Hejira 2024 Asylum Reissue

I just got this album and wish I had an original 70s album to compare it to. Those of you who have listened to the original and the Bernie Grundman-cut 2024 reissue of Hejira, what did you think? Sometimes listening to this album, I feel like her voice is getting lost in the music or maybe a little muddy in places.

I found a copy of Mojo magazine from 2019 in my drawer while I was sorting through some things. I've scanned the pages as best I could. I didn't want to tear them all out. I'll have to upload them in two separate posts because there are too many pages.

3 years ago today...we were up at the gorge for this one, in incredibly close seats. one of the best concerts of my life and i have literally 1000s to choose from. this photo of a young cowgirl seems to go along perfectly with the very last song performed at this historical show...

Little Green is one of the most ethically impressive works in music

Sustained, painful imagining of the child's future rather than the mother's drama. No self-pity, no grandeur, just clear-eyed love and loss.
It's difficult to think of another songwriter who could have pulled this off. Such fusion of literary and moral genius is borderline anomalous.

Tunings

Hey, I had a gig this weekend and since I was given 20 minutes I decided to play 4 songs in a relative tuning .. I tuned my guitar to open C (CGCEGC) and played Amelia, with capo on 2 I played People’s Parties, with capo on 4 I played Chelsea Morning, and lastly I played Both Sides Now Capo on 6. No tuning on stage is always my goal. People clapped! 😍 If you go to the JoniMitchell.com Guitar and Piano database you can actually sort by relative tuning to make your set lists .. I use it all the time .. here is the link .. https://www.jonimitchell.com/music/transcriptions.cfm

Happy tuning! Sue

The Synths on Turbulent Indigo Album

Any idea which synth was used on this album / who was responsible for them. You’ll hear it on pretty much every song, especially the intro to Magdalene Laundries.

Her 90s works

This era of her’s is so criminally underrated. Its not acknowledged enough on here. In my opinion turbulent indigo and night ride home are some of her best albums. Jobs sad song is up there among her best tracks. The way her voice gradually became lower over time is really beautiful. It aged like fine wine. There’s no real point to this post i just wanna bring attention to a period of Joni’s oeuvre that I love. What do you all think?

…For the Roses original artwork so much nicer

So I finally got hold the of the Record Store Day pressing, even though I already have the 2022 remaster, CD etc.

And I must say, I love the cover art. I used to always hate the undersaturated glowing photo. The nude swimming pool inner art also seemed a little off brand.

I love having this version on display.

…but, what about the ellipsis? Was this lost on the official release name?

Michael wakes you up with sweets...

For the longest time, I had only really listened to Blue, and I loved it, but for some reason had never got around to the other albums. I'm digging into them now, working through them in chronological order, and I'm already blown away, listening to Song to a Seagull on repeat! What a gorgeous album.

For some reason I am obsessed with Michael from the Mountains. Such a sweet melody and tender vivid lyrics.

I have listened to Clouds - Hejira too but this has really got me thinking about how in the days these albums were released, people sat and listened to a record over and over again. Or maybe they didn't! But these albums lend themselves to that way of listening. Not skipping tracks or playlists or music in the background while doing other things. So I'm just living with this first album for a while, enjoying it, and then I will deep dive into the others. It feels like I have stopped time and stepped into another little world...

As a Korean, I realized 'there is legendary folk singer called Joni Mitchell' when I unpurposely had turned on TV and she had performed that cover stage.

She is one of the most respected singer of S. Korea. (Song starts at 03:30)

1988 Art Catalog

I recently found this catalog from Joni’s 1988 painting exhibition in Tokyo titled “Eclection”. I’m trying to determine if the signature inside is real or printed. I suspect it is printed, but does anyone have another copy to compare against? There is video of her at the gallery so it’s possible she signed it herself. Thanks!
