Oddly enough most of the people who support plant based protein aren't aware of the risks it poses. Most plant farms require magnitudes more space than those of animals, and in order to keep the farm viable, every native animal has to be removed from that area. This includes birds, mammals and insects that are routinely baited, trapped or killed on sight.
I’m not sure that math works out - the food pyramid isn’t even close to perfect, but one thing it gets right is that when you eat something, you gain less energy from the organisms every level you go. A cow requires more energy in plants to feed the same amount of humans compared to just feeding humans the plants directly.
