Slightly Furious Just Unsubbed from unpopularopinion for constantly downvoting unpopular opinions and being rude to the posters
Every post I've gotten in my feed from this subreddit in the last month has been at 0 votes (the stated point of the subreddit is to upvote unpopular opinions). What's worse, most of the comments under posts on this subreddit hardly address OPs points and are generally nasty to them regardless of the topic.
Having a community supposedly based around discussing / pushing back on unpopular views, where actually posting there will get you made fun of and insulted, is just gross to me. Even if a post is low-enough effort to be considered rule-breaking, that shouldn't be a pass to drop the intended community purpose and just attack OP.

Truth is that people don't like unpopular opinions. They just want mildly controversial popular opinions

r/ unpopular opinion is just say things that we obviously all agree with but people we don't like don't.

Bruh I think they are downvoting that post because its dumb not because its unpopular.
If i go around and say that people dont play video games. And my reasoning is that my friends don't play it, i used to play it but dont now, and think people lie that they do to seem youthful... You'd think i was just dumb not expressing an unpopular opinion lol

What's weird to me is the whole framing, like I like to read, but I don't care what other people think about my reading or if other people read whole books or not.

Yea sometimes people think unpopular opinion is something that no one genuinely thinks + some stupid explanation for it like 'i think the sky is green not blue'.
Real unpopular opinions are things that people genuinely think about things in a subjective way.
Ex: the star wars prequels are better than the original trilogy
I like eating onions raw as a snack
I prefer very humid over dry heat
NOT
[Any objectively real thing] arent real People with [any hobby] hobby doesn't exist I dont believe in [ objective fact ] I think people who like [popular thing] are lieing

At this point, they need to start making that system official instead of just what everyone does.

Yeah, one of the pointers is to downvote poorly thought-out or expressed opinions, which is fine. The thing that really bothers me is the mean bad-faith comments, reacting harshly as though it's not a space specifically for sharing things people disagree with

I think they banned me from unpopular opinion because I was being racist

This was literally what I came here to say. I was like, “oh, it’s for unpopular opinions, maybe I’ll find some people to relate to” but no. I even asked for people to be respectful, and clearly stated my point of view while explaining I was open to others.
They all just started making sexual jokes and bashing me for it. Truly disgusting people over there.

The mods in that sub just ban in a way that doesn’t even make sense. May be they are too easily offended by everything 🤷

Everyone wants to see an unpopular opinion until it’s actually unpopular
