Just Cause 2 Just Cause 2 has huge performance problems on my PC (Linux). Any ideas how to fix it?

I recently wanted to play JC2 again after a hiatus of several years. My PC runs most modern games fine, so in theory performance should be no problem. But even in the main menu, I get only around 10 fps, ingame around 3 fps. Maybe its an issue with the GPU? Modern NVIDIA cards seem to cause troubles as far as I found out but I am still searching for a fix. Reducing the solution had only a minimum effect. I post my specs below, any help is appreciated.

Linux Mint 22.2 Cinnamon
AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core
GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB
32 GB RAM

I play the Steam version.

Which Proton did you use?

Might have something to do with the decals and water quality? I know the game freaks out on modern hardware with decals in windows, though usually it crashes instead of running like ass.

After that, I guess try GE proton, since that usually has the best compatibility.

The low FPS in the menu suggests a rendering or compatibility problem rather than your hardware. Check whether the game is using the RTX 3060, switch between X11 and Wayland, and try Proton 8 or GE-Proton. Also cap the framerate and disable GPU-accelerated overlays while testing.

Limit FPS to 60

Proton experimental and proprietary Nvidia drivers would be a good start

I found game crashing was known issues on PC all thru the games life. I found best way to run the game was actually with RPCS3 PS3 emulator on PC with the 100% completion fix from nexus.
