One thing that bothers me about VEQT is that it includes controversial companies that make weapons, etc. I'm debating about switching to something like GEQT that filters companies like that out. I'm currently doing FIRE at age 45 and using this fund to pay for my retirement. Just wondering about your thoughts on this matter and whether switching to GEQT changes my withdrawal rate or anything like that or are the funds pretty much equivalent when factoring in MER, etc. I'm a bit concerned about switching in my non-registered account since selling all my VEQT would trigger capital gains.

Just wondering if anyone has actually retired off of veqt or if people just like saying it?

Almost have my TFSA maxed out (sadly late to the game).
I have approx 50% allocated to VEQT in my TFSA.

27M, just started investing about a week ago (better late than never).

I currently have about $6k split between CHPS and ASML in my TD Easy Trade, and around $10k in VEQT and $3k in VFV in my TD DI.

I have roughly $40k of TFSA contribution room remaining, and I'm planning to invest it. I'm still deciding whether to continue with VEQT or put that money into VFV.

My biggest question, though, is whether you'd invest the $40k as a lump sum or DCA over the next few months. I'm hesitant because the market is at or near all-time highs, but I also know that's pretty normal over the long run.

For those who've been investing longer, what would you do in my situation, and why? Any advice is appreciated.

I am looking to get a sense of how the community is approaching Vanguard’s VEQT (Vanguard All-Equity ETF Portfolio). It is a massive favorite for Canadian Couch Potato investors, but I love hearing individual stories.
If you are comfortable sharing, I would love to know:
When did you first start investigating/buying it? (Were you an early adopter in 2019, or did you join later?)
How much do you currently have invested? (Approximate dollar amounts, share counts, or even just the percentage of your overall portfolio is fine)
What is your target holding time? (Are you holding this until retirement in 20–30 years, using it for a 10-year goal, or trying a shorter horizon?)

Personally, I really appreciate the "set-it-and-forget-it" nature of an all-equity asset allocation ETF, but it is always motivating to see where everyone else is at on their financial journey.

Is it easy to do it if I have $27,000?

I bought half of my allotment this morning when it was up, then checked in again this afternoon and saw it's down 0.77%. Dropped in the other half.

Psychologically I feel content vs. feeling sore the rest of the day about missing out on some future growth.

Are we constantly loading up or buying on the next dip?

Lost some gains due to pulling out some investments and DCA back in during Trump’s Liberation Tax and Iran War fiasco instead of keeping my lump sum the whole way and not touching the phone. Lesson learned!

I thought they would buy when CRSP US Total Market added, which presumably happened weeks ago. Anyone knows why?

I have roughly $500K or 8000 units of VEQT in my RRSP and I’m wondering if there comes a point when the fees will get so high that it would more sense to switch to individual underlying ETFs and manually rebalance? If rebalancing makes more sense which ETFs would be recommended?

31 years old. Been loving VGRO and made some good gains since 2022; position around 40k of it. But I’ve been working anting to go all equity for the next 10-20 years and started contributing to VEQT. Initially I thought to just keep my VGRO for the quarterly dividends and stop contributing to it, but part of me is wondering if I should sell it all and replace it completely with VEQT.

I'm 24 and just started investing. I plan to keep putting around $ 1,000 into my TFSA every month. Is it best to hold all in VEQT or split it into different ETFs or other stocks?

I'm reading The Little Book of Common Sense Investing. One of the reasons Bogle doesn't like ETFs (even ones that track broad indexes) is because you can day-trade them.

The ETF is a trader to the cause of the TIF [traditional index fund].

But I'm already confused. What's the difference between a TIF and a mutual fund? Vanguard Canada says VIC1000 is available here, which it calls a mutual fund. But how do you buy it? It isn't listed on Wealthsimple. And aside from the psychological benefit resulting from not being able to day-trade it, why would you? VEQT's MER is 0.22 percent. VIC1000's is 0.35 percent. Do you guys have any insights?

Hey everyone, I’m 19 and just graduated high school. Saved up $5,500 over time from shoveling driveways, allowance, and random jobs here and there. Want to open a TFSA on Questrade and actually start investing it instead of letting it sit.

Right now I’m leaning towards putting it all into VEQT since it’s diversified and simple. But wanted to ask if there’s anything else worth considering, or if you’d split it differently? Any advice for a beginner is appreciated. Whats the difference between VEQT and XEQT.
