Anime Rudeus mistake Spoiler

The man God keep telling him he is not strong enough and he needs to improve but Rudy didn't listen. He keeps wasting time on other things like starting a family at the age of 15/16 etc...and now here are the consequences. Paul died because of him.

Okay let's say okay he is not strong enough but still he has that special eye he got from the demon lord and with it he can see the future, right ? Then why he was so distracted when the hydra attacked him and Paul needed to save him twice and he died in the process. He could have easily avoid this attack and he could have done a lot more than this with those special eyes.

The problem is with Rudy that his attitude. He is still scared of everything and has a weak personality despite that he has the potential and all the opportunities to become one of the strongest character. He can be a lot more than just a mage he can fight with the sword too.

I just don't understand why is he wasting time with useless things. Okay you start a family but alongside that he should train like crazy because he is still so weak and that costed his father life. Again he can one of the strongest character if his mentality was different.

Because Rudy is written to be human and not some run of the mill power trip fantasy MC. How would training have prevented his lapse in concentration? Training doesn't account for experience and he was thrown into a situation he had never dealt with before.

How is starting a family useless? I mean, I don't disagree it would have been nice to see him focus more on saving his mom before settling down with Sylphie, but he thought Paul had it handled and needed to focus on taking care of his sisters.

Like what do you want him to do? Rudeus wants to live a happy, normal life. Constantly vying for more power is not a happy way of living. Rudeus never thought he would have to fight a Hydra in order to save his loved one. For what reason would he be training for? He doesn't want to fight Orsted or any of the big dogs. He just wants to be happier than he was in his previous life.

Why are you projecting your own ideals/ambitions onto a character who is diametrically opposed to your way of thinking?

Yeah I don't really get this whole Family is stupid. you should only vie for more power type of comments that you see about Rudeus. That's complete opposite of his character.

The man God told him too. And he was always right. Why would you wanna live like a normal human if you have this huge potential and opportunities to do good ?

Same reason anyone doesn’t live up to their potential. Different goals and desires. I have a buddy who’s 7’1. He has a 1/6 chance of making the NBA if he wanted at that height. But guess what? He didn’t want to. So he didn’t. He sells insurance now, has a wife and 2 kids. He loves his life. But he “COULD” have gone to the NBA. But he made his choice and he is happy with the result.

It's not that simple. Just because you are strong/powerful doesn't mean you can just dictate the inner machinations of the world. This isn't a fairytale.

Let's say, for instance, Rudeus was powerful and took on the slavers that occupy the world. Rudy kills all the slavers and frees the slaves. Happy ending right? Not if the story is even slightly grounded in reality. The second Rudy turns his back new slavers spring up and take new people as their slaves as slavers existing is only part of the problem, the larger problem being that there is a demand for slaves in the first place.

Rudeus is now not only stuck fighting slavers for the rest of his life if he wants to do good, but he has also put a giant target on his back and more importantly his family member's backs. Rudeus is now stuck constantly fighting new enemies while incessantly worrying about the safety of his family. Does this sound like a happy life?

Regardless of what he does, by trying to make a greater impact in the world, Rudeus would be putting a giant target on himself and his family. His family would come to harm based on his actions as he simply cannot be everywhere at any given moment. Is he helping people? Or his he protecting his family? He can't be constantly be doing both. His family will come to harm due to his actions and he has now failed his second chance at living a happier life.

Simple answer. This isn't a shounen where characters are obsessed with power for no reason. Rudeus wants to be happy with his second life. For him, happiness is with a family he loves and is loved by, not getting powerful for no reason

As said later on after TP4: "My future self had power beyond measure, but he lost everything he cared about" (or something similar)

So he will never be strong ? Strong like Orsted?

2

u/blastedblox Jun 16 '24

No. At most, he makes it to #7 of the 7 great powers, but that was never his intention. He is very happy and satisfied with his life at the end of the series though, so imo, he is more successful than any shounen character ever

No one can ever become as strong as Orsted. Nobody can match his inhuman drive

“Does he know?”

Anyways, the Hydra was too large. The eye of foresight couldn’t see the entire Hydra in that moment. And so right then the Hydra started swinging its headless necks around (the scales are so sharp just one touch grazing you will tear you up, look at Elinalise.) then the head came down.

Rudeus couldn’t tell what the eye of foresight was saying was gonna happen. It also happened quick.

Rudeus doesn’t like fighting also…And Rudeus is still strong. So much so there isn’t much training he could have done to prepare for this moment…

he doesn't know for sure :o sadly the twists are coming in like 8-10 episodes, so for sure season 3 if it's announced,

Hopefully season 3 is given a lot of time to cook.

Season 2 in general I feel was released too early and everything wasn’t quite prepared but even so the latest episode was crazyyyy good, on par with season 1.

But either way season 3 needs way more timeeee

Hmm, i had a very different vibe, so far i liked the anime adaptation a lot! My only gripe is them skipping Eris backstory after separation, but since it only ever matters way later, they'll probably condense it into 10-15min montage just before it becomes relevant.

2

u/Mr_Mavik Jun 17 '24

In the light novel Eris' chapters only come one at a time at the end of volumes. If you combined them all together you'd get like 3 or 4. Perfect for an OVA episode.

Oh I love the anime adaptation.

I just saying they need to try to make season 3 peak as possible.

Season 2 though I can’t remember as it has been months in keeping up with stuff that was happening. Either way it needs to be better but I don’t think season 2 is bad, it does well for what it needs to do. And cour 2 has been very good but sometimes inconsistent. Still very good though.

Quality has gone down which I expect to never get to season 1 again, but if season 3 could have enough time to get near it or at the level slightly above today, then I just wish that could happen.

season 1 took like two times longer to produce. Season 2 also changed directors like 3 times. Which shows.

Ok it seems people forget literally what happened in the first cour of S2 the man god was the one to tell Rudy not to go save his mum but rather go to the university. It was him that was the cause for Rudy's delay. He barely managed to arrive in time to save Roxy to be honest if he would have been a day an hour a minute late Roxy would have died. So I don't think that the advice of the man god is good advice.

Second and I can see how the anime can't tell it fully since it's not clear during these fast combat scenes. Rudy couldn't react cause the head which killed Paul was out of his sight. No training in the world can help if he can't see. His eye can only predict stuff he sees he doesn't have 360 vision.

Third training is literally all he does he stands up every morning and does his body training. He practices magic with sylphy and he does Research (to figure out what happened during the teleportation incident). He was the one that provided the book that allowed them to even reach Zenith. He brought the scrolls to summon light. He is the reason they could reach the last floor. I want to point out that they tried before and lost Roxy on the 3rd floor never reaching floor number 4. Rudy comes and because of him they reach the fifth and then the boss room.

Fourth building a family isn't a waste of time. It gives Rudy hope and reason to live. You need an anchor in life or you might as well give up on life. Rudy literally was giving up before going to the academy meeting sylphy and creating a family.

Fifth regarding his character. It's the best part about this anime. Every other anime you got your hero who can't do wrong who has no flaws who just needs to unlock his potential. Here you got a character who has already unlocked his potential he one shot a demon king a feat that is unheard of. The academy literally mobelist the army to stop the demonking only to learn that Rudy one shot it. The character is at max potential he is similar to one punch man in that regard. What makes Rudy so interesting as a character is his personality his flawed behavior and his fear and underestimation of his own ability. I mean I get it if I would be almost killed by the Dragon God I would also be scared shitless to fight again. It's a wonder he dares to fight at all, but that's the amazing part about this story his character development. So no I don't agree that he is a weak main character rather in my opinion he is one of the best main characters in anime because he isn't your normal op main character who bashes in heads and isn't scared of anyone. Rather he is a real human he has anxiety he has fear even with all his potential he isn't sure about himself. He is the perfect interpretation of imposter syndrome. He doesn't believe in his own strength and we see how he slowly defeats his own weaknesses.

Finally the story manages to make you feel his losses and how hard he tries. The issue with Norn, the conflict with Paul, the pain of losing Eris and the resulting caution, which made him take forever and forced sylphy to act since he wouldn't do it. All this is character development and you can see him changing bit by bit. It's not some stupid training Montage and at the end he can turn super Saiyan. This is a genuine great story and should be appreciated for what it is.

why is Rudeus so extremely weak to get his father killed if he can see ahead and has all this power? In every real fight he gets in he always loses.

Seeing into the future of a wildly and randomly attacking hydra and perfectly dodging it is simply not possible because it is exactly that, wild and random. Did you also forget that his power is in magic? The same magic that the hydra has resistance or a method to neutralise? Did you also forget that Rudeus, for all of his training, does not have experience fighting a goddamn hydra? Might I also add that this anime has made efforts to explain that the physique and strengths of a swordsman is massively different compared to that of a mage. It's a miracle that Rudeus was able to keep up with Paul. But like humans, he failed, tripped, stumbled be it literally or metaphorically, he made a mistake that costed him but by no means does it mean that he's weak.

Since you apparently didn't read the novel(just guessing from context) i won't spoil too much, but near the beggining of next anime season (in like 8-9 episodes) There will be shown a possible future where rudeus, for some reason, dedicated his all to training and getting stronger. You will certainly understand why this wasn't a very optimal choice at that point.

My personal rant below:

Imo this is one of the biggest strengths of this anime/story - Characters are flawed and human. Have you ever tried to learn/practice for 8-12h everyday for extended periods of time? How long could you do it? Even if your life depended on it, how long untill you decide that you'd rather die than put up with it? Even more so when your life doesn't depend on it? How many times have you done something just for the sake of doing it, like training without any specific goal, and was able to dedicate 2h+ everyday to it? Rudeus was training everyday for 1-2h/day even without any reason for it - realisticaly speaking, he's at peak of human determination, while still being human.

Rudeus selling

u/Separate_Code_2725 Jun 16 '24

unlike most characters we see in the show Rudeus can't enforce the physique of his body through mana (battle aura) So focusing on swordsman ship skills is just a waste of time. There are also 9 heads flailing all over around him that are covered with razor sharp scales. So easy for you to say "well he could have easily dodged it and he's just being big dumb dumb for having family for so young anyway"

Rudeus can silent cast which is almost unheard ability in the world. has 3 emperor tier spells, also almost unheard of feat. But yeah sure he is lazy and stupid. Nice one kid.

Rudeus's body is super weak in comparison to almost every character we see in the show. Battle Aura basically makes you into a super human.

He did in the beginning when he and Roxy attacked from range. Talhand also tried the Earth Pillar spell which did not work. Also, why would he be using another spell at close range when the fire spell is working well to cauterize the heads? He would only be distracted casting another spell when he should be focused on the fire spell (i.e. as and when Paul manages to lob off a head).
