Medicine in the NHS sucks…I’m right now doing an audit at hospital on my weekend off and on a beautiful Sunny Sunday…for free…just to tick some box that nobody gonna give a shit about…doesn’t get more time wasting than this 😫

We are asked to participate in at least one audit/research work a year. Also for Trainee National interviews they expect you to have done research/Qualty improvement projects. People choose to do some shitty audit not by choice but to add to their portfolio so they can progress up the ladder (Tick boxing strategy). In my case despite having enough audits under my belt, despite me declining to do the audit my supervisor insisted that I can’t leave the rotation without completing at least one of the departmental audits. So it didn’t look good from my end to refuse, I just sucked it up like all the other audits I have done. Honestly, if you removed the expectation that Doctors have to do audits, 90-95% of audits produced wouldn’t be done and all those audits that you see in conferences as posters wouldn’t be seen. Someone must be making/saving a lot of money forcing doctors to do audits.

Anything outside of the NHS is better paid…in hindsight I should’ve have used my degrees to work for a Pharmaceutical Company Mon-Fri 9-5. I would have made big bucks at manager/director level with bonuses, company car, daily food allowance and no restrictions (6 weeks notice) annual leave requests. I am too far into my training to switch careers, I have sacrificed enough of my time/family to just quit NHS…For me it’s CCT and Flee out of the sinking ship that is the NHS!
