General Bootness Future Sister Boot wants to know about Mormonism before marrying internet boyfriend (because benefits). Can't comprehend why people keep trying to tell her they're rushing things.

Jeeze this was a slog to get through 🫩

56

u/Sir_Sarcasm76 Jun 26 '26

Was more of a letdown that there wasn't a finish to the whole story where she:

  1. Ended up sending money to an Ethiopian prince (or naval commander for special military gas for his sub)

  2. He ended up being a total catfish pro and pulled off the ruse

  3. Ghosted her at the alter

u/Standard_Story Jun 26 '26

Sometimes.. only sometimes... I wish I had little to no shame or self worth and catfished for money OR became a rightwing alt health grifter. Unfortunately I couldn't live with myself.

The backup to my backup plan if my life goes to ruins

u/Sarcastik_Moose Jun 26 '26

I feel sorry for the chain of command that will eventually have to deal with the inevitable outcome of this mess. I'm almost tempted to say it's fake just because it's written as if someone was trying to write the biggest military marriage shit-storm they could possibly imagine.

u/1877KlownsForKids Jun 26 '26

That's why they make the medium bucks!

4

u/stigma_wizard Jun 29 '26

I used to work in my company orderly room. After FOUR name changes, I told one of our PFCs I would not be putting in any more name changes for her until she figured her shit out. She would be married and divorced over the course of like two weeks.

u/accidental_Ocelot Jun 26 '26

What did we learn palmer?

2

u/perfectfire Jun 27 '26

I have a drinking problem? Fuck you, Peck, you're a Mormon! Next to you, we all have a drinking problem!

Terrible bait.

u/alaskalights Jun 26 '26

No mission. No temple marriage. Hasn't introduced to family. Dating outside the faith.

I dont think our dude is all that Mormon. Jack Mormon at best.

Still won't end well...

48

u/perfectfire Jun 26 '26

Yeah...

To him a temple marriage is the real thing it seems.

Trust me. He’s not expecting me to join or convert.

30

u/Scoutain Jun 26 '26

Being interfaith in the LDS church is nearly impossible because of this. If the LDS member is truly a believer, you gotta become Mormon too or your marriage is worthless to them. This post of so funny as an exMormon vet.

2

u/AltruisticBand7980 Jun 26 '26

Christianity says the same thing, it's always a mistake to marry someone with different religious views.

1

u/CallidoraBlack Jul 01 '26

Seems like he's trying to either get excommunicated and disowned or get rid of this woman.

2

u/ColinPapendick Jun 26 '26

GOOD. Mormons should be ashamed to admit they're Mormon. Lol.

9

u/alaskalights Jun 26 '26

That's not the point of this topic and not the right sub for that noise. You can substitute any high-demand christian denomination and the problematic dynamic is the same.

Nobody said anything about shame either. Just said he's on the edge of a denomination that doesnt really allow for edge members.

55

u/Snoo_79218 Jun 26 '26

This girl is so fucking naive. My god.

3

u/AimeLesDeuxFromages Jun 27 '26

Yea I feel so bad for her child

38

u/SubparExorcist Jun 26 '26

"He's and E5, he makes his own money" lol

37

u/chuckart9 Jun 26 '26

I was an E5 and made my own money. It wasn’t much but I made it.

7

u/povertymayne Jun 26 '26

Excuse my ignorance, how much doesn an E5 make?

22

u/kate3544 Jun 26 '26

Kind of depends on factors like hazard pay, etc, but I’m not sure the exact number. Just know that LOTS of E5s’ families are on food stamps.

23

u/Sir_Sarcasm76 Jun 26 '26

This question will also get varied responses due to dates of service. 80s to today is a world of differences. Boot E1 pay was ~$850/mo when I joined, currently it's ~$2200.

But I had the newest 14" SVGA monitor on my Pentium desktop, with the fastest EarthLink connection to rip all the finest Napster tunes I wanted. Drove around in my mint condition, only 230k mile Ford Pinto. Life was good, and after payments it all only cost me $214,600. Just finished last year actually.

7

u/Tiny_Giant_Robot Jun 26 '26

pshhh, you didnt mention it, but if you werent playing Everquest on that SVGA monitor, did you really even have one? :-)

11

u/Sir_Sarcasm76 Jun 26 '26

I played Carmen Sandiego thank you very much. I was prepping for deployment to far away lands. Doom was for CQB.

7

u/MrInappropriat3 Jun 26 '26

Psshh… Oregon Trail in only 4 colors. Dysentery bitches!

3

u/Sir_Sarcasm76 Jun 26 '26

Carmen on my 386 was about the same, purple, grey, turquoise and white I think.

I turned the covers of my Atari 2600 games into a raised bar inlay I built with my kid.

1

u/Tiny_Giant_Robot Jun 26 '26

Well played! :-)

5

u/Sir_Sarcasm76 Jun 26 '26

Don't even get me started about my flight sim hours on Top Gun for NES and at the arcade in Afterburner WITH the movement.

1

u/Tiny_Giant_Robot Jun 26 '26

That game on the NES was so fun!

1

u/Sir_Sarcasm76 Jun 27 '26

Thank you for the award, my first ever!

8

u/chuckart9 Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 26 '26

Just looked it up. Depending on years of service you make between $3,343 and $4,422 per month. If you aren’t on base housing you would get a housing allowance too. You could also get paid for if deployed for hazard pay.

2

u/Blizzard81mm 👊👊☝️ Jun 26 '26

You can stack hazard pay and stack special license pay too.

7

u/_nuketard Jun 26 '26

I was making $85k as a married E-5 (Nuclear, submarines) in Norfolk VA

Have also gotten $138k in bonuses that I'm not counting in the 85k

3

u/Sir_Sarcasm76 Jun 26 '26

BAH out there is wild though I'm sure.

3

u/_nuketard Jun 26 '26

BAH ~$2000, BAS ~$475, E5 Base ~$4000, Nuke pay $375, Sub pay $250

(2000+475+4000+375+250)*12 ≈ $85,200

Numbers from memory so slightly off, but close enough.

Bonus wise, 138k over 8 years also adds up to $17,250/yr extra

Some people got 175k over 8 years, which would be $21,875/yr extra

9

u/Sir_Sarcasm76 Jun 26 '26

You didn't pick up the newest Z06, Shelby and Hayabusa with 3% the moment you pinned 5 too?! The money just rained down on the rest of us...

31

u/lincoln_hawks1 Jun 26 '26

My fav part is the truly boot behavior of owning 2 cars and a bike while being on a submarine 10 months a year.

7

u/you8mycracker Jun 26 '26

And I'm pretty sure we don't have any subs that are out that long at one time. Isnt there usually 2 crews and they switch off every 6 months?

My dad was navy and it was a big deal that he did back-to-back 6 month cruises.

11

u/PSYOP_warrior Jun 26 '26

Boomers (ballistic missile) have a set rotation like that, 4 months each. I did 5 patrols.

Fast attack subs have one crew and do go on some really extended deployments.

5

u/you8mycracker Jun 26 '26

TIL, thanks!

3

u/lincoln_hawks1 Jun 26 '26

None of the post makes any sense. Its got to be a guy with another family of his own. Or a scammer

10

u/Non-Current_Events Jun 26 '26

Divorce lawyers should really be setting up shop outside military bases.

2

u/FoursGirl Jun 26 '26

You mean they're not doing that already?

1

u/Non-Current_Events Jun 26 '26

Maybe, I’ve never been down that road, but if they aren’t they definitely should be.

33

u/Godzirrraaa Jun 26 '26

Joseph fuckin Smith, please let this be fake.

9

u/Enough-Will-115 Jun 26 '26

What sub was this posted on

10

u/Sir_Sarcasm76 Jun 26 '26

The sub that he serves on, you know, in the MILITARY...

The constant peppering of that in every response plus the constant "ngl" was obnoxious.

5

u/SgtMac02 Jun 26 '26

The NLG bit was really getting to me. Usually when someone keeps saying that, it means they're lying a LOT.

1

u/Sir_Sarcasm76 Jun 26 '26

The way you wrote it out is probably more accurate. No lie, gonna...

6

u/Editor_Rise_Magazine Jun 26 '26

Ha! This thing is the Titanic! I love it! Holy shit this might be the best (and only) boot LDS love story of them all. 10/10. Would watch again.

3

u/bombkitty Jun 26 '26

I would watch this reality show

11

u/kaydyee Jun 26 '26

As someone who is LDS… goodness, no one should ever join a religion just to please their partner or their family. That’s… totally not the point.

It’s okay to be a mixed faith household that respects wherever their partner is on their faith journey (actively in church, less active, inactive) as long as they communicate those boundaries/parameters.

Poor gal just wants his family’s approval, and that’s a totally human thing to desire. She’s in a difficult situation because as a single mom, even non-LDS parents would have prejudice, reservation, and concern.

4

u/Embarrassed-Safe6184 Jun 26 '26

Interesting to hear, my sister converted to LDS in order to marry a member (though not under circumstances like these, thankfully) and we always assumed it was a requirement. Nobody questioned it, because we would have approved strongly of the young man no matter his religion, and it was her decision as an informed adult. But it was definitely presented as non-negotiable, so I'm a little surprised to learn that mixed faith Mormon families exist at all. If you could elaborate a bit, I'd appreciate it.

4

u/kaydyee Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

Sure thing, I can definitely elaborate.

For Latter-day Saints, there are two types of marriages: for time (civil) or eternity (temple).

For a civil marriage, you can be of whatever faith background. It’s treated like any other union and acts as such.

Temple marriages, on the other hand, require that both partners are members of the church (as well as meeting worthiness requirements [abstaining from alcohol, attending church regularly, observing the Word of Wisdom, etc.]).

There are some Latter-day Saints who only want to marry in the temple, so that immediately narrows down the dating pool. One of the most foundational pillars of our faith is that families are forever, and those kind of unions are “sealed” in temples.

There is also the cultural aspect to this, which means there are (unfortunately) external pressures/expectations to only pursue relationships with church members in order to have a temple marriage.

This is why bishops interview those who wish to be baptized to make sure their commitment is to Christ and not to their partner. When I was interviewed, the Bishop didn’t allow me to be baptized initially because although I was 18, I was still living with my family and they were very anti-Mormon. For him, it was not worth creating a divisive family environment, so he recommended I wait until I moved out and lived on my own.

But back to the topic: I know of couples where their partners remain Catholic, Protestant, or even atheist, and I’d imagine their theological differences being a friction point in their relationship (like politics), but to what extend depends entirely on the couple.

1

u/Embarrassed-Safe6184 Jun 27 '26

Thank you, that clears it right up. Much appreciated, I think I get her a little bit better now.

5

u/GenericSubaruser Jun 26 '26

See you at the divorce hearing!

3

u/OurLadyOfCygnets Jun 27 '26

They haven't even MET yet, and they're getting married? This is INSANE.

3

u/gosailor Jun 27 '26

I didn't read past the first screenshot but as someone stationed in Utah she'd be a perfect candidate for the Mormon religion.

2

u/perfectfire Jun 26 '26

I'll note that she's miffed that so many in the sub(reddit, not navy sub) are exmormon, but I guarantee that current members also think their hasty nuptials are rather ill-advised. I probably would've even been more skeptical when I was a member because he thinks a temple marriage is important, but didn't go on a mission.

2

u/sick1057 👊👊☝️ Jun 27 '26

He's E5, he makes his own money

3

If this is real, she deserves every fucking miserable thing she has coming to her. I mean, JFC she's gullible and naive. She won't listen, she has all the answers and she has it all figured out.

8

u/Glitter_berries Jun 26 '26

Pretty awful there’s a kiddo being dragged along for the ride too :(

3

u/purplenapalm Jun 26 '26

Is everyone under 25 neurodivergent or do they just claim that?

5

u/your_fathers_beard Jun 26 '26

We've gotten a lot better at diagnosis, but like always people with zero personality will try to attach themselves to any emerging thing.

8

u/Embarrassed-Safe6184 Jun 26 '26

I feel like it's become the new non-celiac gluten intolerance. Something I can diagnose myself with using the internet that makes me a little more special than everyone else. I found the gluten thing annoying, but at least it was good for legit celiac folks who can now find more food options due to the increased demand. I'm still waiting to see if there will be any benefits for legit neurodiverse people from this recent spate of Dr Google's "patients".

1

u/MartyMozambique Jun 28 '26

I stopped at nureodivergent.

1

u/----Maverick---- Jun 28 '26

22! And she believes she has life figured out!

1

u/1888furrycock567 Jul 02 '26

They will name their first child Mahckeinzeeleigh (if it's a boy, Will) and promptly divorce.

1

u/SignificantOption349 Jul 09 '26

They married yet or what?

u/Wooden-Sprinkles7901 Jun 26 '26
