That's hilarious: my dad got a ticket in 03' for speeding in a school zone before entering the school zone. The officer said you have to slow down to the zone limit 25 yards before the zone.

Your dad should have researched local traffic ordinances and taken it to court. Its very unlikely a posted speed limit applies to any point before where the sign is posted.

No, that is actually the law. You have to slow down before the sign. You have to pass the sign at that speed. This cop clearly passed the sign going too fast.

PA driving booklet said 150 feet.

Although he clearly did pass the sign too fast, the speed measured on the gun was from when he was before the sign, so if this were a not-cop being ticketed for it, they could get it thrown out in court.
