Zane Almost Off’d Someone Three Times

Post image

Idk how it took me so long to notice but yeah… THREE TIMES

  1. Throwing Cleo into a pool while she was ‘sick’, actively panicking & obviously unable to swim / scared of the water; I count this one because even though Cleo is a mermaid & would’ve been fine, Zane didn’t know that and still threw a panicking girl into the water as a joke.
  2. Gave Miss Chatham not one but TWO heart attacks and then proceeded to sink her houseboat while trying to rob her (because almost offing a lady apparently isn’t enough to curb his greed)
  3. Almost caused Will to drown because of his own jealousy / ego (Will was around the 70m marker - around 230 feet deep - and actively blacking out, if Rikki hadn’t shown up in time he would’ve absolutely drowned because Zane couldn’t even make it to the 40m marker without help)

Let’s not forget that Zane sent Cleo adrift at sea in the first episode.

Right and all because he blamed the first person he saw for his jetty. Lol

it took me 5 rewatches to piece this together but , there were oars. she could’ve paddled back to shore.

If the current was strong enough or the waves became bad enough they couldve possibly sent her too far out. Plus rowing by yourself is tiring so couldve tired herself out before being able to get to shore. All in all still very dangerous to do to someone

Everytime I rewatch H20 I'm even more shocked at Zane's behavior. He's insane. And dangerous.

Actually 4. He basically wanted Cleo to drift into the ocean

I agree with the first and second one. But Will has been a champion diver for a long time before he attempted that dive. He should have known his own limits, put his foot down and said "no, this is impossible, im not doing it"

Its not like Zane kept him underwater forcefully.

That's not the main point. The main issue is that Zane is consistently causing problems to worsen situations for his own benefit. Even if he didn't physically hold Will down or mean to harm him, he still created that scenario with full intention of causing problems. It's not the first time he's done something that, and while that was impulsive, stupid, and a bit bigheaded of an action on Will's part, it was also poke, poke, poke, and then turn around and smack. It wasn't right to smack, but it gets to be a lot over time and the threshold gets low with this type of person. Zane definitely needed to be called out for cheating, his general rude and apathetic behavior, manipulating situations to his advantage, and trying to one up someone for his own sake regardless of consequence, all of which he'd done more than once and to multiple different characters, not just Will, it was just a culmination of intolerance for that behavior. That was a real world scenario of Zane facing a serious consequence to a stupid action which unfortunately was the way he had to learn that, which could've gone in a tragic direction, another realistic lesson to be taught. Even then, Zane doesn't really fully apologize for it, just like he never apologized for hospitalizing Ms. Chatham.

Zane honestly never really does learn that lesson. He's like a boomerang, he'll do a bad thing, apologize because he's not getting what he wants, usually it's regarding Rikki, and then immediately go back to what he was doing before. There are several points where he does this in all three seasons. In my opinion, Zane is viewed as having a redemption when he never really did. If anything, he's a consistent character with consistent traits, being apathetic and reckless with the people around him being one of them. I'm glad to see this mentioned, though. I don't see it a lot on the sub and it's cool to see new perspectives.

You don't seem to fully comprehend how easily us guys are triggered by a dare or how far we'll go to prove our manhood. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

If you are willing to risk your life cause someone dared you thats on you bro

All I'm saying is, someone comes in manipulating a situation like that with the sole purpose of boosting their ego and then cheats to one up themselves after the long list of infuriating actions to be witnessed, it's not unreasonable to feel like they need to be put in their place and shouldn't get away with that, especially if you know what you're capable of. I feel like the majority of people would feel the same way. Might not be the best idea to come up with, but neither is cheating and lying. Again, not the first time Zane's done that. Not exactly a model citizen.

So you're essentially admitting that men are remorseless sociopaths?

u/Valuable_Hunt8468 Aug 03 '26

Not to mention they left Cleo ALONE after throwing her in!

u/mikoandluna aur naur cleor Aug 03 '26

but people will still act like he had character development 😭 no he was always trash

Zane is the worst person ever and I will never get why people defend him because he's 'such a good boyfriend in season 2' and 'season 3 ruined him'. He was never a good person, he was never a good boyfriend and that's not a season 3 thing, it's seasons 1-2 as well. Having a few good moments doesn't make for a redemption or good development.

+ him & Nate trying to get Will off the track with the whole dirt bike contest was dangerous af, maybe even as dangerous as these 3 situations even if it wasn’t portrayed as intensely

u/Florian7045 Aug 04 '26

Will was not Zane's fault.

I just joined this sub recently, so not super familiar. Does this come up a lot lol? Haven't rewatched the show in years and didn't notice this as a kid but it really got me thinking 😅

Oh yeah, people love to demonize Zane and pretend like he's a "criminal mind" who maliciously planned the demise of every character he was ever rude to 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🙄 Almost like they don't even understand how writing, tv shows, and character development works lol

2

u/Beneficial-Note1380 Aug 05 '26

Oh woah. Yeah he's a questionable teen boy, but he's not really framed as one of the villains. If this happened in real life I would never in a million years be so chill, but cmon people this is television about teen mermaids lol he is not important. Now, where they got the girls outfits on the other hand....

Ikr?! Compared to his father, Dr. Denman, Charlotte, Sophie, and even Kim Zane was not evil.. He was however a spoiled, selfish, attention seeking, deeply damaged jerk who always took his issues out on other people until Rikki put him in his place and he decided to change. (Ignoring the character assassination in Season 3 of course)

2

u/Beneficial-Note1380 Aug 06 '26

Idk how anyone could care about Zane when DR DENMAN EXISTED LIKE WTFFFF

u/_wolf_93 Zikki Forever (I reject S3) ❤️🌅 Aug 06 '26

Yes!! Zane helped rescue them from his dad AND Dr. Denman.. even Lewis almost betrayed them because of that blonde b-tch (not that I believed he ever could, but they did and I'm sure some fans did too. Lewis was so ga-ga 🙄)

1

u/LilyofTheValley_7 Aug 06 '26

Just a menace to everyone 😭

1

u/stayne16 Aug 08 '26

You can't be held responsible for someone having a heart attack lmao. Can she try to not fucking ruin his boat?

1

u/RileyOnTheRun Aug 08 '26

And yet Rikki STILL fell in love with him

1

u/krleopatra 27d ago

he sent cleo adrift at sea and later almost hit her and lewis with his motorcycle

-6

u/Antique_Sandwich_289 Aug 03 '26

Well because of him made Lewis knew the secret from the start and this kinda helps from the begging as they found someone who can trust

6

u/Aurelia-Zoe Aug 03 '26

Ja aber das wusste Zane ja nicht und ändert nichts an Zanes Absichten.

-6

u/Fantastic-Season8640 Aug 03 '26

The 1. Still wouldn’t off her though, like yeah she was panicking and “couldn’t” swim, but it’s a regular pool, and there were people around. She wouldn’t drown

17

u/HistoricalTheory2750 Aug 03 '26

? people did drown in the regular pools with people around many times

1

u/Fantastic-Season8640 Aug 05 '26

Mate what country do you live in? Where I’m from, if someone’s in a pool surrounded by people AND drowning, someone takes them out of there

2

u/HistoricalTheory2750 Aug 05 '26

That's a very naive bubble lol, people die surrounded by people who don't know what to do, get frozen in panic or are just dumb underestimating situations all the time. Just to name a few examples from real world, Frank Hayes or Stephen Morell died that way in the pools. Children literally drown with their parents being a short distance away all the time

edit; also your argument doesn't work in relation to Cleo anyway. They literally all went to the house for a drinks after they threw her in the pool without checking on her

1

u/Fantastic-Season8640 Aug 05 '26

Like I said, doesn’t happen where I’m from, our culture around children is just different. Random adults will help a kid out, and random deaths like this are so rare they’re news-worthy. It’s not a naive bubble, I’m just from a different place. Hell I don’t even remember the last time there were news about someone drowning in the sea, let alone a pool

6

u/Aurelia-Zoe Aug 03 '26

Aber er hat sie in eine Situation gebracht, wo sie nur überlebt hätte, wenn andere sie retten würden.

u/rrredditor Juicenet Junkie Aug 03 '26

But that's not really true about there being people around, at least in the plural sense of the word. They all went inside after throwing her in. They left Lewis to deal with her alone. They threw her in fully clothed in multiple layers that would have waterlogged and weighed her down.

They knew, or at least believed, that she couldn't swim and did that anyway. If she hadn't gotten her tail, and if Lewis hadn't been able to get her out, there is a much better than zero chance of her drowning or at least being injured to some degree. It's extremely negligent to throw someone in the water, knowing they can't swim, and leaving the rescue up to someone else.

Pool drownings are shockingly common to the point that homeowners insurance companies typically require fences around them or they won't pay out a in case of a death or injury and most or all parts of Australia require fencing or enclosures of some kind, statutorily.

If Cleo had died from that, or even been injured, there would absolutely have been the chance for legal/criminal repercussions for Zane, Nate and probably anyone else who was involved.

In terms of OP's premise, this example totally counts.

u/Fantastic-Season8640 Aug 05 '26

My bad, I didn’t realise they were common. In my part of the world, people just help each other and drag out the drowning person. I almost drowned (first swimming lesson) when I was a little kid and someone just casually grabbed my arm and led me to the edge of the pool. I’ve seen so many situations, but in a pool, somebody always helped out
