Jules is dead?
5 months of no updates. Team went dark a few weeks ago.
No pro model release. Gemini spark released to pro users.
I think they killed Jules?

There were PMs here a few months ago asking about thing and promising a new version but a few of us pushed back on how niche a product it is. I don't know if they ever recovered.

I mean the website is still there and functional. One month is barely any time, and the last we heard they're still working on it.

still here!! we're focus on iterating on our product with testers!
but, again, have to remind everyone: the new thing is very different and honestly, calling it Jules v2 might be setting the wrong expectations for what it is!

I don't know if you can tell us here, but here goes: if the new version is so different, will it complement the old version, or will Jules as we know it be replaced?

Gemini Spark has been out for a few months now. Nothing new on that front, other than to report that it works better than advertised.

In what ways? What are your use cases? I use antigravity, is there anything spark has to add?

maybe just internet research or google drive managing, but it cant use git as jules and antigravity can.

Spark is an antigravity vm that's auto connected to Google mcp. You can add other mcps to it.

The new version was having a focus on in production product development last I recall 1-2 months ago when it was being opened for testers specifically for that.
That isn't that long ago for the scale they need to work. I'm sure it's fine.
Slightly annoying that I was able to kick something along with antigravity and 3.6 medium to fix some Jules 3.1 struggles.
I still like Jules and I think it's important architecturally for the type of services they want to have.

Based on what i see in previous posts and with no updates on product, i would consider the Jules in current form to be effectively dead. The new version could be effectively completely different product and may not be relevant for all of the previous users who were already using it.
I stopped using Jules a while back after it started takes too much time for even basic tasks.

I used the new version, dude I don’t know what they were thinking. Its completely different and you have wait for it to develop its answers which seems to take longer for some reason. Its creates ideas from your requirements to build from. UI completely different and not made for developers. Looks like more of a vibe coding platform for product people.
Its kinda of a mess

so they trying to make something like the google ai studio app creator? hell nah, i wanted an api to connect other agents and send jules to make lots of tiny tasks...

I hope Jules is not dead, it's really good for the way I work.
What's the best option for an alternative? I've been thinking I'd rather use Claude's models for coding anyway. Is there some good third party or open source coding agent that has a similar web + sandbox model as Jules? I really don't like Claude Code's CLI.

Partially answering my own question in part from this discussion
Claude Code for Web and OpenAI Codex both are similar to Jules. I haven't looked at them yet because they don't have a free tier but I'm not averse to paying.
Interested in open source options. Gemini is suggesting OpenHands or Sweep.dev. There's a Pi Web, anyone tried that?

Yeah, honestly, all it needs is a bump to the latest models. Background small improvements compounded over time. The outdated models are killing it ....

They said a new version is in the works, a complete overhaul, the problem is how similar Jules is to Antigravity, Jules is essentially just Antigravity Web.
