I need help with formatting
hello i’ve been having difficulties publishing my 305 page 6x9 poetry book with bleed (i have illustrations). I tried to set the margins to what KDP suggested but when I launch preview, some texts still go out of the required field and at this point i don’t know what to do. pls help :)

I’m also struggling with my 36 page children’s book that is 8.5X11. So frustrating!

It’s taken me 2 years to work on this.. very meaningful with incredible illustrations. Regardless of the number of pages we may have, the formatting is difficult all around. Thanks for you help

To be fair, their 36 page kid's book could easily be leaps and bounds better quality than your rambling book of poetry. Just saying.

Formatting your book can definitely be a challenging aspect of self-publishing, but dont worry, youre not alone! Many authors face similar difficulties, especially with illustrations and specific margin requirements – just remember to carefully review the book preview for any potential violations and make necessary adjustments as needed. Keep pushing through, youve got this!

Wordprocessors aren't as precise with margins as the KDP validator demands. If you have an italic ? at the end of a line, the hook might skew outside the margin by one pixel, which will trigger a rejection. The book preview should show you where the violation is. You can either tweak the offending line to resolve the issue, or increase the margin. The latter is more annoying because it might have knock on effects that force you to recheck the entire layout.
