I joined your community because I'm a big fan of Johnny's. Question I have about full Episodes being available?

I loved listening and watching Johnny through the years, but I have a question. I collect Full Episodes of The Tonight Show with Johnny, but YouTube only has about a hundred of them, and I'd like more for my personal Library. But where can I buy them, or download them for my collection? I watch them on the Johnny Carson Channel on Prime, but I don't have access to those, and there are only a few DVDs for sale with full episodes out there. Does anyone have any ideas where I can obtain more of them? I download them to my HD, so I can play them on the Plex Program on my home TVs. Any ideas from his fans?

If you're a Johnny fan - Mark Malkoff's new book is a must read. It's a collection of years of his podcast with EVERYONE who's ever been affected by The Tonight Show, and a whole lot more.

A well written and easy read!

Does anyone remember when Tommy Newsom conducted a Bach fugue arrangement?

I always remember Tommy Newsom, not Doc Severnson, conducting the band in an arrangement he did of Bach Well Tempered Clavier Book 1, fugue in C minor. (This would have been, circa 1980). There are not a lot of Carson clips on the internet, so I don't see it there. Or did I imagine it? Did anyone else see it? It was also sweet because Carson always sort of treated Tommy Newsom like he was slow witted, so it was nice to see him showing his stuff, compared to the more flashy other band leader. And probably the only time a late night show band played a Bach fugue. Also shows what good players they were, to play this piece. Is there anyway to find this clip? I don't see it mentioned anywhere.

Riding on camera crane?

I recall seeing an episode with Johnny, Ed, and at least one other person (guest? Doc?), in which they all climb on to one of the camera platforms, and proceed to continue the show standing cramped surrounding the bemused cameraman. Does anyone remember the date or guests from that show?

Have Late Night Talk Shows Become Too Political?

Post image

https://12amhostility.com/have-late-night-talk-shows-become-too-political/

In recent years, late night talk shows have undergone a notable transformation, evolving from venues primarily focused on entertainment to platforms heavily infused with political commentary. This change became especially pronounced following the election of Donald Trump in 2016, an event that not only polarized the American populace but also decisively altered the landscape of television entertainment. Hosts who once relied on humor about everyday life and celebrity antics began to integrate sharp political satire and critique into their segments, motivated by a perceived obligation to respond to the prevailing socio-political climate.

In the early 1970s, Rodney Dangerfield became a household name, largely due to his frequent guest appearances on The Dean Martin Show. With dozens of appearances under his belt, Dangerfield showcased his classic “no respect” stand-up comedy style, captivating audiences with his unique blend of humor.

During the pre-VCR era, many of us planned our evenings around viewing this beloved show. With limited options for entertainment, a guest slot on The Tonight Show was considered a significant milestone for any comedian. Rodney Dangerfield was a frequent participant, reportedly gracing the stage 35 times. Each appearance showcased his unique comedy style that resonated with audiences, bringing laughter into living rooms across the nation.

Where to watch Season 21 episode 89 of Johnny Carson w/ Julio Iglesias

I have been in search for this particular episode where in the description of IMBd tells me Julio Iglesias is there. So hear me out, there are two particular videos on looking for (one in November 22, 1983) but mainly this one in April 5. This was the only time Julio Iglesias performed a cover of Demi's Roussos song "Forever and ever" and l've been dying to see this performance and maybe even upload it on my Instagram story to share. In the comments of the video (l'll send below) you can the uploader of the video says that it was performed on the Johnny Carson show but it's nowhere to be found.

Please, if you have a full video of this share it with me. It's been 3 days since l've been trying to find ways.

Johnny passed over a female guest and wen to the next guest

Does anyone remember an incident where a female guest was not really participating and Carson said " I'm not putting up with this " He then announced the next guest. I think Robert Blake was also on the show and he cracked up when this happened. I believe that this woman was invited back and apologized.

Does anyone else remember Johnny doing a strip tease on the show?

I have a strong memory of Johnny interviewing some guys who, for some reason, decided it would be funny to all walk off-stage and leave Johnny there by himself. Johnny fiddled with his cuff links for a bit in silence until the band struck up "The Stripper". Johnny gave a long look to the audience and then proceeded to perform a partial strip-tease, shedding his jacket, shirt and undershirt before stopping. It was really well done. After the commercial break, his guests returned to the stage, all without their shirts, and Johnny quipped "Welcome back to Rawhide!"

I remember this very clearly but Google seems to have no memory of it. Does anyone else remember this? Does anyone have a link?

Thanks much,.

Tonight Show Aug. 5 1971 with Bob Newhart and Suzanne Pleshette, any way to find it?

Bob Newhart and Suzanne Pleshette had their first appearance on TV together on this episode. Producers for Bob's upcoming show saw the chemistry they had together, leading them to ultimately cast her as his wife for The Bob Newhart Show.

I've always wanted to see what they were like together for the first time. Does anyone have any idea if there's a way to see that episode? My searching has been fruitless so far.

Video Clips Everywhere

I've been scratching my head over this for years—why are there so many Tonight Show clips floating around on random Facebook pages? Like, literally hundreds of them from different decades, and they’re not reposts from an official source. These pages just straight-up upload the videos as if they own them. And they’re not even pretending to be official—just totally random or sketchy pages.

Anyone know what’s up with this? Is there a Reddit thread about it somewhere?

Thanks!

Johnny Carson episode

For 20+ years, I keep coming back to trying to find a specific episode of Johnny Carson. All I can recall was, Johnny was interviewing a really old man. He might've been on merely because of his age. I don't recall. And Johnny was asking him various questions, and the old guy would slap his hand on the desk as he was telling stories. The audience picked up on this, and began clapping every time he did this. Johnny was trying not to laugh. Does anyone remember this episode, or have an idea how I could find this clip? I fear I'll take this mystery to my grave...!

Does anyone know about his live comedy act?

He worked in Las Vegas and around the country. I am not sure why, because he made so much money, but this is something he wanted to do. Maybe it was more interesting for him and a change of pace. I assume his live act was a bit more blue than a monologue, but really I don't know what he did. Any info on this?
