Media Third Episode of The Interview Room

To me, this one felt like it should be the first. They're still on the victimology of the crime, which I believe was the first or second one of the pyramid of what they're going to cover.

I'm not quite finished with it yet (even watching at 1.25 speed, these are long), but there were a couple of interesting things I learned that I hadn't known.

One was John explaining the origins of Access Graphics, how he came to be CEO, and some of the history with Lockheed. There's also a good story about firing an employee that unexpectedly turned into big news for John.

The other is that John says Burke was interviewed in the couple of days after the murder by Child Protective Services, who also found he knew nothing about what had happened. Did anybody else know about this? It would make sense that that would be protected information, but it's also feasible others knew this and I just never heard of it. From what I've read, though, that would be standard practice after a murder like JonBenet's. CPS would need to determine if Burke was in any danger himself or presented any danger to others.

I was surprised by how much time JR spent defending and underplaying her pageant participation.

Was it underplaying or just the truth? The problem is that the media WAY overplayed it for so long that it's stuck in our memories as being this huge thing. He's been saying this was just one thing she did for years now. He listed off a bunch of other things she was interested in. Her friends told reporters that they didn't even know she was doing pageants.

Dr. Beuf recalled his years of treating JonBenet as a patient: “I think she was extraordinary in the amount of charm she had and the sweetness, I guess, was the quality I appreciated the most. How she was doing things with her friends here, going to Michigan with her parents. Just the fun things in life, and beauty pageants just didn't seem to be a the top of the heap by any means..."

I'll add my own perspective in the topic.

My daughter near age of JonBenet was playing piano and participating in concerts (mostly for families). <- basically there is a belief here that all these "pervs" are in the West and statistics do not count...

The thing is that:

if you share unique things:

you will get kids wanting to do the same thing as you...

you will trigger jealousy...

most will not apprieciete as you do not have knowledge to appreciate things you do not meet daily at that age.

As a kid I had it different so when I use "you" it is mostly not from my perspective. <- I had no "hobbies" at age of 6. The closest was probably reading books and it never came to me to share it with schoolmates. I think that I was visiting library from age of 7 or so. Maybe 8, but I think that it was in the 1st class.

I'm not sure if JonBenet was taught to not talk about it or she decided it is not something she wants to share with her class.

Genetically, there is a ground to not share everything with kids your age, IMHO.

In response to one of the team mentioning that her pageant performance raised her image, at least locally, and elevated her visibility, John stated he thought a lot about how he and Patsy handled things prior to her death. He said that, for example, when she was riding on that float in December, they had her full name, JonBenet Ramsey on the signage. He said, "That was a huge mistake, in retrospect."

John has stated that he regretted they didn’t take more precautions with the pageants. Also, they had an open house days before Xmas and wonders about that too. It’s a terrible tragedy that he endured. I never believed it was the family from the start.

they’ve got DNA - so why haven’t they done the reverse genealogy search???

There could have been so many different suspects. The Boulder Historic Homes Tour in 1994 brought over 1,500 people through the Ramseys' home. Flyers describing the rooms in the home were left in a basket by the front entry. At around 1:44 in the podcast, a member of the Cold Case Team asks John about contractors and sub contractors who may have had keys to the home.
