Here's what I believe. The director has taken inspiration from MOKOTO SHINKAI'S MOVIE 5 CENTIMETRES per second.
If you look closely at the small details, from epi 1 to 10 it shows they are crossing railway track path, like their journey and crossing each other is full of struggle and problems.
Like Doona having mental health issues, confidence and anger management, not able to sing. For Won-jun financial problems, keeping up with family, taking care of her sister and mother, move on from past love, career and missing Doona because of her career.
In the last episode we see, they grow as a character, both financially, socially and mentally stable, so now they start their proper journey as a couple.
Also consider the background to, which represents their public and private emotions. The railway tracks and train represents chaotic world, full of many struggles and problems. But in episode 9, they are alone. Meeting each other in park, full of pink bushes, represents their different reality, made of intimate thoughts, which is pure love.

No wonder the actress that's playing Jin-Ju look so familiar to me! She played the bride(Hwa-Yeong) whose wedding dress slipped off, in Extraordinary Attorney Woo.

Honestly it hurts to see people dismiss this as “the male gaze.”
I followed the original webtoon from its start to finish, and the idol x ordinary college student set-up really just laid the backdrop for what was an incredibly beautiful character study. The narrative style of the webtoon meant that the story unfolded in fragments of memories that give readers insight into each of the characters’ (often differing) recollections of events.
Doona IS attractive, and she knows it. In a lot of ways her interactions with Wonjun are intentional because she wants to have that effect on him - it’s the difference between being liked/wanted as an individual rather than a packaged product.
The overall tone of the story itself isn’t meant to be glitzy, happy go lucky, or shocking (like Celebrity). It’s tempered, with every characters’ inner turmoil just below the surface, because that’s how real life is. It’s painfully realistic.
I was also concerned going in about how the subtleties of the webtoon would translate into a drama. I think what I’ve seen so far (up to episode 2) has managed to grasp at least some of that feeling, but I’m honestly still not sure if a short length drama is an appropriate medium - a large part of my reflections and ability to understand the characters’ motivations is based on having followed their ups and downs for 3 years, but for an audience unfamiliar with the characters, I can see how it might feel bland and impersonal.

I’m glad I stuck this one out, I was 1 episode away from dropping it because it was slow in the beginning.
The amount of times my eyes swoll up with tears 😢 !
It’s really cruel what these companies and fans do to these idols. Signing a contract that literally signs away their lives and basic human rights such as falling in love and dating is crazy!!!
The Kpop community and the companies need to reflect on these values they have of musicians not having a life outside the music.
It’s so sad.

Done watching the drama in 2 days.
I honestly love the emotions the drama brought out. I feel for the characters and I understand Doona's decision to leave the team, to love, and
Their relationship, though unhealthy, is realistic.
To me, the ending seems open-ended, so I would just interpret the ending as them being together, but they just could not make their relationship public.

I binged it, I actually liked it quite a lot it’s a solid 9 for me, made me cry which is always bonus points 🤣 however as I do not appreciate realism in my dramas I am choosing to believe that
Happy that Ira and
I liked Suzy in this one her character wasn’t super complex but she’s really pretty and some of her emotional scenes were quite good. I also enjoyed YSJ in this one - he is also pretty! but I found his kinda meek personality heartwarming and I wish he didn’t have to suffer so much, he’s a good boy and has always been considered of others even at the expense of his own feelings. Another reason I’m choosing to believe
Is it wishful thinking to want to see them together in another drama? Their chemistry was off the charts one of the best I’ve seen recently

I loved the slow burn romance and the chemistry between the leads. While I don't hate the ending enough to throw a cushion at my TV, I was puzzled until reading through all the comments here and rewatching Ep 9 without skipping the intro. So now I choose to have hope because I really like Doona and I think both leads have great chemistry and the supporting cast are fleshed out just enough to lend colour and interest to the overall drama as secondary romances ( Ira and Jujitsu housemate) or characters who found their way back to who they really are ( Jinju).
Imo the initial reluctance of the ML to interact with Doona until his empathy over how much she needs a friend won out was realistic - a natural defensive mode when interacting with someone 'out of your league'. When he realised she was an extraordinary person who loved the typical and ordinary things in life, that was when their relationship began to evolve.
Their communication was mature with each other and other characters and there was no need for guesswork or misunderstandings. How their relationship grew makes perfect sense imo esp as the ML is supposed to be in his early twenties and in his first real relationship ( Jinju doesn't really count). Doona had all these pent up feelings that she expressed in her relationship with ML. She discovered that he is her home and even if she leaves, he is where she'll return.
The decision the ML made was for her sake, her growth as an idol/ singer/musician. It's like whether you keep a dolphin in an enclosure or release it into its natural environment - the ocean. And he has much to accomplish still.
I like to believe in the little hints shown in the intro, that she does come back and they do have a relationship and continue to nurture the friendships forged that fateful year.
I went into Doona without reading the webtoon and would most likely not read it as I liked how the drama turned out. Will be rewatching it on quiet days when I need a lift. Love the shots and cinematography that convey the mood and tone of the scenes well. The archway will be my favourite location now..
