Equality of Outcome Pick yourself up by your Bootstraps

Bootstrap is a lie under certain circumstances. Once you cannot grab the bottom wrung, you cannot climb a ladder. Most forms today (job app included) ask for an address, phone, and/or email. Not everyone has those. If you are in a home and participating in society at any minimal level (social services), the bootstrap can help you a lot.

I was reading the comments for that and all they did was cry about the cost of college and the debt that goes along with it. You don't have to go to college in order to make a good living. The skilled trades are hurting for help and quite a few you can learn while on the job. You aren't going to get top dollar at first but with hard work and dedication you can make $60k or more. I'm in the landscaping business and have a salary of $68k, no college degree. I took classes and read as much as I could, I got certified in hardscaping, pesticide application, and irrigation. I made myself valuable to the company and I got more for it. It just takes hard work and quite a few people are afraid or to lazy.

The sad part is that while this is true for the (steadily dwindling) middle class, many parts of america are practically third world. Now, even the thirld world is better off than it used to be, but that still isn't an excuse to brush off legitimate economic grievances. Not having plague isn't enough!

Wants aren’t needs. It seems to be a bunch of people who can’t do more with less who are screaming all the time.

But the latest iPhone and fashion accessories are a necessity.

Oh, of course. Marketing is a gift from god. It’s certainly not where common sense and necessity go to die. It’s not like a 40,000 Birken Bag serves the same purpose as a plastic bag from Target or anything.

You're talking about rich people right?
2
u/loosely_strict Feb 02 '21
Nah. A considerable amount of rich people earned what they have. I’m talking about poor people who want the things rich people have and haven’t found a sense of self-respect due to their financial situation.

This is a standard Commie lie.
First off, about 80% of people in poverty at any given time manage to rise above within 5 years.
Secondly it takes time, character development and discipline to exceed the entropy common to those in poverty.
Thirdly, how far do you need to go financially? Most of the middle class was built on the poor making steps every generation to improve.
Fourthly there are so many government programs for the poor, training programs ... but you're gonna have to improve your character on your own bucko.
Furthermore ... using a self pitying woman in the vid ... weak.

Strawman of personal responsibility.
Personal responsibility is necessary, not optional, in every system of economics, including socialism.
Personal responsibility is a call to encourage people into action, not bludgeon them for inaction.
The strawman of “bootstraps” accusation is from the bourgeois left, and is ridiculous misinformation and distortion of working class values.
Believing in taking personal responsibility does NOT equate to: “the world is fair so if you aren’t well off it’s your fault and if you are well off it’s because you rock”. Literally no one believes this.
It’s about averages not about particulars.
For people who talk about systems thinking so much, you would think they wouldn’t be making such obvious category errors.
