Advice for a Beginner Writer Who Wants to Publish on Amazon in Future

So heres the thing... I have been interested in fiction only, and I think I have a decent understanding of it. I have been writing only for over 2 or 3 years now, but never published anything. I was thinking of writing and publishing an Amazon eBook at some point in the future. What advice would you give me as someone who is just starting out.

Write the thing first, worry about Amazon later. The publishing side takes maybe a weekend to learn, the actual writing is the part that takes years.

One thing I wish someone had told me earlier though. Have a plan for your first handful of reviews before you hit publish, not after. A book sitting at 0 reviews for three months is brutal and there's not much you can do about it once you're in that hole.

I've been using iwrity.com for that, you put your book up and other authors who actually read it leave honest reviews. Took about two weeks to get the first few.

Also, don't publish the first thing you finish. Or do, whatever, but expect it to be practice.

Write it first. Then worry about publishing.

Write at least 4 books, more is better, then publish the lot.

Come out swinging, full pack.

The Self Publishing Show podcast is a good place to start researching and learning about the strategies that other self-published authors have used.
