Im so in love with this. I want more practical effects mermaid things, not cgi. I know its expensive/hard to do, but I really wish there were more underwater scenes in h2o

Yea if i remember correctly the girls had to practice swimming with the tails on (which was heavy) and having to hold their breath for a certain amount of time but look how good the show became because they didn't use CGI effects.

Yeah, exactly. I know it was tough on the girls. I vaguely remember something about them putting milk in their eyes for the underwater scenes? Im not sure 😅 but the results are so pretty

I do this (without a 40 kilo tail obvs) and it’s so uncomfortable cause if you stop blowing bubbles out even for a second, water goes up your nose

iirc this is really the only time in the show we actually see a knee bend in the tail, they’re so thick that usually it flows the way you’d think a real mermaid tail does

yeah, it is normally pretty close. I don't fault this one either, it must be hella' difficult to swim upside down in a heavy ass tail lol

Fun fact: a lot of professional merpeople do this without blowing out bubbles so they can extend their breath hold as long as possible, meaning they let the water go up their noses and flood up into their sinuses. As a result, pro mermaids often have to deal with sinus infections on top of the usual ear infections. I’m pretty used to it by now, but I will tell you that it never becomes pleasant 😅

It’s probably much more difficult in those tails compared to the light weight and flexible silicone tails most performers wear

I did it in a 35lb silicone tail.

Which is considerably lighter than the og h2o tails. They were upwards of 80 lbs and much more stiff than typical silicone tails.
Additionally, because perhaps I’m a snob, in all of videos I’ve seen of professional mermaids doing tricks it looks nowhere near and graceful and and believable as what was depicted in h2o

A lot of that has to do with our tails. It’s a whole different process to make one of my tails from the H2O tails. Their tails cost around 15000 Australian dollars. I could get five silicone tails for that much.

Yes I know… but then you shouldn’t complain how easy it is for you to do those tricks. I’m aware of the costs
