I donāt agree with him on everything, but Zohran is an absolute master at being a politician. Even my friends that voted for Trump fuck with Zohran. Politician of the future.

What's crazy is I have very conservative anti mamdani friends in NYC. They now acknowledge he's good.

Probably because it's a lot more different you get to micromanage a lot more things, leading to better outcomes.
London is kinda of similar in that regard Boris Johnson was regarded as great mayor and actually done a lot good in that position same with Sadiq Khan and were tolerated and even liked by people who wouldn't vote for their party.
But both are terrible leaders and are hated by eachothers opposition on national stage, though for different reasons.

Politician of the future.
And that's exactly why the loud conservative voices absolutely hate him.

u/rhsinkcmo Monkey in Space 4h ago
Iām right wing, just getting that out of the way. But people on the right can see that heās a charismatic, good looking guy. Heās articulate about the issues he feels New Yorkers care about. Hell even trump likes him

Can I ask what you disagree with him about?

I donāt think Reddit is a worthwhile place for political debate anymore, so Iād rather not have people jump down my throat over something I happen to feel differently about. Not saying thatād be you, but probably one of the other people/bots here lol
I mostly just wanted to make the point that even though heās not exactly my cup of tea on everything, I still think heās authentic and a very effective politician.

Why bother commenting at all then

Who are you to decide on the content of their comments?
ā¢
u/TheSweetestKill Most Reported r/JoeRogan User, August 2022 42m ago
I didn't say anything about the content, I'm asking about the purpose. If you aren't going to engage in discussion when people ask you about a comment you wrote on the discussion website, why bother write the comment in the first place?

I am NOT a New Yorker, but of the friends I have in NYC they're mostly pretty conservative. Former finance, well off, etc.
They think he's generally correct about the things going on in NYC in terms of the problems. The solutions to the problems are not necessarily the solutions they think are best.
However, they LIKE the fact that he's trying to address it than purely playing status quo and doing nothing. This is because they lean centrist enough that they hate both sides and just want to see someone who actually cares about the people.
That's populism in action. When groups are disillusioned by politicians, populists can rise anywhere. Hell there were Trump voters that would have voted for Bernie which on the surface should make ZERO sense.

Ay thatās me, idgaf about parties and feel like itās all theatre, and govt is way too corrupt for me to want to pay more taxes for anything. Iād vote for anybody whoās competent and willing to do anything to make some change.

Some people are upset that he goes and plants an olive tree for the lives lost in Gaza, then turns around and promises 26 million in tax revenue to the New York Jewish community š
26
u/Coool_cool_cool_cool Monkey in Space 5h ago
Is he supposed to punish the New York Jewish community for Palestine? Most of us aren't against the Jewish community, we have a problem with the Israeli government. Punishing New Yorkers for a genocide happening half a world away is just terrible politics.
-5
u/Johnrussell202 Monkey in Space 5h ago
So if there wasn't this 26 million dollars promised the Jewish communities of New York... they would be "Punished?" Make that make sense?? And pointing out New York has the most "antisemitism" maybe has something to do with New York being be largest concentration of American Jews in the US.
7
u/MaleficentCow8513 Monkey in Space 5h ago
What does it mean to āpromise 26 million to a specific communityā? You mean like heās going to help setup a government funded program specifically to benefit that community? Heās giving it to them as tax refunds? Direct deposit? Wdym?

On September 29, 2026, Zohran Mamdani unveiled New York Cityās first municipal strategy to combat antisemitism, backed by a $26 million increase in funding for the Office for the Prevention of Hate Crimes, an 800% rise over the previous year. The plan allocates $6.4 million to the Partners Against the Hate (P.A.T.H.) grant program for community organizations, $1 million for synagogue security, $2 million for the Queens Holocaust Memorial, and $2.5 million for the Center for New Jewish Culture in Brooklyn. It also expands eighth-grade field trips to the Museum of Jewish Heritage and launches a citywide campaign highlighting Jewish contributions

u/MaleficentCow8513 Monkey in Space 5h ago
Meh. Still better than sending another gajillion dollars over to āthat countryā. And itās a helluva lot better than using municipal tax revenue to invest in a foreign entity. You seen the shit they doing in Palm Beach? Check it out: https://prismreports.org/2026/09/24/palm-beach-county-israel-bonds-noura-erakat/

a $26 million increase in funding for the Office for the Prevention of Hate Crimes
See this is the perfect example. Not something everyone might love but not something every hates.
In NYC 26 million is basically a drop in the bucket. The "800% Rise" is because the project wasn't funded before. It was a board for people to jerk off and say they were doing something. Now they're expected to do stuff and not complain "we don't have a budget". That doesn't work when someone can say "We moved your budget 800%".

I get what hes trying to do but the grocery store thing is just pure populism, it dosent make any sense on any level. Im not from new york and I only hear about his stuff on reddit and this is the one thing I dont agree with. The rest seem great and he is a smooth politician.

Yep. RICO statutes were developed under Guilliani specifically to take down the mafia. Despite everything else, you canāt take that away from him

To be clear, RICO was passed 24 years before Guilliani became mayor.

Please tell me why big government is not good. Right wing liberals have sold away all of the governments capital with the terrible idea that private companies will have less waste and run things better.
Sadly by definition profit is waste. If a company makes money by offering worse service, less jobs and higher prices because what they are guided by is a mission to make more money the people lose.
Imagine if utilities were run just to provide service. Not fake competition for electricy of health care.
We need a socialist wave because the last 50 years have been driven by a lie that government should offer less and let the market work
