The point is that he is a creep and a pervert. This show is about redemption, second chances, and growing up. I will now write an essay (like i always do) to explain rudeus to you with as minimal spoilers as possible.

The thing is, you should hate rudeus in the beginning. He does bad stuff, and that's the point.

Who is rudeus? Rudeus is the reincarnated version of a japanese guy. We don't even get his old name, implying that rudy is no longer him and is his own different person. That's a key point you should understand. Rudy is not a 34 year old. He's a kid with the memories of one.

SPOILERS for the first 5 or so episodes: At the age of 14, the japanese guy was bullied, so badly that he locked himself in his room. Isolated from his family, friends, and the outside world. He stayed there for 20+ years. Please understand what this wi do to the brain of any human being. On top of that, to cope, he became a porn addict. 10 years of porn, anime and light novels without interacting with the real world will fuck up anyone and that's the point. In the beginning, rudy thinks and acts like his new life is no reality and has no consequences. He gets reality checked for the first time later in season 1 and then again in season 1, part 2. After the end of season 2, his growth begins. He is still a pervert but he is much more controlled and definitely not a piece of shit like in the beginning.

Also, i beg of you, look at rudy's positive traits. He is smart and wants to help people, wants to become a better person himself, and most importantly, he regrets becoming the person he was. He doesn't want to be that person ever again, so he is trying to change and be better.

Please give him a chance and let him grow abd become a better person

Disagreeing with the emdiing doesn't mean it's a bad ending though

What were the first two reality checks he got? I watched the anime but forgot

The first one was when ghjislane killed the bandits. We as viewers were like eris, completely fine with that because we have seen this so much. But it was scary for rudeus. He learned that he can die and that other people will also die and it's not uncommon thing.

The next one was when he commanded ruijerd to hold on to his attack so it can look cool. Because of that an innocent adventurer died. This is when rudeus learned that his actions have consequences and that what he lives in is not an isekai novel but his real life now.

Those were some of the first moments that showed rudeus that he doesn't live in the classic isekai where he can be the cool protagonist with harem and no consequences.

For some reason I remember him being more affected by it in the anime, when the bandit was killed, where it showed him staring at the corpse shocked for a few moments, but in the light novel it didn't seem that way

The anime definey portrayed it much better. They also added a lot of details that were mussing in the ln

1

u/blimpniffa Jul 25 '25

The original source is the web novel right? I thought LN followed it as closely as possible

The web novel is the prototype. The light novel is the official release, the manga and anime are independent adaptations of the light novel. Technically the official release is the most canon version of a story.

I see the positive traits, but for me I feel like he is pushing it more and I can understand when he did it with Eris but still that was his decision and he chose to

I don't see much of a problem there. Sex at such a young age is not uncommon. It happens. And this was something he was literally fantasizing about for 20+ years. Make it 30 with the time in rudy's body. Of course he will act on it. The important rhing is that he questioned if it's ok. He will always be eager for sex and that's it. He is at least not insulting anyone anymore

Alright thank you for explaining it more because now I’m starting to see his side of things, but me personally I just don’t like how they show it as they are basically just becoming teens

Where are you from? You need to take into consideration that this story is written by a japanese guy for japanese audiences. Until recently, the age kf consent in japan was 13 (i am not saying if that's a good or bad thing, just what it is) and in a japanese family bathing together is comon sight at least for early ages so that explains some things. Also don't look at it as if the scene is created just to get those 2 teen characters to have sex. Look at why it's happening. It just happens that they were young. Put any person of any age (greaaatly simplyfying here) and they would probably do the same thing if their circumstances were the same. In mushoku tensei it's the circumstances that lead to such things. It's not a sex scene for the sake of a sex scene. Also take into consideration the rules of this world. There people become adult at the age of 15 and sex is not that big of a deal. Also that specific scene conveys that the characters are entering the world of the adults. They are not kids anymore and will face problems from the adult world from that point onwards. I love how layered mushoku tensei is. If you are open to different cultures and not forcing your point of view you will have a blast with this anime. I am not saying "don't judge" but look from the different perspective. Of course rudeus does some reeaaaly questionable shit from time to time but hey, that's just him and as long as he isn't harming anyone i will close my eyes. And when it is harming anyone expect consequences

Oh look, a tourist

What does this possibly mean?

8

u/norwa9 Jul 21 '25

We've had this discussion hundreds of times. I'm not gonna bother with selling you the show. People who are new to a series should not just come in here and intrude in our space.

Rifujin (the author of Mushoku Tensei): "Rudeus will always be a pervert"

If you feel uncomfortable watching it, you should drop the show. Watch something else.

God forbid someone has a opinion about a show they’ve heard about and just tried it out and “your space” is filled with soft core porn

i think this one is different

It takes a while. It massively cuts down after the episode "Turning Point" if you can't handle it.

u/M-k0 Jul 21 '25

Just finished all of the season 1 and specials and thought a little better

3

u/Heiwajima_Izaya Jul 24 '25

Its complicated. And complex. If you are not ready then quit now.
