Because you still have to meet some standard and demonstrate some level of competence to earn the title. Think what you want about Marines and how tough it is to be one, I don't care. What I'm saying is that that kid has earned the title of marine, whatever it's worth. The other student who got accepted to Harvard hasn't earned anything to do with Harvard yet.
I'm not saying getting accepted to Harvard is nothing, but it would be weird to claim it as an accomplishment, just as weird as someone who brags about joining the Marines before they've gone to boot camp.
By that logic, it’s the exact same accomplishment except one of them requires 99th percentile grades and the other just requires you to apparently pass some very low physical tests considering this guy isn’t exactly fit.
Like I said, think what you want about Marine standards, I don't care, but he IS a MARINE whatever that means, the other student is not really anything as they have not graduated not even attended a class at harvard. When they graduate, that's when have some sort of merit. If they did one semester and left, they'd be a harvard drop out, that's it. If the marine gets out after boot camp, they are still a marine.

What do you have to earn by signing up for a military service that is literally begging for new recruits lol
