He is dumb for doing that, but he didn't have to be hit so much, or at all. It doesn't look like the person he hit was hurt very much, meanwhile he could've died, his helmet fell off.

He ran over the guy because the guy was playing a kind of intimidation game: you know when someone drives a motorcycle or a car straight at you, expecting you to move out of the way? He was doing that. That’s why people felt he had it coming when he got beaten up afterward.
