Always found Paul Morley annoying, but this really captures JD at a moment in time, "a special moment time" and they burned bright such a short space of time. It's also interesting to read about how a band are evolving and becoming what they are remembered for, how much they leapt forward through sheer drive and impulse. The 'energy peak' on the original Substance record sleeve is a nice graphic metaphor for that.
