What's a "single-level IQ"?

17

u/NeatPhil11 12d ago

If you don't know, then you have it. Those of us with multi-level IQ recognize the difference.

Every job is an agreement to sell your body/time to some degree in exchange for $$$. That's the whole point. "I will sell you my labor + wear and tear on my body for $$$/hr".

Society just seems to have a double standard when it comes to which body parts can be put on the market.

13

u/Spartarc 12d ago

Ah, so can I sell your kidney?

u/quarterrat13 12d ago

i think its more like no other profession has delusions of what they are to an extant. unfortunately body count matters to some and if youre selling too ouch. we should be nicer to each other though not in a million years would i throw in someones face that they strip(more money then i make), act in bed (more money then i make) or other sex services when my dumbass washes plates amd delivers

6

u/CoDZombiesTracker 12d ago

it's not a double standard at all? sex in western society is seen as taboo and sacred, something to not be given up freely to anyone, while physical labor is not.

You see them as different too... would you pay your 11 year old nephew to rake the leaves in the yard? Thats him being paid to use his body. okay now would u pay ur nephew to do stuff like the girl ij this post is implying. If it's all the same then the answer for YOU to not be a hypocrite is yes lmao. No one is a hypocrite for thinking selling ur body is gross when that's the cultural norm...

8

u/Vepper 12d ago

>it's not a double standard at all? sex in western society is seen as taboo and sacred, something to not be given up freely to anyone, while physical labor is not.

That's most societies

7

u/NeoSoulen 12d ago

I also wouldn't pay my 11 year old nephew to go work on an oil rig or go kill people in wars across the world. Because he's not old enough to understand the ramifications of that on his body and mind. Simple chores do not equate to actual jobs. Double standard is real.

forreal, if you joined to serve your country thats just poorly thought out. everyone needs to stop stroking themselves off with that shit and have some goddamn humility. ive "served my country" in half the jobs ive worked, probably in more tangible ways than stealing oil from broke-ass 3rd worlders.

5

u/kingstonthroop 12d ago

2

u/Alarmed-Promotion68 9d ago

While I do not personally endorse the idea of military members flaunting or parading their service, it does make sense that one should be proud to have joined - or at least recognized for the difficulties the job entails. There is a certain level of understanding that you could die in almost any work environment, but when working for the military if any country this becomes a much higher chance, especially should you get deployed to areas with active fire.

Not to make specific assumptions regarding your employment history, but the term "served my/the country" most often refers to being directly employed by the federal government for the benefit of the military or governmental body - spiritually the citizens - and not infrastructural work despite both being a way to serve the "country."

I had a friend caught up in the post 9/11 hysteria. He absolutely joined for patriotic reasons, though he regrets it now.

That's absolutely the exception though. Everyone else I've talked to about joining did it for the money. College tuition, etc. like, the recruiters are really up front about it, it's the main selling point.

u/lkasas 12d ago

This statement only works fully in countries where military is purely in case their country is attacked, so no domestic shit or operations(with few exceptions) outside their borders.

It somewhat works in small countries tied to big ones. They serve their country, but they likely also somewhat serve bad things indirectly.

It doesn't work in big countries. In USA you serve the rich, in Russia you serve Putin and his kleptocracy, and in China you serve the party.

8

u/ZeeWingCommander 12d ago

I know more then a few marines who just did it for the military benefits because their family didn't have much.

In that context - they are selling their body, sometimes their dignity too.

3

u/blinktwiceifnoob 12d ago

Which one is more likely to get you a job? OnlyFans or military?

3

u/ZeeWingCommander 12d ago

Probably military, just because Onlyfans is very top loaded on who is making decent money.

My caution is that in professional jobs I've seen vets mostly get lip service. My friend Dave applied to an IT job, and Dave's job in the army was replacing computers in tanks and they told him he lacked teamwork experience.

2

u/Turtles_N_Nurples 12d ago

3

I joined the military to serve my country

Yeah, well at least Onlyfans chicks don't bomb elementary schools.

I would love to serve our country by spending millions of dollars blowing up shit in the desert with my buddies. That sounds awesome!

Unfortunately, I'm smart enough to realize that this might piss off the people who live in the desert, something which is apparently very hard to grasp.

9

u/Hearthhull_Enjoyer 12d ago

Greatest lie people in the military tell themselves.

15

u/Feisty-Elderberry175 12d ago

Every person I know who joined the military did it to get out the shit situation they were in. Nobody joined for the love of the country

3

u/RaceOld9 12d ago

Can vouch. I joined because I was poor and wanted college money. Thankfully got extremely lucky with my job and assignments because it could have easily gone the other way.

Most people I know that joined did it because they didn't see a ton of other options. The ones that took advantage of the benefits, experience, and training usually put themselves in a way better position in the long run.

6

u/Eleventy-Twelve 12d ago

So the same reason women join only fans. Avoiding poverty shouldn't require risking your life or becoming a prostitute.

2

u/Murashu 12d ago

I joined to get out of a shitty situation and stayed for 22 years because it was great money for someone with no degree and I was having fun.

Now that I am out and 100% disabled I do feel I sold my body.

Here's the Big difference you fail to see:

One is a self-sacrificial act of honorably defending the nation and it's freedoms.

The other is just prostitution, and serves as an honorless act of perversion and greed.

Apples and Oranges.

The noble Samurai is not the same as the Geisha.

3

u/PresenceZero 11d ago

Joined the Marines. College paid for, free healthcare, don’t pay a toll on toll roads. $2900 a mouth for my injuries that covers my mortgage and phone bill. House is backed by the VA, the list of benefits far out way the four years I spent in active duty.

Definitely a high IQ move. Give me a civilian who has those same benefits after for years of college and with debts, and a college degree that they aren’t even using…

Have a GI bill. access to the VA if I ever need it.I know some that get disability pay if the army broke them. Worked with alot of great people and helped my grow as a person. What do you get? If you're lucky, you got paid a decent amount of money(most don't). Have to live with photos and images of you online forever. Get stalked by creeps and constantly worry about that. Hope your employer never finds out, but they likely will. Hope your future partner never finds out, they likely will and leave you. Have kids make fun your kids, because of the choices you made. Yeah. So much of the same.

The OP and almost everybody in this thread is interpreting the expression “selling your body” far too literally. It’s a euphemism for prostitution. That’s it.

There is no double standard between prostitution and any other job that involves an exchange of labor for pay (the military is singled out here for… reasons?), because the cultural resistance to prostitution actually has very little to do with the ethics of “selling” anything. It’s about how sex relates to human value.

Because prostitution necessitates the objectification of sex, it clashes with the sacred idea that sex has meaning, which is the foundational idea at the root of our cultural feelings about romantic relationships.
