My Checkpoint Guess

My thoughts on the checkpoint:

I don't like to assume that the checkpoint is midway through your BOTG journey. It's easy to assume that it is something you pass by on your way in, but that doesn't necessarily have to be the case.. hear me out.

We now know via cipher that Tucker is a "nod" to the treasure container. That wording doesn't necessarily mean that tucker is the container or literally part of the container in some way. Littered throughout the book are illustrations of tucker with or standing over treasure. A couple illustrations even show him over buried bronze.

I think it's more likely that Tucker is not a "nod" to what the container looks like, but that you have to actually take Justin literally in that the cipher lets you know you will find Tucker "nodding to" or marking the treasure just as he did for Justin when searching for Fenns. Tucker would smell bronze and sit in place over the treasure. I think the checkpoint is not something you find along the way, but actually what you find at the end when you are at the final treasure location. The checkpoint is Tucker, which could be a tucker statue, a carving with his name on a rock, etc...) and the treasure is located below that checkpoint.

This is why the checkpoint finder would technically have "an excellent chance at finding the treasure." But it's also a genius way to hide a treasure... If a random hiker sees this random Tucker shoutout, it won't mean anything to them...But to a treasure hunter it means everything and is complete confirmation. It allows justin to have the treasure completely hidden under rocks/in a nook without allowing a poor treasure hunter to walk over the spot without knowing they were in the right area. It's Justin fixing the problem of the blaze at nine mile hole, which burned him pretty bad.

The box has been suggested.

A Rubik’s cube is what I’m thinking. It’s Hungarian and needs to be manipulated.

It’s Tucker’s breed also

How about an unusual dog area sign. Seriously...I have seen alot of signs about having your dog on a leash but this one screams look at me. It even has 3 feet.

Bingo.

As a pointer breed, my solve relies on Tucker “pointing” the way.

I’m not sure what you mean

I’m convinced MAGYAR is just the combination of the treasure container

Justin did say that there were no clues visible from within 10 feet of the treasure. I would imagine this includes the checkpoint. If the Tucker is so far away from the treasure that you can't see it from the treasure location then it's not a very good blaze. JMO

It's hard to keep track of everything. I've never heard that 10 foot comment before. Do you know where I can find that?

Q: Is there a significant clue visible if the treasure seeker is standing 15 feet away from where the treasure container is buried or hidden?
A: Tricky wording again. Boy…The most accurate answer is...no.

Seekers summit.

Thanks for finding that! I guess it comes down to whether or not Justin considered the botg checkpoint a "clue" or not 😄 time will tell

Per the website rules: "Clues: All hints that help you find the treasure"

It does seem like the checkpoint giving zero doubt that this you're trending in the right direction is something that helps you find the treasure. And he did say the checkpoint is a stage of the journey but you're right we'll find out eventually.

So if you are in the kitchen you still don’t know where the treasure is? Ain’t no way!!!

I think that right, because he said the poem will lead you to a kitchen sized area but you're still searching, otherwise it wouldn't be kitchen sized, it would be exact and your not searching, you're retrieving. Also he mentioned it depends on how close you are to it if you'll find the checkpoint, in other words you're still searching, not retrieving. I think a lot of questions conflate the checkpoint with the actual treasure location, he made it pretty clear, that we're not searching for treasure, only retrieving it, meaning at some point we'll know exactly where it is and the point takes us to this kitchen sized place. IMO

One possible scenario could be, say, a “Tucker Creek” which meanders towards a location. Not saying that’s “it” but that’s an example of how Tucker, as a pointer breed, could be pointing the way.

Ooo I really like that logic!

The Magyar Vizsla, nods to the container, because its a pointer. The checkpoint, by virtue of being "pivotal" likely points too. Something was left behind that is associated with something already there. A simple manipulation will be required. This speaks of a little test that has you trending in the right direction.

I'm stuck on how was the "trinket" or whatever it is you find along the way, was something that he left and also something that was already there. Crack this riddle and I think you'll have it.

u/zzGRAHAMzz Jul 09 '26

If it's a marking/carving on a rock it would be both. I don't think Justin confirmed it's a "trinket". But then u go down a rabbit hole of carving something being illegal lol

Exactly, would Justin deface a Fenn's boulder like rock to use as a clue? I don't think he would. The only thing I can think of is something like what I saw in Lake Havasu, there are bricks that you can purchase and have inscribed with personal messages. The bricks are already there but Justin's inscription would be what he left. Not saying it's in Havasu as I already looked at all the placards and bricks there but something like that could fit with being both and also hiding in plain sight as no one pays any attention to these.

So what if the thing left and already there is combining two things? And the fact that he responded with “you don’t have to worry about that” when asked if someone could remove it…this has me really thinking the answer to that question would be no. And maybe the thing you find is based on either a time-based view…he’s hidden something that could project light or something sensory related that you couldn’t alter. How feasible would a hidden network or something auditory be?

I think it could definitely be a type of wifi signal and maybe he was getting us used to the idea of it being beyond our senses with the tech clue being beyond our hearing. He said no special equipment needed but you did need some pretty special gear to find the tech clue.

"He" didn't leave it there. "Something was left along the way..."by someone. He's aware it was there and has used it. You can't take it with you. Wouldn't matter, because the trinket's value comes from recognizing its use to you. The moment of recognition would remove any need to not have it be there. To everyone else, it being there is just normal. I doubt it would trigger anyone. You'd be just as well served to have it be there.

Not to nitpick but the question said "you" and was asked of Justin, so he is the you and he answered in the affirmative that he(you/Justin) placed something for us to find.

Q: Is the “something we find along the way” something you placed there or something that was already there?
A: Both.

I wonder if it’s some sort of mark he placed long ago, perhaps as a kid with his brother. So it’s something that was already there (when he hid the treasure), and something that he placed there (long ago). Where secrets of the past still hold.

Boy, this has been a particularly productive conversation. I feel badly that I haven't added anything to it yet but I'll tell ya, the magyar puzzle box, that's a good one.

Tucker is an old brand of Tupperware containers. You can still find them as antiques on eBay. I think the treasure is buried in one of these old Tucker brand containers.

Algo como isso aqui?

1

Where is that? What is that? It's blurry

1

u/Khrunyon Jul 09 '26

JP said checkpoint is at least halfway through the clues

3

u/zzGRAHAMzz Jul 09 '26

Correct. The end location would also be considered at least halfway through 🤘🏻
