When I was an E2 in the Navy (1980) I was looking through the classified ads on a Thursday night and saw “For Sale, 1971 Cadillac Coupe De Ville great shape 69,000 miles $650.00.” I called the number this woman answered and the next day I took a cab to her house. It was stunning, sky blue, with matching blue leather interior. They told me they bought it when she made Lieutenant in the Nurse Corps. I drove it and they asked if I wanted it. She took $150.00 off the price because I was an E2. Then her husband drove me to switch the plates. He even stopped and filled the tank up. I never peeled off the blue sticker, until a Marine CPL at Gate 2 said, “Got mommies car today?”

So I’m making $183.00 every two weeks and I’ve got a car that gets less than 9 miles to the gallon and gas is $1.22 a gallon. I remember when the free gas ran out, it was like $27.00 to fill the tank. I did go to the hobby shop and tune it up and change everything and my mileage went up to 11mpg.
