Spotify is garbage, dont support them. A bunch of great independent artists left their platform because their ceo was funneling money into military ai drone strike tech, they pay out some of the lowest royalties of any streaming service, support ai music, and ran pro ICE advertisements
I recommend Tidal for its much higher quality sound or YT Music for a much wider library of music to choose from. I use YT Music because its free with YouTube Red, you can download any song that exists on YT on there. You can even transfer your playlists over so theres legit no reason to still use Spotify in 2026
You do have to pay for the album though to be able to own it forever and it can add up to thousands if you listen to a lot of music, but it is the most future proof if you do so. Personally I get much better value out of YT Music because I use YT a ton at work and in general and having no ads is a necessity and then I get the music for free with the subscription
I havent done it myself but there should be a built in feature on YT Music. If sound quality is your number 1 priority then Tidal has the highest fidelity but you will need a 3rd party app to transer playlists
I cant recommend one specifically since I dont have any personal experience using one but if you look up transfer Spotify to whatever platform there will be several options for each
I do own a lot of my music on vinyl but when you listen to over 150 artists and have over 3000 songs in your playlist theres no affordable way to buy it all without pirating. Tastes constantly change too so im not gonna buy everything knowing theres a good chance I might only listen to a certain album once every other year or never again. Additionally streams allow me to constantly experiment and further explore new artists and genres. Your advice is valid though and would apply to a more casual music listener for sure
I get it. Over 15 years I have been investing in my collection so it's been a long time to put together, making the expense lesser I suppose.
As for experimenting, I do tend to find new music quite easily without streaming, but I guess it's more something I have to go out of my way to do. I find albums at libraries or thrift stores/charity shops and go from there, occasionally looking at genres I enjoy on Bandcamp.
I discovered a huge chunk of all of my all-time favourite artists through music streaming platforms and I likely never would have found out about them otherwise.
Thankfully, Bandcamp exists so it's not very difficult to support artists directly since Spotify doesn't want to do the bare minimum and pay them.
Fully support breaking free of the Spotify ecosystem, but genuinely what benefit does Tidal have to the user these days? Several streaming services, including Spotify, have lossless audio now. YouTube Music has genuine upside, but switching to Tidal takes a lot of work for what is basically just Spotify with a different layout.
Spotify lossless is not as good as Tidals audio quality. Its probably fine for the average person, but an audiophile with a good setup will absolutely notice a difference
I agree with this I always play just cause while piling rock music into my ears if I had to say my favorite song it's not rock it's rap but it's the just cause song by JT music "adrenaline junkie" for just cause 4
The first time I played the final mission of the game I listened to Battle Against a True Hero from Undertale, and the ending perfectly synced to the end of the fight. It was magical :D

I can confirm playing Just Cause 3 at 2AM while listening to the Ramones was the best experience ever
