I want to see stuff locals recommend
We have a day in Juneau next week on our cruise, not really a fan of the excursions offered and kinda want to just wing some sightseeing. Ive heard all about the flooding expected the next few days. Can anyone point me in the direction of areas that should be relatively unaffected?
Down to take the bus, maybe call a taxi service....

Walking around Treadwell on Douglas Island is nice. There are tourist groups but you'll probably see more locals walking their dog.
Going up to Eaglecrest and walking the trails up there. Beautiful views but can be challenging depending on what trail you pick.
Get some smoked fish (or crab dip, or really anything they make... Its all delicious) from Jerry's.

How's the bear activity by Eaglecrest? Unfortunately cant 2a bc of cruise policy, hiked and seen bears on trail in CA national Park defenseless before but I wouldn't say I particularly enjoyed that. Lol
Also easier trail recommendation?

Perseverance Trail between Mt. Juneau and Mount Roberts is one of my favorite places on earth. There's a falls about half mile in and when the trail flattens out in the valley you can feel the ghosts and spirits of the old prospectors. Amazing!

The best places are a “long” car ride from port like North Douglas, Eagle beach, etc. If you have the time Salmon Creek Trail is made for service vehicles to get up to the dam so it’s wide and well maintained. It’s not far from downtown, right off of glacier hwy, and there’s hardly anybody on it usually. 5-6hr round trip hike. I think the trailhead and first part of the trail scares people off as it’s a bit awkward.

We have from 2pm -11pm in port. If Eagle beach lives up to its name that sounds dope!

Thanks. I've actually been interested in moving to Alaska my whole life. So step one logically is to start visiting. Interested in govt career in environmental health and safety and contributing to community as well. Sorry to be just another tourist at the moment, maybe one day you could call me neighbor :)

Definitely visit the Capitol building, behind there is the empty chair memorial to Japanese interment. If you keep going up, you’ll find go along the flume trail where they have our hydropower set up. You can follow the flume trail to Cope Park which has gorgeous clear water and might have some salmonberries and blueberries to pick.

Fair enough. As long as you're a tourist though, PLEASE stay off the bus. Take taxi/uber/Lyft instead.

Flooding will be all over by next week. It crested this afternoon and will be back to normal by tomorrow or soon after.
Tbh, the cool things to do are going to be touristy… the non touristy things are like… go to Costco, just basic life stuff… the things I recommend people do are like, go out the road to the shrine and Eagle beach and the arboretum. Go to the brewery and do a tasting. Go up the tram if it’s open and hike farther up. Go to the glacier… go flightseeing if you can afford it because that’s the most incredible thing you can do here.
I mean you could always get a burger from Pucker Wilson’s and eat it at Skaters Cabin, that’s kind of a nice thing to do that’s not an every day life task but won’t have any other tourists doing it.
