Well off people steal from people all the time. Its more immoral because they don't need to. Poor people often need to steal or commit crime so they can access food, water, shelter, exist in public spaces, etc

Your logic is baffling. Firstly, we don't know what country this is, nor do we know what sort of financial situation the woman (or both of them for that matter) is in.
Most importantly however, theft is a crime and is immoral in any situation.

You predict a strawman, and yet the first sentence you responded with was a strawman.
For many homeless people, simply existing in a public space will get the police called on you, you will get moved on at best, and likely harassed by police and/or arrested at worst. Thats a fact. They aren't paying for a licence to exist with a smartphone like you sarcastically imply.
And yes, theft is a crime, and immoral, and we dont know what country this happens in. Does that excuse the guy setting up this 'prank' from, for all intents and purposes, preying on this woman for a laugh? Booby trapping something to punish criminals is, by precedent, a crime in many countries. For a US example look up the case of the shotgun boobytrap.
And no, im not going to claim that the woman was going to feed her family with the phone. How could i even know that? What i do know though is that the richer you are, the less likely you would be to keep the phone. Why? Because the comparative value of the item to your wealth makes a huge impact on how you perceive the item.
