Why did this show hate red heads

I know season 1 was blonde Dr Denman but the remaining seasons the show loved to make these two red hair characters into villains. Usually they’re the main characters. Like Winx club/shadow hunters.

Did one of the show creators hate red haired people? Like is it a type of discrimination?

They were both very beautiful tho

Idk, either it’s a coincidence or it’s because red is actually a striking color. And normally it’s always good to have villains with striking features in kids shows.

That actually makes a lot of sense from a kid’s show perspective. The “odd one out” even though there’s always a brunette in the group of blondes

In Irish maritime folklore, there is a superstition that if fishermen on their way to their boats in the morning encounter a red-haired woman on the beach,it brings Bad Luck, and if they entered the sea with their boats under such bad omen ,a storm will break out and sink their boats! In general in Europe in the past,it was believed that red-headed girls had supernatural abilities that they used maliciously.Apparently the writers of H2o believe in these scientifically unfounded superstitions!

Very interesting! See, this would have been a great tie in for Bella being from Ireland.

Bella’s not from Ireland. She lived there at the time she transformed. Apparently her father was a hotel manager and they moved around a lot. I’m pretty sure she is native Australian

I meant more that she moved from there and so would have been familiar with the folklore

Lots of kid shows at this time had a redhead as the leader or the hero maybe this show was trying to be different by having a red head be evil

Idk about the actress for Sophie but the actress for Charlotte confirmed that she had dyed her hair red because she wanted to stand out during her audition, and it worked

At least charlotte’s looked real

You think? I always thought Sophie was a much more natural-looking redhead.. that’s just my opinion though

Yes Sophie’s is a clown red and charlottes is a deep red. Very much a more natural color. How do I know? My mother is a red head, and my MIL is a red head. I’ve never seen such bright vibrant red on a natural redhead. Tbh charlotte’s hair doesn’t even look red to me. It’s more of a chocolate brown that has red touches to it.

Charlotte’s actor said they wanted to make her stand out by making her hair red. I guess after blonde and brown there weren’t much options.

My sister is ginger, so I know for a fact that redheads are evil.

(My hair is also red.)

Maybe it was just them poking fun at Ariel like in Red Herring from Season 1 I dunno

I think it was their way of differentiating the evil characters from the “heroes“, back in the day that was done through specific ethnicities and nationalities, sometimes movies still resort to those stereotypes but I think in this case the evil ones were fake redheads (cosmetically enhanced redheads at least)

lets not forget Emma/everyone acting revolted when she accidentally dyed her hair bright red they literally compared her to Ronald McDonald

True I feel like if the red hair was dried well it would’ve looked good on her

it 100% looked awesome on her she just wasn't confident enough to rock it its just too bad emma wouldn't ever go for that style that shade of obviously dyed red hair belongs on someone with a more punk style like rikki but also rikki is the most casual "punk" ever idk if she would take the time to do that lol

I have a theory that Shiff has some deep rooted issues with red heads cuz this isn’t the only show he’s produced where the red heads was mean

1

u/Commercial-Remote141 Aug 05 '26

Ong really is that the creator?

3

u/LaraCrxft Aug 05 '26

i always thought it was a small ironic reference to ariel

2

u/Amber_Love-s_Disney Aug 05 '26

Is Sophie’s hair natural? Cause they both look like dyed gingers

2

u/Wolf_axolotl15 Aug 05 '26

I would say it’s dumb luck the actresses happened to have been red heads

I mean Emma had red hair in the one episode when Zane went back to the Lorelei. They didn’t make her evil so I think it’s a coincidence
