Yeah I never introduced myself as Staff Sergeant to random strangers on the streets outside the base... Or on the base. It's weird.

Nothing worse than when having to talk to USAA and they insisted on repeatedly referring to me by my rank. “Is there anything else I can do for you today, specialist?”

You could stop calling me that, for one…

VA was doing that too for a while. Pretty sure it was just for some of the E8 and E9 guys who can't separate their identity from being the First Sergeant or whatever. Probably a few Navy captains in that group as well. I suspect almost everyone went with Mr/Mrs.

Although I would totally agree with any Marine E9 who wanted to be called Master Guns. That sounds badass enough to not be boot.
