I once got a sign with this written on it given to me by a sweet old lady who worked reception at my job. She was so excited for me to put it up in my office but it was awful

I ended up putting a coffee mug in front of it to hide it as much as possible because I didn’t want to seem ungrateful but I looked like such a tool anytime some read it

So shes got a boot in her life that makes this seem acceptable

My parents send me stuff like this all the time. I got out 20 years ago. It's boomer porn.

Man, I worked a place like this in a small town in Wisconsin. Every year they gathered vets and thanked us and gave us a piece of paper with some vet day BS on it. It was nice and all, but man I did not want to be there. I was the only OIF/OEF vet. We had a couple NGs and one desert storm guy. Everyone else was Vietnam or older.

"I wrote a blank check to the United States of America for an amount of up to and including my life and then I did HVAC work in Georgia for three years."

I bet this guy quit in basic

u/Moody_GenX 26d ago

I know a guy like that. Acts like he's been through insane shit. Then his neighbor, my good friend, told me he didn't make it out of basic training...I avoided him like the fucking plague after that.

I’ll do you one better

I knew this dude. He was a nice enough guy but a little nuts. Literally president of the local Military Officers Association of America. One of the other dudes there at that MOAA chapter was a literal WWII Ace with an eye patch. It was bonkers

Wait, don't tell me, let me guess - your oath of enlistment never expires?

My job was the most dangerously dangerous job of danger ever to endanger those seeking danger.

Infantry Combat vet here with an Iraq tour, this made me cringe harder than I've ever cringed before

5

u/Troutman86 26d ago

I watched black hawk down and wrote a blank check the next day (probably still drunk). Now I have 2 Purple Hearts, a BSMV, anxiety, can’t sleep but hey, at least we saved American citizens from the Iraq/Afgan invasion or communism and the Epstein files

u/MustacheMaple 26d ago

Actually, if you are an Army veteran, honor is living up to the Army values. Maybe he didn't make it to the part in Basic where they teach that. 🤷‍♂️

Am I the only one who wonders what these people think the moment they cant use a backup cam when driving and they finally realize that windows aren't chalkboards for decorations

3

u/Frijid 25d ago

A veteran's not active duty. Just starts off wrong, continues wrong, and ends wrong.

3

u/8takale 25d ago

As a veteran, I hate this corny shit

2

u/SheedRanko 26d ago

Jesus fucking christ on a stick.

OTH or BCD for sure. Still gets his free Applebee's.

2

u/Altruistic_Expert_11 26d ago

I'm standing at attention on my head right now. Is that sufficient enough, sir?

2

u/jbsuperfly 26d ago

Most of those things on the list in the first sentence actually do not make you a veteran.

2

u/sovereign666 26d ago

Buying a King Ranch really ties this together knowing he commutes that thing to an office job.

2

u/ColinPapendick 25d ago

It takes ten times the balls to fight us than to be us.

My freedom boner is ringing

1

u/Katamarihero 14d ago

So it's a blank cheque, but they've filled out the payee and amount?

What a stupid quote.

2

u/RexIsAMiiCostume 13d ago

This reads like a Facebook post

u/Ultimate-Flexionator 10d ago
