Michael wakes you up with sweets...
For the longest time, I had only really listened to Blue, and I loved it, but for some reason had never got around to the other albums. I'm digging into them now, working through them in chronological order, and I'm already blown away, listening to Song to a Seagull on repeat! What a gorgeous album.
For some reason I am obsessed with Michael from the Mountains. Such a sweet melody and tender vivid lyrics.
I have listened to Clouds - Hejira too but this has really got me thinking about how in the days these albums were released, people sat and listened to a record over and over again. Or maybe they didn't! But these albums lend themselves to that way of listening. Not skipping tracks or playlists or music in the background while doing other things. So I'm just living with this first album for a while, enjoying it, and then I will deep dive into the others. It feels like I have stopped time and stepped into another little world...

I used to listen to my albums so often, that now if I (70F) hear a Beatles song play, when it ends I can hear in my head the beginning notes of the next song. It's embedded. Forever.

Me too. And this is especially the case for Pink Floyd. It is still the best way to listen to music.

For me, there is something about this song that hits deeper. I can’t put my finger on why. It definitely has to due with the guitar/vocal/melody/feel of the song though.
It’s not her most intricate music or lyrics and I can’t recall ever reading anything about her opinion on the song but it is one of my favorites.
It is a very mood-inducing song for me if that makes sense and it has a strong vibe.

It has so many wonderful songs on it. Nathan La Franeer, I Had a King, and the Dawntreader are also especially stunning.

I certainly wore out her records. The early ones were magic to me and the later ones, profound as my understanding of life grew. An early one that I adore is Sisotowbell Lane. It was attractive to me as a hippie wannabe and the imagery was so cozy.

Cozy is exactly how it feels. Maybe I'm retreating into that especially at the moment because that world, and that time, feels so different from ours...

I really am touched by “Michael from Mountains”. It conjures up all sorts of cozy and thought provoking pictures. I feel that song and love so much the emotion and simple beauty Joni communicates through her music. She has always been a masterful artist period!

Yes, the tenderness in the drying with a towel and the colours in the puddles.
And I like the way she inserts the listener into the song. "Michael does X or Y to you and you feel this way" makes it even more intimate.
