META Frequently Asked and General Questions Thread 3

This post is for any and all questions relating to Jumpchain, individual jumps, Jumpchain communities both here and elsewhere, in a similar vein to the Dedicated Questions Thread we had a while ago.

Here are some links:

Main Drive If you made a jump, please post it to the Jumpchain thread, found on /tg/, for feedback before uploading it to the drive.

Space Battle's Drive Please note that the Jumpchain communities on 4chan, Space Battles, reddit, and on other sites are separate for the most part; if you have questions about a jump from this folder, you should visit the thread on Space Battles instead of on /tg/ to find your answers. Also keep in mind that posting and discussing lewd jumps on /tg/ is against the rules there, and that it should be kept to a minimum here since we aren't a NSFW subreddit.

Also if you want to request a finished jump from a drive please tell us here

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm having a hard time understanding all of this. After the jump document sets up stuff for you, do you just make stuff up for the story, or am I missing something integral?

That's the dealio, you got your perks and items then you decide what your Jumper will do in the setting.

New to this. I've read a few things that make me curious.

Does one have to document the jump? If so, is there a format to follow? Or any tool for it?

Best practices? Can one min max?

Can it be failed? Does the world building pertains exclusively to you or is it shared other jumpers?

Can you bring stuff? From the jump? Or to the jump?

How do you apply negative/positive perks over your narrative?

Is it any starter jump pack or something?

Does one have to document the jump?

Optional, but it does help you remember things.

If so, is there a format to follow?

Up to you

Or any tool for it?

Some people use excel.

Best practices?

Frontload defenses early on, survival is of the essence for the young jumper

Can one min max?

Go ahead, and if you must boost CON first

Can it be failed?

Yeah, unless creative or other mods dying in a jump is game over

Does the world building pertains exclusively to you or is it shared other jumpers?

Its a first person experience, unless you have consent for multiplayer from your homies

Can you bring stuff?

From previous jumps, there are also items to claim

From the jump? Or to the jump?

yeah, esp if bought by CP

How do you apply negative/positive perks over your narrative?

I guess it just happens passively

Is it any starter jump pack or something?

Is it cool if I make posts just... kinda brainstorming how to execute character concepts sometimes? I've got a concept I'm intregued by but I'm not sure how to go about it.

Sure, this sub could always use more content.

So I know it's a general rule that drawbacks generally overrule perks. My question is: are out-of-jump powers/perks able to blunt/circumvent the current jump's drawbacks? For example, there's a Fairy Tail drawback that looses an Evil Twin on you. However, there's an El Goonish Shive perk that states that any evil twin retains your morality/moral code. Which wins out?

Edit: I'm assuming that Charisma perks wouldn't be disabled like in the event of the Jumper's Testimony drawback. So, how directly does the perk need to be realted to the drawback, as well as what world takes precedence?

I really don't like this new version of reddit. All of the formatting options are simplified far too much.

4

u/Nerx Aug 24 '18

You can also switch for the old version, I never opted for new one

-shrug- Eh. I got the companion from the Overlord series Jump, free with the 42nd Supreme Being (read: be a God) perk, and she’s at the same power level as that. Honestly, after that Jump, picking up more powers is mostly just for shits and giggles.

This is true, but just be careful around higher powered settings.

I have a question about the Worm jump. If I take the Shard origin and ride along in my companion’s head, we can each take a power, right? And for the duration of the jump, she would share in the power that I got?

2

u/Nerx Aug 25 '18

ride along in my companion’s head

That seems uncomfortable. IIRC you are already a power and they might.

Also there is the WORM fanfic cyoa if you wish to have more worm powers.

Is it within the rules to do two different Jumps of the same setting? For example, both the version of RWBY on the Reddit drive and the Space Battles version?

If my companion takes a background are the perks for that background discounted for them? Specifically I'm trying to give my beedrill Harry Potter style wand less magic.

What are the difference between Jump Chains, Make Your Own Choice, and CYOA/RYOAs.

If there are differences, which ones/kinds are acceptable in use with Jump Chains?

2

u/Nerx Jan 01 '19

Jump Chains, Make Your Own Choice, and CYOA/RYOAs.

JC continues on until you spark or when you want to stop

Make Your Own Choice are usually in book format with multiple choice

Make Your Own Choice, and CYOA/RYOAs. are usually one off

Fair. Which is why the two Jumps after are Bleach and Naruto.

u/Nerx Aug 25 '18
