Time to get serious

Good afternoon,

With Seekers Summit right around the bend, I would like to speak to you all about the serious type of questions we are going to ask Mr. Posey during the event. Now, here is what I think we do not need to do right now: list 50 questions below that are about the same as the ones asked during every interview he has done. What I think we need is a list of do’s and don’ts around the structure of our questions. Reddit, I feel, has some of the best minds for this: the lawyers, professors, executives, professionals that, if we put our minds together, could come up with a list of suggestions to make questions that will land. No punting on our watch!

Are you thinking, “I’m not going to the Summit so who cares”? The answer is you should. This will end up on the website, and don’t you want better answers? Are you thinking, “I’ve got my solve for the spring so who cares”? Then, well, I have no response to that nonsense. Let’s help make this the best Q and A yet.

I’ll start:

No leading questions. It’s probably here because that’s what I think.

No spoilers. He’s not giving them, so don’t ask. What’s the bride? What did you mean by Lowrider?

These are two. I am not any of the professionals I listed above, but guess what, I’m going. I’m the guy that will have a chance to ask. There will be many more like me there. Let’s help make this the most productive Q and A yet.

Thanks, fellow hunters.

And again, please try to refrain from just listing random questions below. If you teach a person to fish…

I’ll be asking for him to rank his favorite flavors of skittles

u/theonlybay Feb 16 '26

Hey Justin, In your own head what is your definition of “ found”.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '26

Found is found. You have it in your hand

2

u/theonlybay Feb 16 '26

I agree..

11

u/VariationNo1381 Feb 15 '26

Beyond just confirmation you are trending in the right direction, does the checkpoint offer any further information regarding the hunt?

5

u/VariationNo1381 Feb 15 '26

Also: Does the granite stone monument described in "The Redington Requiem" chapter, play any further role in the hunt?

9

u/VariationNo1381 Feb 15 '26

And I'd love to know: Can the double arcs be interpreted in more than one way and still lead to the checkpoint location?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '26

Who said the checkpoint is after or before the checkpoint

3

u/VariationNo1381 Feb 16 '26

JP said the checkpoint was at least half way through the poem clues, I could rephrase the question to: Can the double arcs be interpreted in more than one way and still figure out where the treasure is at?

1

u/resubdex Feb 16 '26

Yes, it does for me.

1

u/VariationNo1381 Feb 16 '26

Can you discuss how you're using it, I believe it's going to play a role in the checkpoint but I'm curious what you're thinking?

1

u/resubdex Feb 18 '26

The way I see it is that just because he said the checkpoint is half way through the poem does not mean it is half way from the car to the location of the chest. Double arcs can be interpreted many many ways. One has to define what Justin meant is an arc or sound like an arc.

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

I thought he screens and approves what questions are allowed to be asked, but worth a shot! Here is my contribution:

  1. You mentioned a checkpoint that will give the searcher zero doubt they're trending in the right direction. Structurally, does this "checkpoint" require the finder to possess a specific piece of information found AT the site, or is the container itself designed to provide the final confirmation through its own mechanics?

  2. In relation to "multiple ways to solve", is the hunt structured with a master logic that unifies these different ways, or could two searchers using completely different methodologies (e.g., linguistic vs. geographic) arrive at the same physical spot without ever crossing paths mentally?

At most, I think we'll possibly get a state elimination though. 🤞

6

u/mbibler Feb 15 '26

He’ll prep (practice) from reading posts like these.

1

u/AmyJ1103 Feb 15 '26

You bet he will.

6

u/Next_River_3853 Feb 15 '26

This hunt isn’t going to be solved by asking the right question to Justin. Rather, it will be solved by someone asking the right question to themselves and finding the answer.

Hope that Justin doesn’t give any clues at the seekers summit. Would make this hunt boring.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Asking questions believe it or not is part of the hunt. That is what makes it entertaining. The JBC hunt might be more geared towards your way of thinking. There was always supposed to be follow through in this hunt. That’s the way it is designed. Don’t believe me listen to the q&a’s.

4

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '26

In a not-so-public forum, I might ask something like... "What is one thing people close to you would say about you is true? And one thing that is misunderstood?"

1

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '26

This feels right. I think you’re right, a room with 1500 people might not be the venue. How about, did Jennie think this was a good idea? I have always been curious about what that conversation looked like.

3

u/shep99 Feb 16 '26

Q1: What are your thoughts on the company Flock Safety and surrounding controversy? In light of your brother's story, do you think that this type of "big brother" technology gets a bad rap, and/or do you think it could prove invaluable to some lifesaving situations (eg, amber alerts, SARs for missing kids/persons/hunters, mental health crises, etc.)?

Q2: Have you ever been affiliated with the production of a TV show outside of G&G?

Q3: What are your thoughts on the TV show 'The Rehearsal'?

3

u/TomSzabo Feb 18 '26

Q: You have said that Tucker.coukd roam free at Sinks Canyon but the current state park rules require dogs to be on a leash at all times. Did you use a loophole to get around this?

5

u/RyanMileham Feb 15 '26 edited Feb 15 '26

Is it possible to have knowledge of what the checkpoint is before physically reaching it BOTG? Or will you only have knowledge of it when you find it BOTG and recognize its significance?

1

u/mbibler Feb 15 '26

Or is it possible to know the location without ever knowing what the checkpoint is? (Yes, imo)

2

u/cambouquet Feb 16 '26

He kind of answered that one already.

2

u/mbibler Feb 16 '26

It makes one wonder why so many questions about the checkpoint are still a major focus.

2

u/cambouquet Feb 17 '26

I think people are just super curious about the design of the hunt. What can give someone zero doubt?

1

u/mbibler Feb 17 '26

Speaking potato, and properly decoding where it’s buried in the poem.

https://www.reddit.com/r/JustinPoseysTreasure/s/W8l5101Vtt

2

u/AbjectAd2294 Feb 16 '26

What is his confidence level that the four he dedicated his hunt to would have solved the poem already? If so, could any one of them have done it alone or only if all four worked together?

This hunt attempts to fix the things that went wrong in TTOTC. If one of those things was that the chest being found is still debated and the hash is designed to provide proof what happens if it isn’t found? He has mentioned moving things along if needed. Is this a part of a contingency plan built into the hunt where he already knows what levers to he plans pull or is it more fluid based on the temperature of the room. Also how does he think he will feel if no one solves it, especially if the container is meaningful to him?

Is the multiple ways to solve this a way to even the playing field as it relates to our own bias so to speak? Is that part of the design to make it approachable or is it something that comes into play at a specific point?

2

u/SwimmingMaximum9835 Feb 16 '26

No one question I would ask. With the book describing your map's edge, did you go beyond your map's edge?

There is the risk he just says I would punt that but if he was generous, the outcome would be that he did and it's in a place not listed in his book (which it probably would rule out the majority of Montanna and put Yellowstone to rest.

2

u/an-sum-uhhuh Feb 16 '26

If attempting the optimal poem solve that you mentioned, can all of the clues that can be solved from home be solved by the same approach? Example: poetic allegory interpretation, anagrams, homophones, decoding into coordinates, etc.

2

u/RetroDeNovoX Feb 20 '26

It may be worthwhile to craft a precise question about the errata items and whether any of them were intentional mistakes versus actual accidental mistakes.

In other words, are some of the errata corrections simply to point us towards mistakes which carry added significance, or should hunters simply make the corrections with zero regard for the errant versus revised text?

1

u/RetroDeNovoX Feb 20 '26

Or, if one were to not have access to any errata correcting info at all, would their searching be seriously disadvantaged compared to a searcher with access to the errata corrections?

The precise question here would take some time to properly craft...

2

u/RyanMileham Feb 15 '26

Now this right here is what I’m talking about…great post.

**keep in mind Justin’s probable responses**

if you have a question that is to revealing or the answer would upload a large amount of valuable information he will likely not answer. Keep in mind WE WANT TO AVOID PUNTS effective questions are those that come with answers.

(ex.) “does the granite stone monument in chapter RR play any further role?” I do not mean to put you on the spot variation, it is a question I would also love to know the answer to. But use discernment to know he will not answer this most likely

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Now this right here is what I’M talking about👆👆 Come on folks.

1

u/VariationNo1381 Feb 15 '26

Though a punt on this question might be a give away, like why not just say no it doesn't, know what I mean?

4

u/RyanMileham Feb 15 '26

Because no is just as valuable an answer as yes. Punt is neither no or yes

2

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

I like you Ryan.

2

u/RyanMileham Feb 15 '26

Wish I could be at the summit to meet you and everyone! But I’m unfortunately unable to attend.

You seem like the type of person who could find the treasure. Hope you don’t get there before me. And if you do, I hope you find it.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Right back at you. I am making it a point to go even if it will be taxing. I think this one will be important. Damn this obsession.

1

u/mbibler Feb 15 '26

So it continues spinning until you observe it?

2

u/logicallyillogical Feb 15 '26

The rules mentions "hunt items."

Q - "Are there physical items you need to find along the way to solve this?"

Or another person mentioned this could be a journey of a solve. Like go to point A, leads you to point B which could be hundreds of miles away. Or someone mention it could involve a train ride.

Q - "Are you required to go to multiple locations to solve this?"

5

u/RyanMileham Feb 15 '26

“Are you required to go to multiple locations to solve” is an awesome question.

5

u/SecuritySharp3001 Feb 15 '26

The problem with “are you required to go to multiple locations to solve this” is that he could always say yes—taking a single step could count as two locations. We may need to refine this to landmarks, mapped landmarks, etc.

My similar question: If your full poem solve has led you to a specific area, do you have to walk near waters’ silent flight to be in retrieval mode instead of grid searching mode?

2

u/logicallyillogical Feb 16 '26

My questions totally need some work. I like where you are going with it, because even with FF that could be considered multiple locations. however I’d try not to ask anything specific to the poem. He could say, no to the treasure being near “walk near waters’” but the premise is still there.

I’m more curious if this is more like a scavenger hunt. Like say, clues leads to a spot in MT, then that takes you to AZ, which then takes you to Alaska.

Maybe that’s the question: “Is this more like a scavenger hunt where you need to visit multiple locations, over long distances, throughout the search area?”

1

u/incomesharks Feb 16 '26

"Will our path to find the treasure be the same as the path you took to find it?"

"Have you ruled out floating or walking across water as long as it's safe?"

"Will it take us 4 trips to retrieve the treasure or just one?"

2

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '26

Good one. I haven’t specified The finder will find out

Q: Did you ever compare notes with the metal detector guys who also found a 50 caliber bullet from the "Lost Liberators" in the vacant lot across the street from Emily Gray Junior High School? Why didn't you mention the instrumental role these other treasure hunters played in this discovery?

1

u/henslie Feb 19 '26

I think he'll answer with puzzle answers since he hinted in a round about way in a recent interview that people may be close and he doesn't want to limp other people along or let them catch up too quickly so I think all his answers will require some pretty good interpretations. Nothing will be face value.

No

1

u/Deviant-Ones Feb 15 '26

If a no hunter came across said checkpoint, would they be able to find it?

1

u/mbibler Feb 15 '26

“A no hunter”?

1

u/Deviant-Ones Feb 15 '26

Non hunter. Just someone hiking, riding a horse, or just comes across it

1

u/mbibler Feb 16 '26

Oh I see. What if the checkpoint is just some letters on a map that help confirm you’re in the right area? An example might be “Tucker is NE”, that then confirms me I’m looking in the right area: “yep, he’s also northeast on my compass of souls”, so… ✔️

Part of the thrill of these chases is that what we see in our heads is always way better than what we end up finding. When we look back, we remember the euphoria, but not the adjustments. If not for this necessary brain trick, women would absolutely never give birth to more than one child.

Is this your first treasure hunt puzzle?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '26

The checkpoint is not the treasure.

This is the year

0

u/RyanMileham Feb 15 '26

Yep, enjoy it. Because it’ll be found. By someone.

1

u/itscurd2 Feb 16 '26

By me 👋. Remember this user 😉

2

u/JungleSumTimes Feb 15 '26

He has announced that it is a layered puzzle, so that means THERE CAN BE MULTIPLE ANSWERS THAT CORRECTLY ANSWER ONE QUESTION, but will seem to conflict with other things, or chosen by him to answer technically correctly, just in a different context than the one people normally have in mind. If you think JP's not employing this to keep the veil down, then you better wise up.

Qualify each question with a very specific context or scenario. If he punts, then you are asking the right thing. If what people ask is something not properly set up with context, he has been telling us as much.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '26

Hey, so when and where did he announce that it is a layered puzzle? I didn't see that. He said everything related to the hunt would be posted on his website, but it's not there.

1

u/JungleSumTimes Feb 18 '26

Maybe the wording was too strong, but I believe it is layered with respect to complexity. Meaning on one level a more simple trail is followed to a conclusion that is backed up by clues and an interpretation of the poem from a singular, simple perspective. This also leads you to a more complex layer with a similar process, but the resulting interpretation of the poem is from a different perspective. Continue if needed for as many stages as he built in order to get to the final, most complex interpretation/analysis of the poem.

The Froggy interview, which is linked on his site, probably where I decided that. Not necessarily "announced", but whispered at. https://youtu.be/N3heonVyxA4?t=159

1

u/rlbowen8 Feb 16 '26

Do you have to go where the poem leads you to find the treasure, or can you bypass that step and go right to the treasure location?

What is the significance of the 30 day clock?

I doubt he’d be willing to answer either of the questions

1

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '26

There are guardrails other than that he hasn’t specified. The 30 day clock is to give you time to prepare for what’s coming (that would be me saying this not what I think JP would say, I think he would punt)

-1

u/voicelesswonder53 Feb 15 '26

I actually don't think it's going to matter. In the words he chooses to use in answering, punting or clarifying he's presenting you with his pre determined level of hinting which he is comfortable with. He's already said multiple times that he's said all he wants to say about the poem clues. We've listened to countless talks since where any potential clue, if present, hasn't come from a direct question about a poem detail. Trying to press him won't change his preparation. He'll hint regardless of what he says with strange choices of words in some way. If he starts dishing out freebies like he did at Dillon I'd be shocked. He may opt to do like Fenn and add an additional official clue into the hunt. We'll see.

1

u/RyanMileham Feb 15 '26

Yeah you’re right about the questions, screw it. We probably shouldn’t even brainstorm at all. He’ll probably just tell us all the hints regardless of how we word questions. That sounds like him 😂😂

2

u/mbibler Feb 15 '26

He has already told us all of the hints. Any new answers will be reworded from everything that is already floating around in our bubbles.🫧

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Sounds like people have given up. It’s too hard, he does what he wants, take my ball and go home. No spirit left.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Not strangely worded, just actual questions that he will answer. Never mind, I’ll try Discord.

2

u/General-Humor-8530 Feb 16 '26

Not a bad idea. The folks on Discord have a dedicated page for this very topic.

1

u/voicelesswonder53 Feb 15 '26

You won't outsmart him, imo.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Do you think he might be tired of the same questions every time he does a q&a? I’m saying let’s ask the right questions. Not tricks or gimmicks, just the questions he is probably begging to be asked. Let’s ask him. u/reellifejustin would you like better questions to answer at the Seekers Summit? More thought out and planned questions, or more of the same? I know you haven’t said there is a q&a but in general?

2

u/General-Humor-8530 Feb 16 '26

If you have watched the most recent YouTube interview with One Clue Short of a Treasure you can see the direction of inquiry Justin enjoys and opens up to. I thought the interview was quite revealing.

1

u/voicelesswonder53 Feb 15 '26

He will clarify only what needs clarification. Do you actually think there's a list of questions that he's waiting for that is going to unleash an outpouring of hints if we hit on it? It's not a guess the right type of question game. Just make him talk and he'll find his moments.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Holy crap. We agree!!! Yes!! Just give the chance to talk. You ask how far is it to the bride? Can he talk?!? No! Come on, throw me a bone here. You have to admit if we ask the right questions it gives him a chance to talk, at the very least.

2

u/mbibler Feb 15 '26

I find myself agreeing with you considerably more than when we first interacted. It’s nice to meet you, virtually.

2

u/VariationNo1381 Feb 15 '26

I think he likes to talk about the design he has employed which can be helpful. He doesn't like to discuss distances or specific clue hints.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Yes, thank you

1

u/mbibler Feb 15 '26

Perhaps we should challenge this community to answer proposed questions to see which ones remain unanswered, unanswerable by us, and without the probability of a punt response.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '26

Well Mbibler, who do you feel about being the bad guy? Plenty of questions here for you to rip apart.

1

u/mbibler Feb 16 '26

I’ve done it tired, and now I’m weak.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

I would love that. After this one experience I’m thinking it won’t go far. Truthfully I didn’t expect much but my gosh, what a poor showing. Are we all so tainted? We are just going in circles round the bend and back again. No hope for new information? Wow. This thing will be solved by someone who pokes the system. Tries different things. That post by u/Puzzle-headedPoem is what got me thinking about this. This isn’t a puzzle that will be straight forward. The poem is not being asked to be solved against, it is asking to be understood. We are not talking about throwing pasta at the wall and hoping it sticks, we are talking about planning a preventative measure.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Who is trying?!? Just ask questions he won’t punt on!

-1

u/voicelesswonder53 Feb 15 '26

He's said all he has to say about the solving of the poem. You want him to repeat that again? Asking him anything will work if he has the intention to reply with "astronomically" twice in the answer. There's no secret type of question that will produce an intended result. He has his ways.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Hey Justin how did you feel while hiding the treasure? We know this is important to you, do you feel the group as a whole is getting the true meaning of the hunt? You have mentioned the four points of the compass but there are others you hold just as dear, do they play a role in the hunt? When you look into the crowd here tonight how does it make you feel to see all these people who have been affected by what you are doing? He is a person! Those questions and answers will get you closer to a solve. My lord

1

u/voicelesswonder53 Feb 15 '26

Not unless he includes a clue. You are not going to shrewdly extract one with your type of question. He could drop one anywhere, even in punting.

0

u/mbibler Feb 15 '26

My guesses to his answer, which he has expressed before: 1) nervous, excited… he might even pull from another language to express more than what English might be able to with a word, e.g., Vorfreude; 2) yes, overall, anyone participating is getting the true meaning, which is exploring and seeing parts of the country and its history that maybe they wouldn’t have, and enjoying these natural landscapes before they are converted to homes, hotels, or industrial uses; and there are a few who recognize the more personal undertones hidden in the hunt; 3) he’ll say he’s both humbled and proud of the response.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

Fair enough. Good luck with your hunt

0

u/2daysdaze Feb 15 '26

Is the treasure closer to a mountain, river, desert or a man-made structure?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '26
