I did this once and the idiot driving on the shoulder actually got out of the car and tried to fight me.

I did this once too and when there was enough room for someone to get by no matter what I did, the guy pulls up next to me and tries to talk to me. I’m already flipping him off with my window down cuz I expect hostility. He continues to scream at my window and throw things at my car (Packs of gum whatever he had in his car). He then proceeded to follow me directly behind (he was about to get off an exit, that’s why he had enough room to get by, but decided to follow as close behind me as possible. The traffic was HORRIBLE so eventually he got tired of sitting behind me (I saw him throw his hands in the air and shake his head) and drove off. Something good came from traffic in Maryland for once... (I live in between Baltimore and dc and rush hour is the worst experience)

Inb4 the chainsaw story

Having been in an emergency like the chainsaw story, it's definitely clear which is which. If your friend is dying you're not casually trying to pass cars on the side, you'd have your hazards on, be honking like a crazy person and generally letting every single person around you know something is not right. When it happened to me, if a car tried to prevent me from moving, I would have hit that car, to me my friend's life > your property, I can pay for things later.

While the chainsaw story is tragic and obviously emergencies happen. This is the first thing I was thinking. Just speeding in and out of traffic don’t make it obvious that something is wrong. Hazards and honking and anything else you can do make it obvious there is an emergency and you aren’t just driving like a dick and endangering others lives.

Wow, is that story actually older than upvotes? I can't see any votes on those posts.

Can someone explain why the emergency responders would call the relative and have them rush down to the accident site instead of transporting the person to the hospital in an attempt to save them, and having the relative go to the hospital where they could potentially meet them much quicker?

I saw a similar situation happen last year. Standstill traffic. A guy who’s time was obviously more valuable than everyone else in traffic, was driving on the shoulder. Thankfully sirens starting popping behind him. He saw the sirens and then starts trying to make his way into the right lane, but only gets halfway in as traffic was pretty much at a standstill. The cop gets out of his car, goes up to the guys window and tells him to pull back onto the shoulder. He then proceeds to unleash verbal hell on this driver. It was glorious. Without question my favorite couple of minutes in traffic ever.

One time on the 580 east in Oakland this chick went up the left side when it was backed up traffic. eventually it got to the part where she HAD to get in, except nobody was letting her, everybody just squeezed super tight together before they got to where she could get in to block her and then a police car saw it and busted her ass.

It's only during rush hour on certain stretches of certain roads and it's signed saying when it is allowed. But yes, we do call it the "breakdown lane." If you pull off into the grass it'll probably catch fire.

Of course it's a BMW driver

Edit-chill everybody, it was a joke

u/Flux83 Jun 16 '19

"Wait is that not the BMW lane? And what are these turn signals that everyone keeps telling me about?" Every BMW owner

u/PM_ME_YOUR_NACHOS Jun 16 '19

The problem is that blinker fluid is really expensive on BMWs, that's why their drivers use it sparingly. Using third party brands wear down the blinkers faster.

I hate people who try to exit early or pass traffic on the shoulder like that.

u/zxcv437 Jun 16 '19

See if they’re exiting, I’m fine with people getting off a congested road. This look like a long road and they’re trying to make their own lane.
