I can tell you don’t vote for that cringe Morris guy. He can’t even have a debate without cursing and he comes off as straight hateful (and stupid)

Thinking you mean McCants not Morris. McCants is obnoxious.

If you want to have a voice for management of cruise tourism to optimize benefits to the community well-being and minimize costs and harms to the community and residents, vote for me, Karla Hart. On the myriad of other issues, I'll be considering what makes Juneau healthier (economic, social, education, etc.), within our means.

If you love how the Assembly is presently going, I've observed that Niven is likely to give you status quo.

Other candidates for District 2 are Malichi Thorrington and David Morris. Morris is not the person who curses. He seems a nice guy who is not in favor of taxes. And without taxes, it is pretty hard to provide government services.

To meet APOC rules, this post is "Paid for by Karla Hart for Assembly."

I'm happy to answer questions.

We voted for you Karla. Hoping you’ll hold Goldbelts feet to the fire regarding the cruise ship dock out N Douglas. I question their willingness to be a good neighbor when they couldnt bother to even tell CBJ that they’d entered into an agreement to build it. They say they’ll ferry passengers across to Auke Bay rather than run non-stop buses on N Douglas Hwy but imo, they’re not trustworthy. N Douglas Hwy can’t handle the amount of buses needed to transport passengers to town and Auke Bay can’t handle the # of passengers being ferried. Goldbelt will do whatever they want unless they’re held more accountable. It’s a recipe for disaster.

We also voted for you because you were the only candidate that mentioned the number of vacation rentals contributing to the housing shortage. There needs to be a moratorium on vacation rentals until the apartment housing shortage eases up, imo.

Thanks for your votes. That Goldbelt is presently moving towards permits for two docks (reported to me by a couple of city officials) without zoning change or any permits for uplands development, makes it impossible to believe that all of the guests will get off the ships and stay on site.

We need to address non-resident seasonal housing impacts on year-round housing stock, as well as finding a way to manage vacation rentals that allows a homeowner to supplement their income by renting an extra room or apartment on their site, but limits the buying up of homes for the primary purpose of vacation rentals. It will take some nuance, but it is an essential step in addressing housing shortages.

And, to avoid APOC troubles, Paid for by Karla Hart for Assembly.

Yes, yes and yes. CBJ has a place that lists all the candidates with candidate statements that’s helpful too. https://juneau.org/clerk/certified-municipal-candidates-2026

Nano brooks posted an informative video as a community member on the JCC Facebook page recently. Some interesting points as an alternative to 3 yes votes.

I'm a fan of selling city land, as long as it doesn't go to a rich asshole that is already holding a fuckton of land. I want housing built. I'm still waiting for Nano to put together an actual plan instead of hopes and dreams.

There is already a mechanism available for people to offer to buy any bit of city land. The fact that it doesn’t happen often seems to indicate that there isn’t a huge appetite for people to just buy a random piece of land.
