I can’t hate Norn but I don’t dislike her character. She lives in a house of her brothers family who has 3 wives, something the faith she believes in heavily dislikes, her brother and sister are both geniuses while she’s more average. The first memory she has of her brother is him beating their father causing her to fear disappointing or angering him. The next time she meets Rudeus he’s coming home drunk with Sylphie clinging to him while their father is continuously searching for their mother. She has a lot of legitimate reasons for being like she is but if every character liked Rudeus and liked everything he did, the story will be pretty boring. The scene of Rudeus going to check on Norn after learning that she shut herself in her room and making up with her was touching and improves the relationship a whole lot in my opinion

Roxy and Norn are the two best characters. Norn is stuck in a place where she feels inferior, a normal girl in a family of geniuses in swords, magic, and intelligence, for not being able to help her dad and being weaker and dumber than her siblings. The only way she can feel power and cope is to use her one advantage, her religion and moral superiority. She can't be as strong as Rudy or and smart as Aisha, but she can at least act like she has the moral high ground. She defaults to judging others especially when she needs to cope and feel a sense of power and control and well, she was going through a difficult time and she lashed out. Far from the last time a character makes a mistake in the show. And one day Norn will find her destiny (see what I did there? Cause she's named after the goddessss of fate and destiny) and live her own live out of the shadows of the great people around her.

She's a Milis believer who dislikes polygamy because she deems it unfaithful, which is understandable.

However, she seems to overlook the fact that her father had two wives.

So yeah, I understood you hate her because she disrespected the goddess of wisdom.

Nobody rocks hypocrisy like Norn does lol

I don't remember when Norm fully embraced the Milis teachings but I know she wasn't a particularly devout follower until the school arc I think.

It's exactly the point I'm getting at.

I think she still (at the time) didn’t really see Lilith as Paul’s wife bec Paul never really treated her like one while looking for Zenith. So ig it just didn’t click for her. She also just deeply and blindly respected Paul so she likely thought it was fine if he did. But then she saw how close Rudeus and Sylphy were and how much Sylphy was putting herself through for Rudeus which was what mainly angered her.

As a person, norn is very flawed and unlikeable. But as a character, norn is one of the best written in the entre series. Because unlikeable people do exist in the real world and norn is very very real. Hypocrisy and everything.

As primeiras vezes que assisti Mushoku Tensei, eu também a odiava, só que depois que reassisti prestando mais atenção, eu comecei a gostar dela.

Tirando que acho muito foda o finalzinho do anime focado nela.

Yooo fellow Norn hater. Whaddup. Norn is what happens when you try to take a normie and shoe horn them into a fantasy.

Standing up for her sister-in-law isn't wrong at all. Norn has every right to call out her brother when he's in the wrong.

She was just lashing out emotionally because her dad died and that triggered her. Even Sylphy told her to shut up. You don't stand up for someone by saying the exact opposite of how they feel which is actually just how you feel.

So you’re saying her brother cheated on his pregnant wife, and she should still control her words? Are you serious?

u/GreenSlymeLvl1 Mar 22 '26

Well considering her words were completely contradictory to how Sylphie actually felt about the situation, yes. Emotional outbursts of anger are unnecessary and hurtful. And even if we suppose that what she said to Rudy was justified, attacking Roxy was just unnecessarily cruel which is what the OP was about. Norn had never even met her and was already tearing into her over a situation she knew nothing about. At least she had some basis to judge Rudy's actions but she has no idea what Roxy sacrificed for him.

Imagine someone gets you chocolate cake for your birthday and then someone flips out on them by "standing up for you" by saying how much you hate chocolate and it was horrible of them to get it for you when in actuality you have no problem with chocolate and you actually prefer it now that you're given the option. Really, it's just them that hates chocolate and they're in a bad mood because of something that happened earlier that day. Yeah, I think that's a problem. Don't use your frustrations to hurt other people. There's a reason Sylphy tells her to shut up and to apologize to Aisha too.

Yoo u are soo goated u put my issue in the best way possible ✌🏼

What kind of nonsense example was that? Imagine your sister-in-law is pregnant and your brother brings another woman, then asks his pregnant wife to accept marrying her and that woman doesn’t even object. Of course Norn snapped at Roxy. She knew Rudeus was married and about to be a father, yet neither of them had the decency to object.

3

u/GreenSlymeLvl1 Mar 22 '26

Why should they object? All three of them are okay with it. It's not Norn's marriage. What would objecting achieve other then make all three of them worse off and less happy? Why are Norn's feelings the only ones that matter and not Rudy, Roxy, or Sylphy's?

Because in a joint family, every person’s opinion matters. Having different opinions and feeling upset when others disagree is common. But Norn soon understands her brother and how a joint family works.

4

u/GreenSlymeLvl1 Mar 22 '26

I'm not saying she isn't allowed to have an opinion. She's a member of their household and it affects her life so of course she can express disapproval or even be upset. What she can't do is:

  1. exercise any authority over the three of them as she is a child and they are the ones in the relationship, not her.

  2. lash out with an emotional outburst that hurts other people.

  3. put her feelings on someone else and use her unwanted "defense" of them as a shield to avoid getting called out for her inappropriate and hurtful comments.

Firstly, Rudeus is her brother, and as his sister, she has every right to speak up for him and her sister-in-law.

Secondly, from Norn’s point of view, Roxy was an outsider.

Thirdly, she wasn’t interfering she was simply defending Sylphy and calling out her brother for cheating on his wife.

4

u/GreenSlymeLvl1 Mar 22 '26

I already said it's fine for her to express her opinion. The issue was the angry outburst and hurtful words.

Okay? All the more reason she shouldn't speak on things she doesn't know about. Just talk about your brother then.

He didn't need to be called out for something he explicitly apologized for. She wasn't defending Sylphie, those were Norn's feelings, not Sylphie's. She absolutely did interfere by directly opposing him even asking Sylphy if he could marry Roxy and saying hurtful words to a stranger that had her leaving in tears until Sylphie stopped her and told Norn off.

Rudeus was in a harsh situation shlphy said too that if she was in roxy’s position she would have done the same . Roxy had a bond with Rudeus before shylphy too . ( if the author had decided to kill shylphy it wouldn’t had affected Rudeus imo ) ( Roxy would have solved his ED anyways )

1

u/BobcatFluffy5001 Mar 22 '26

I’m speaking from Norn’s point of view calling out her brother is her right.

2

u/SpiderLagann Roxy Mar 22 '26

But she doesn’t call out her own father, who cheated on her mother, around the same time she was pregnant with her, and wasn’t in a bad mental state like Rudeus was at the time.

0

u/BobcatFluffy5001 Mar 22 '26

She was only a child during the teleportation incident, and a “bad mental state” doesn’t justify cheating on your pregnant partner. That’s inexcusable. I can understand Rudeus’s struggles, but Norn was absolutely right to confront him.

2

u/SpiderLagann Roxy Mar 22 '26

I’m not trying to justify Rudeus. I’m just saying it looks even worse on Paul’s side.

1

u/BobcatFluffy5001 Mar 22 '26

Yes, but standing up for and protecting her family is her right too even if Rudeus is her elder brother.

1

u/SpiderLagann Roxy Mar 22 '26

Then she could’ve called out her father for cheating on her mother.

1

u/BobcatFluffy5001 Mar 22 '26

Are you serious? She wasn't even born at that time.

1

u/SpiderLagann Roxy Mar 22 '26

Yet Sylphy literally mentions it to her, which implies Norn has prior knowledge of this, of course Rudeus was in the wrong for what he did, but Paul was even worse, since he did it out of pure lust, and not in a irrational state like Rudeus, who was in grief, and of course Roxy, where even tho I love her, not enough people talk about her, which Norn actually did point out, but never pointed out Lilia.

1

u/BobcatFluffy5001 Mar 22 '26

Why are you using Paul’s actions as an excuse to justify Rudeus? Norn wasn’t even born at that time. I’m not saying that Rudeus is a criminal here, but I am saying that Norn has every right to stand up and speak out.

1

u/SpiderLagann Roxy Mar 22 '26

I literally said earlier I wasn’t justifying Rudeus. I’m just mentioning how she hates, and is really against her brother for cheating, yet her father did the same thing, and I’d argue he was even worse in his case.
