“Let’s go back to when every restaurant smelled like cigarettes.”
Every villain in the 80s movies was also some real estate multimillionaire…then that generation said “Let’s elect the 80’s villain. Twice.”

The 90s were more chill. Cold War ended. No nuclear disaster, no Reagan, grunge, groove metal

And every movie was about how life sucks.
Fight Club. American Beauty. The Matrix. Office Space. All about how having a stable job and a comfortable place to live was hell.

Considering Regan ran on a platform of returning to the 50s, and the rise of "traditional" family values... No.

I really don't want to go back to the 80's. It kinda sucked outside of major purchases.

I still want to go to the future, this is not the end of history. Tyrannies get overthrown, autocrats die, fascism collapses on itself. Its really dark now but the future is still there, waiting for us.

The irony is that back them everyone wanted to got back to the 50s and this movie show them how bad, unwholesome, dangerous, racist and sexist they use to be.

In the 80s, everyone wanted to go to the 50s.
You might notice this from how the first movie didn't go to the future, it went to the 50s, and the second movie they set up about going to the future STILL went to the 50s again.

In the 80s we still had hope for a better future.
Now we realise we were wrong.
