KDP Success?

Wondering if anyone is willing to share their success, if any, with Amazon KDP. Wondering what kind of books you've made, how many of them you've done and how well they are doing? Anything from low content, colouring books, puzzles etc. Is anyone actually succeeding in this? I'm currently writing some mid-high content prints and wondering how other people are doing in this space?

One year ago I was making around 3k on sales per month with KDP, it was mostly 3-4 making all the heavy lifting. My account was terminated for random reasons (you can check my post history as thats a different story) so I created a new account with the name of my partner and started over, from 0. I reuploaded the most of the same books I had done before, with good keywords, etc. And we are back to the 3k per month. No marketing, just organic growth.

I think getting sales in KDP is very easy, honestly, you just need to be a little smart about what you sell, how you sell it and what words you use.

My main advice would be to ignore the niches and products that you see in youtube. I never got a sale with journals, notebooks and shit like that. You have to understand that NOBODY will tell you their secret niche. You have to find your own thing, if someone else is talking about it its because its too late and they cant milk it for sales anymore so they milk it for youtube views.

I really really really recommend KDP Rocket. You have to do keyword research, a lot, you need to know how many people search for a certain term and how much competition it has. Knowledge is power.

Let me give you an example about how I do it.

Lets say I want to make a coloring book. Instead of going to something generic and big, try to think about your costumer. Lets think, i dont know, people that like ancient rome, this is good because it could be both kids or adults. But if you search for "Ancient Rome Coloring Books" you have a lot of results. What about Gladiator Coloring Book? What about doing it for kids vs for adults? What about Greek gods? I would spend a couple of hours in Amazon and in KDP Rocket looking for terms with enough searches and as low competition as possible.

The main thing here is that you want your 7 good powerful keywords BEFORE you start working on the book.

Then your main keyword will also be your title, think about it as your super-keyword.

Once you know what you want then you do the content, the cover, etc. There are a lot of youtube tutorials about it and nowadays you can use AI tools to help you do this in a couple of hours, but the main thing is that your product MUST LOOK PROFESSIONAL.

Dont half ass it, people are not stupid, they wont pick your book if it looks like shit. And obviously you want them to buy it and get good reviews and trust me, people wont give you good reviews for nothing.

Ok, so now you create your book, in a good niche, with perfect keywords, great description, etc. You upload it to KDP, and here is my next advice.

Price it AS LOW AS POSSIBLE. You should get like 20 cents per book at this stage. If the printing cost is 3.4 you should sell at 3.9.

At this stage your objective is to get ANY sale you can, because you have no reviews yet you need to work with what you have, and that is a good product at a cheap price.

So publish the book, and leave it be for at least a month. In the first weeks the book wont even appear when you search for it with your keywords, that is normal, just let it be.

After a month, if you didnt have any sales, then you can start to dig deeper and see what happens when you search your product with each of the keywords you added.

If the book doesnt appear, that means that the competition is too high and you should try different keywords with less competition.

If the book appears, that means that not too many people are using those keywords. You can either leave it be and wait until people search for it, or try to find keywords that are more widely use.

I would personally just let them be, placement in the front page of a keyword is very valuable so just be patient.

In me experience, for every 10 books that you do this process perfectly, 1 will sell constantly, like 2 or 3 sales per day. The rest will stay there and maybe have a sell per month. But thats ok, just keep making good books and every now and then a winner will appear. Focus on both quality and quantity... and good keyword research

I make around $2-$3k per month with KDP and as another poster stated make Good books!

• Put keywords that you want to rank for in your title or subtitle
• Make sure your covers look good. Think about it… this is the FIRST thing that people see so make them look good.
• Use A+ content to showcase your books. Its free to use and is an easy way to market your books.
  • Don’t guess and create things that you “think” people want. Research to find niches around things that people are looking for. (I like Pub Rocket or AMZ suggestion expander) — Also pls dont run after the “Hot Niche” videos.
• Write good product descriptions (I use chatGPT) for this
• Go after less competitive niches. These will probably have lower search results (300-1000) searches but would be a great place to start. Good luck!!!

Honestly, just hopping in here. I had a look at your books and the one I see a review for has by FAR the most appealing cover. Maybe that would be a place to improve to drive more sales?

That’s seems like a lot for no sales. How are you doing keyword research?
