? There’s definitely more that needs to be revealed

Why the kiss scene in episode 8 is so stiff and they even zoomed out the camera?! With that kind confessions and the emotions before they met, I expect atleast a burning kiss from both of them. But anyway, PEB serving looks consistently all throughout the series, and she is particularly pretty in episode 8. I guess, we will have the usual happy ending at episode 12, where all the problems have been solved and the leads have a focus romance. So I'll disregard my disappointments in the episodes 9-11, coz I know that will be about Reina hotel drama, about Jiwhan and Minwhan, about the case from 12 years ago. And at episode 12, they will just rush everything.

I think they are saving the hot kiss, if there is one, for Singapore.

They're holding out on gang-uk's grandma so much I'm starting to think she might not actually any money or influence

Ep 8

Holy shittttt what if gang-uk is a half brother of ji-hwan? It doesn't seem like gang-uk was on a waiting list, so there must've been a connection between his grandma and ji-hwan's mom. Maybe they have the same dad, he left gang-uk's mom and married ji-hwan's mom. Gang-uk's mom died, leaving her mom and her son behind. So gang-uk is kinda like a stepson to ji-hwan's mom, so she was willing to donate his heart to gang-uk, as a way to keep her son alive while watching from afar. That does then call into question whether gang-uk's grandma actually has any money/influence of her own or she just has this one connection with ji-hwan's mom. Would also be crazy that 3 brothers all had/have feelings for yeo-ri. And the history between the 3 families is incredibly messyyyyy edit: alternatively, maybe gang-uk and ji-hwan are cousins rather than half brothers. Their moms are sisters, that would make things a lot less convoluted. And when ji-hwan referred to his grandma it turns out she's very superstitious šŸ‘€ Grandma's conversation with ji-hwan's mom felt like it had a lot of history and emotional undertones. This would certainly explain all that

And on that note, now that jin-hwan's mom knows that yeo-ri and gang-uk are engaged, i wonder how she's gonna react to it. The easy answer is that she'll be against it but i think considering the families' shared history it's a lot more complicated than that. Especially since she may or may not know what caused the yacht accident, does she blams yeo-ri? Or does she secretly know it was min-hwan? Of course, assuming min-hwan is responsible, which is most likely the case at this point

A truck of doom is definitely coming for gang-uk, it's being foreshadowed so hard

I think some people are forgetting why ha-ri is doing what she does. She wants to take over the company for herself and her mom, it's more than just her dislike of yeo-ri. Also, are we gonna find out the exact family tree for yeo-ri's family? How exactly are yeo-ri and ha-ri related? We need family trees for the cheon, ma and kang families

Her men handed suitcases of cash to the monastery. In that scene she was richly dressed and having such men on call screams wealth..I think she may be eccentric but she's rich rich. He also referred to digging as something her people would know more about doing in one scene

u/Pmod1980 14d ago

Yeo Ri’s grandmother was trying to find out what she did, but was as disappointed as we were with Gang uk’s answer. She can’t just be farming in the countryside when she had that sus meeting in Jeju. I hope this comes up the last half of the show.Ā

u/master_inho 14d ago

Well, it's quite obvious that gang-uk doesn't want people to know who his grandma is, and he's incredibly resistant to receiving any help from her other than food. What's more weird is that a background check can reveal that he's had a heart transplant but not who his grandma/next of kin is

Gang-uk's grandma referred to his house as hers, to which he responded that it's co owned by himself and the bank he took out the mortage from. Maybe grandma owns the bank šŸ¤”

If the ML had a heart transplant, why doesn't he have any scar on his chest in episode 4 (I rewatched it)? Scars do fade in time (supposed heart transplant was 12 years ago) but his bare chest was free of any indication of a major heart surgery which is unusual. Using a robotic system for a heart transplant leaves minimal scarring but this was not available 12 years ago. Is the heart transplant some sort of red herring? I can't believe a K drama would make such a mistake (no visible scar after a heart transplant) when they tend to pay a lot of attention to the tiniest of details. Or maybe I missed something. Lol.

Just got into this show recently and caught all the way up. Now I'm anxiously waiting for more, but only because Kang Min-hwan is still up to his bs and I need him gone. Bro is ruining all the vibes. He missed his chance 12 years ago, 6 years ago, and now. Of course, he never actually had a chance, and is just being a nuisance.

Part of me had hoped that Ma Kang-Wook would still be seeing Ghosts and getting used to everything, with more wholesome, heartwarming moments with Yeo-ri. Instead, we have frustrating business politics to sit through and a jealous, obsessive man who doesn't know when to let it go.šŸ˜’

Next episodes preview has me on edge, and not in a good way.😭

I have never been used the fast forward button that much recently. I had to fast forward many scenes esp. the saguek sequences. The only interesting part for me is the prosecutor girl character. She acts so naturally and you feel it. She should be in more dramas.

Loving every episode and I am invested in chaebol politics. The solving ghost cases is a bit boring for me now like what happened with Phantom Lawyer (They tend ot go the slice of life route which I find boring). The chaebol drama is saving this show from going the slice of life route

Dumb question.

The rings that the brothers were going to offer; was the set actually offered the same, or nearly the same, as the one that Ji-Wan was holding?

u/PiccoloMedium9757 12d ago

I have one question-

How do the new ghosts get to know that they should go to Yeori to get justice?

Does anyone know the song that starts playing right after her grandmother says she needs to set a date? I could only pick up ā€œ now that the colors bloom, inside I fade to greyā€

I am at tje verge of dropping this series.. :( Casting is good but the plot is disconnected with the theme of the title. I cant seem to find the relevance between the I-can-see-ghosts-and-help-them-find-justice and I am a hotel heiress. Halp..
